the 09 was awesome, the 10 was just good, the 11 was not seen
painted ladies pumpkin 09
a 5 deep hazy amber with a beauty of a light beige head. lace in sheets.
s 5 tons of pumpkin, ginger, clove, allspice--this might be the best nose i've ever experienced from a pumpkin beer. like the best of weyerbacher (without the rootbeer) and punkin (without the thin ale quality). sure hope the flavor lives up.
t 4 it does taste very good, well balanced (and perhaps the months this spent on the shelf helped in that department--i'll certainly be buying more once it comes out again to see), but i'm most blown away by the luxurious sensations of this brews texture. its a velvet fog of liquid pie. some nutmeg lingers amid the lush afterglow.
m 5 like silky pumpkin puree blended into a medium heavy ale. think i'm gonna need a cigarette (and i don't even smoke)!
d 4.5 wow, thanks tyranena. please do it just like this next time, and make sure at least a case finds its way into my cellar.

A: Pours a deep golden with a garnet hue. Nice thin layer of creamy head after a vigorous pour.
S: Not too much here--a little spice and caramel malt, but overall--pretty subdued.
T: Christmas cookie, pie crust, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove. Really nice mixture of flavours. Brown sugar emerges as it warms as well--fantastically done.
M: Medium mouthfeel, slipping down easily.
D:This is a fantastic example of what many pumpkin beers wish they could be. Well done Tyranena.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color, with about a 2 finger, off-white colored head that slowly recedes to a bubbly ring.
The aroma is that of a nice brown ale, what with the nuttiness and mild, yeasty bread aromas, mixed with your typical pumpkin spices. The key, however, being that no one spice outshines the others, and most importantly the spices don't ruin the overall beery impression. Delve a little deeper and you can even find some nice caramels and maybe even a touch of vanilla..
The flavor is quite similar to the aroma, with the bulk of flavors consisting of a well rounded, malty beer, caramels and a touch of breadiness, but the pumpkin spices are there, but they are delicately placed and absolutely do nothing but compliment the overall character of the beer, rather than overpower, as is so often the case with pumpkin beers.
This has got to be one of my favorite pumpkin beers. They are so easy to screw up, where the beer becomes little more than a vehicle to deliver "pumpkin spices," ultimately becoming overpowering and unbalanced. Tyranena hit the perfect note of balance with this beer, as far as I'm concerned.

Poured into 12oz Pilsner Glass
Appearance - Dark Orange with a tinge of crimson and brown. Hazeiness gives of an unflitered look to it.
Smell - Smells like Pumpkin Pie, but with hints of cinnamon and ginger snaps, or a Snickerdoodle Cookie. It has a very sweet aroma to it and that makes it all the more appealing. Smell is more prevalent the more it warms up.
Taste - The flavor is a combination of Cinnamon, Spice and Pumpkin with a very sweet kick. There is also hints of hops in the back. Spiciness is a bit excessive, but not overwhelming. The aftertaste is that of a sweet pumpkin flavor
Mouthfeel - Carbonation is moderate as well as the body. It's one of the more spicy beers that I've had but I felt it added more to the flavor. I get a very warm sensation from drinking this beer.
Overall - I think I may have found my new favorite seasonal fall beer. This is definitely one of the more unique beers I have had and the first pumpkin ale that I've drank. It's not a beer for everyone, but if you're into fall seasonal beers and are looking for something different, this one is worth checking out.

Appearance - Light amber. Slight haze. Medium off white head that quickly dissipates.
Smell - Sweet spicy (pumpkin pie spicy) malt. Nutmeg seems pretty prominent. Appetizing if a bit sweet-smelling for a beer.
Taste - Sweet malt backed by ample spice. Pumpkin is very apparent as is the spice mix. I'm getting mostly nutmeg and/or cloves.
Mouthfeel - Medium.
Drinkability - Better than I expected, but I wouldn't drink these all year even if I could. It's a nice special occasion beer that nicely evokes the Halloween-Thanksgiving time of year. I wouldn't expect less from one of Wisconsin's best breweries.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date, but I am assuming this is the 2012 fall release of this beer. Bought the last bottle of this as a single at my local beer store. Excited to try it, my third beer from Tyranena Brewing Co., and I have been impressed by them in the past.
Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.
A - Fairly aggressive pour yields about a half finger of fizzing bubbly khaki head, which fades away quickly. Body is a ruby chestnut brown type color.
S - Smell is comprised of warm creamy pumpkin pie. Can smell the cinnamon. Faint nutmeg & cloves. Whiff of the allspice, but faint. Even a bit of vanilla. The spices seem to be somewhat muted, maybe they have faded some, but they are still in there. Gets me in the mood for Halloween; I love pumpkin beers.
T - Wow, what a smooth beer. Very roasty malts seem to dominate here, with some subdued pumpkin & spices gathered in the background. Cinnamon comes through the most out of all the spices. Was hoping for a lot more pumpkin presence here, but this is an interesting take on the style. Malty, bready, and even sweet in the finish.
M - Feel is sticky, somewhat bitter. Creamy & smooth. Nicely bodied & with nice carbonation.
Overall, something of a pleasant surprise. I always love trying out new pumpkin beers, and they are definitely one of my favorite styles. While this is definitely not the best of the bunch that I've had, it is an interesting take on the style. Looking forward to more by Tyranena.

I enjoyed this beer from the comfort of my own living room. From the 12oz bottle with the September 14, 2009 date stamp to a standard pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a clear dark orange color with one finger of off-white head that doesn't stay for long.
Smell: Nice pumpkin smell. The nutmeg and spices dominate but in a fresh way. The spices are not overpowering and are not an "empty" smell like some of this style can be. Some honey as well.
Taste: Just as the smell suggests. Really nice flavor of nutmeg and spices. Sweet and pumpkin fruity.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and silky smooth on the tongue with a nice dry finish.
Drinkability: Very easy drink. This was definitely a winner. For those that don't like pumpkin ales, I will recommend this beer. I hope this is made again next year.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass
A - Medium-darkish amber with white head a ring finger thick and average lacing
S - Ginger, cinnamon, yeast, a little clove
T - Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and sweet malts --> caramel, black pepper, ginger --> pumpkin, yeast (Belgian?), lingering spices --> finish is spicy and slightly sweet
M - Medium-bodied, decent carbonation, slightly sticky as it warms
D - One is perfect, more would be a stretch for me. For the style, though, it's not bad.
An enjoyable beer, Painted Ladies is an annual treat, and it's best that way. Better than most pumpkin beers for sure.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Bells tulip
It pours a deep amber, dark copper with a really head that barely even forms before dying. No lacing a tall.
The aroma is pretty light on the pumpkin pie spices, pretty malty with some distinct caramel coming through. A little bit of alcohol is detected when the beer warms.
Flavor-wise, the spicing is one again pretty light and a sweet caramel malts stick out. The finish has kind of a sharp metallic thing to it which isn't pleasant. The overall flavor profile is pretty simplistic and straightforward. The body is medium/full and the carb level is a little too high for my liking.

Picked up a single 12oz of this new release brew from Famous Liquors in Lombard, IL.
A: Pours a dark orangy amber color with a half finger of just off white head that settles down to almost zero bubbles but laces as it goes down.
S: Smells to me like mainly pumpkin and oranges, as well as a pleasant balance of cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar
T: Tastes similar to the smell, except with no oranges. Mainly pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. There's a little lager beer type flavor in there with some metallic notes also, but not horribly so. It would be better had those flavors not been there though.
M: Mouthfeel on this is pretty good, with a higher amount of carbonation, but no too much. The carbonation actually helps this be smooth and close to creamy.
D: Pretty drinkable as there's no alcohol flavor, the taste is above average, but nothing here really blows me away and makes me yearn after more and more.

Purchased from Discount Liquor in Milwaukee, WI. Pours a hazy reddish orange with a thin off-white head. The aroma is spot on for a pumpkin pie. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavors of spicy malt and pumpkin pie spices that last far into the finish. Great drinkability.

I can't believe I'm just now getting to review this. I was sipping on these throughout the Fall, but the constant acquiring of new beer put this on the back burner. Time to do this proper.
Appearance: The pour is a bronze and burnt orange color with absolutely no head showing up. No lace on the side of the glass and the beer is just ever so slightly effervescent.
Smell: A bit o' pumpkin, allspice, clove and nutmeg. The malt does come out as well; smells like caramel malt.
Taste: The tasting starts out with the spices coming through right away. More allspice, clove and nutmeg. The caramel malt starts to come through in the middle and the tasting finishes with sweet spice lingering on the tongue.
Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied. Carbonation level was actually maybe a bit on the low side for the more thin body.
Drinkability: Pumpkin beers are not my favorite style, but in the Autumn they sure do hit the spot. Cool breeze, colorful leaves and the sense of excitement from the Summer starts to come to an end. Granted, I'm a handful of months late for that to be the case today, but Tyranena's raising of the glass to pumpkin beer will end up in my crate again.

A-Pours a clear, reddish amber color with moderate white head that leaves a nice ring on the surface of the beer.
S-Aroma of pumpkin bread with cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of vanilla.
T-A slightly sour flavor. Flavors of pumpkin pie spice, I taste all the cinnamon and nutmeg. Fairly strong alcohol which might be the cause of the sour flavor when combined with the pumpkin pie spice.
M-Starts fairly sweet and has a balanced finish. Very light carbonation.
Overall, a very good pumpkin spice ale. Not overpowering with the spice. A nice subtle flavor but not too subtle. Not too heavy.

I poured it a little too cold at first so it took some time for the smell and flavors to show themselves. At first it just smelled like a standard macro-brew lager but as it warmed, pumpkin and other spices were noticeable. At first I only got some spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) in the taste but as the temperature of the beer went up, the pumpkin started to come through but it wasn't overly strong.
Overall this was a nice seasonal beer that I would buy again but it isn't going to rank amongst my favorites.

Good looking dark orange boardering on brown with a creamy tan/off white head. Any kind of beer-like aroma is quickly overpowered by the cinamon, nutmeg pumpkin pie spice. I know this style is supposed to be spiced in this way, but it is a little too much. Smooth thick, creamy sweetness on the palate that instantly gets pushed out of the way by the spice. Very thick creamy mouthfeel, a lot of body in this beer. This is not bad for a one and done change of pace desert beer for the fall. Would probably go good with my Mom's pumpkin pie. Not a beer that I could conume on a regular basis.

Poured into a tulip glass. Light foam that dissipates to a ring almost instantly. Very good looking clear burnt orange color. The scent is heavy pumpkin spice and biscuit. The taste is heavy spice, sweet, malty with light pumpkin. medium mouth feel with nice carbonation. This is one of my favorite pumpkin ales. I could drink a few which is rare for pumpkin ales. Highly recommended.

I've been very disappointed in the past few years searching for a pumpkin 'fall harvesty' brew.
Pleasantly stumble on this one ontap. Since tap was gone in 1 day, bottles will suffice.
The aroma for me is like putting my schnoz over a pumpkin pie. In saying this, I really don't get alot. But I'm not really expecting much either.
Nothing overbearing here. Noticeable traits of mace. Spices although do meld well together though, with a saccharinly sweet pumpkin aftertaste (in a good way). I close my eyes and pick out notes of vanilla leading me to imagine and taste the 'bready' flaky crust.
Creamy finish coats the palate and taste does linger.
Enjoyed taking my time with this. I do not want the taste of pumpkin puree in my mouth, but I do want a pumpkin spiced brew that delivers. Tyranena has ended my search and look forward to next year!

A nice overall drinker.
The appearance is a golden amber color with minimal foam despite a good pour.
The smell has some spicy overtones but nothing too agressive.
The taste is some mild pumpkin with some slight phenolic tastes.
The mouthfeel is nice and full with a bit of remainy grainy taste.
The drinkability is overall fairly high although it drops off as the beer gets warmer.
A good pumpkin beer overall, but not in the top tier.

Pours a beautiful translucent and crystal clear, bubbly, orange amber. Carbonation is lively, almost champagne like, little to no head retention. Aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, pine, pumpkin flesh, and malt come out. A strong champagne like, grape, yeast aroma comes through as well. Strong champagne like flavors dominate as well. More cinnamon and nutmeg but pumpkin is almost absent here. The spices are subdued however, so it doesnt feel out of balance despite this. Light body, spicy in the finish, almost a very very slight tartness to it. THe champagne character that I get, I found interesting, and good. Very drinkable and mellow, definitely not a mouth full of spices, but could have used a bit more pumpkin character.

This is a decent pumpkin. It's a little heavier focused on the spice aspect, which I like but I'd rather have a pumpkin that screams, well, pumpkin. This beer is malty and spicey. I almost feel like it would be good warm, like a heavily spiced apple cider. I don't think this is a beer I could have more than a couple of in a night but I could certainly enjoy one from time to time on a fall night.

Jarrod, a local beer fanatic, brought over a bottle to share with my husband and I.
Appearance is clear yellow/red with a white head, this was in sample glasses, so I can't evaluate the head overmuch.
The scent is absolutely heady - like beery incense. Pumpkin, cinnamon, with a little after-whiff of ginger. Mmm!
The taste delivers on the scent - a lovely pumpkin/ginger/clove/cinnamon and pumpkinny taste that ends sweet and clovey. Maybe slightly too much clove for my taste, but clove oils tend to predominate for me when they're in a beer. Not 'too sweet' for a pumpkin ale. Very lovely!
Higher carbonation carries the spices through very well for me. A nicely done pumpkin/spice ale, definitely delivers through on the name.

Appearance- Nice deep amber with a couple fingers of white head.
Smell- Classic pumpkin spice with clove being the most dominant. Also pickup a good amount of sweetness.
Taste- Great pumpkin pie spices followed by a nice sweet malt and bitter finish. Themspice profile reminds me of Pumking without the pie crust flavor.
Mouthfeel- Medium body with a perfect amount of carbonation.
Overall- Really solid pumpkin beer. Not the best I've ever had but it scratches the pumpkin itch. I only bought a single but I would go back for a 6 pack.
