Poured into a tulip glass. Light foam that dissipates to a ring almost instantly. Very good looking clear burnt orange color. The scent is heavy pumpkin spice and biscuit. The taste is heavy spice, sweet, malty with light pumpkin. medium mouth feel with nice carbonation. This is one of my favorite pumpkin ales. I could drink a few which is rare for pumpkin ales. Highly recommended.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date, but I am assuming this is the 2012 fall release of this beer. Bought the last bottle of this as a single at my local beer store. Excited to try it, my third beer from Tyranena Brewing Co., and I have been impressed by them in the past.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Fairly aggressive pour yields about a half finger of fizzing bubbly khaki head, which fades away quickly. Body is a ruby chestnut brown type color.

S - Smell is comprised of warm creamy pumpkin pie. Can smell the cinnamon. Faint nutmeg & cloves. Whiff of the allspice, but faint. Even a bit of vanilla. The spices seem to be somewhat muted, maybe they have faded some, but they are still in there. Gets me in the mood for Halloween; I love pumpkin beers.

T - Wow, what a smooth beer. Very roasty malts seem to dominate here, with some subdued pumpkin & spices gathered in the background. Cinnamon comes through the most out of all the spices. Was hoping for a lot more pumpkin presence here, but this is an interesting take on the style. Malty, bready, and even sweet in the finish.

M - Feel is sticky, somewhat bitter. Creamy & smooth. Nicely bodied & with nice carbonation.

Overall, something of a pleasant surprise. I always love trying out new pumpkin beers, and they are definitely one of my favorite styles. While this is definitely not the best of the bunch that I've had, it is an interesting take on the style. Looking forward to more by Tyranena.

Pours a clearish, pale copper brown. The head is a finger thick and mostly offwhite. It's got good retention, a variety of different sized bubbles, and leaves a sticky lace. Higher points for less clarity.

Mostly malt and seasonal spices like cinnamon, all spice and cloves. Not really a pumpkin scent, more pumpkin spice than anything, but regardless, I'll take it.

Taste follows the lead of the smell. A good malt backbone for the different Autumn spices to work from.

Very creamy feel, surprising given all the spices. Unexpectedly smooth. Lots of spice, some malty sweetness. No real hop presence, but faint bitterness from the spice. No carbonation, no crispness, instead a nice sticky finish. A bit of alcohol heat deep in the swallow.

Overall this is one of my favorite pumpkin beers. Easy to drink, alcohol is moderate to taste and feel, but will sneak up on you. I like it.

Body is a dark amber shade capped with a fluffy white head that settles into a foamy mass similar to a pint of Guinness. Good retention and great overall appearance. Aroma carries bold spices: heavy on nutmeg, with cinnamon, cloves and ginger, as well as some sweet amber malt in the background.

As in aroma, the flavor is very spice dominant and the pumpkin pretty subtle. Definitely on the sweeter side, but not sickeningly so like some pumpkin beers. Malt is not very distinctive, but holds things together nicely. Mouthfeel is full and sticky, drying out toward the finish leaving lingering woody spice. Carbonation is medium to heavy, but not excessive.

The pethora of spices in this one make it more of a sipper than a swigger. I'm pretty neutral on pumpkin beers, but this is one of the few I make an effort to purchase. It seems to hit the right spices pretty hard without tasting terribly artificial.

Painted ladies pours a dark cooper with a nice head. There is a sugary water aroma; no pumpkin. The taste is very weak, has a sugar water flavor, a strange rotten taste. Couldn't finish drinking one, weak taste, and a rotten flavor made it very hard to drink, Overall this is clearly just a stay away beer, cant say much good about this one.

I've been very disappointed in the past few years searching for a pumpkin 'fall harvesty' brew.
Pleasantly stumble on this one ontap. Since tap was gone in 1 day, bottles will suffice.

The aroma for me is like putting my schnoz over a pumpkin pie. In saying this, I really don't get alot. But I'm not really expecting much either.

Nothing overbearing here. Noticeable traits of mace. Spices although do meld well together though, with a saccharinly sweet pumpkin aftertaste (in a good way). I close my eyes and pick out notes of vanilla leading me to imagine and taste the 'bready' flaky crust.

Creamy finish coats the palate and taste does linger.

Enjoyed taking my time with this. I do not want the taste of pumpkin puree in my mouth, but I do want a pumpkin spiced brew that delivers. Tyranena has ended my search and look forward to next year!

12 oz bottle poured into a Nonic.
7.5% ABV, Bottled on 14SEP12

A - A tall but quiet pour releases a plump off-white head which drops slowly while caking the nonic in sheets of lace. Fully clear, Painted Ladies is a very beautiful deep orange amber in color.

S - A delectable cream and vanilla caramel sweetness wafts out gloriously with an incredibly balanced spice background. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice all but masks the muted fresh pumpkin that lingers near the background. Lightly toasted malts hold the pie-like aroma together like a flaky crust with thick bread nuances.

T - The flavor is just as complex as the aroma if not more so, though it's more nuanced and starts with that same sweetness the aroma starts with - cream and vanilla with the toasted caramel malts adding their two bits. The spices are delicate as opposed to in-your-face and the roasted pumpkin lingers on the back of the tongue with balance.

M - Smooth and borderline creamy, Painted Ladies is a medium bodied ale that's full flavored and well balanced. The spices play quietly on the palate as the dry, earthy and soft-spoken hop finish kicks in and drops away with a light carbonation tingle.

O - Tyranena manages to craft a wonderful pumpkin ale that fits the fall bill almost perfectly, replicating a creamy pumpkin pie without overdoing the spice or pumpkin characteristics. Smooth and drinkable, this is a terrific fall treat.

Pours very thick and quite dark, for the style. The color of minced meat with a decent-sized white head.

This is a pumpkin spice ale, with the emphasis on the spice. Its smells VERY thick and clovey. The thickness is a akin to opening up a jar of pumpkin pie spice, holding it right up to your nose, and then taking a big snort. It's a nice smell, really, but the intensity is a bit much to bear and blots all the rest of the beeriness.

Tastes pretty much like it smells: a whole lot of pumpkin pie spice, not that much actual pumpkin. Big cloves, white pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg against a malt background of toffee and biscuit. Intense and not unpleasant, but not as balanced or quaffable as a top-tier pumpkin beer.

Apparently this is the year of pumpkin ales for me; let’s have another, courtesy of Tyranena.

Brewed six weeks before the date of this tasting (“Bottled on: 14SEP12”).

A: A great translucent, burnt orange color to the body reminds me of fall right away. There’s not much head at all, though, and only a small amount of wet tan bubbles for retention. Still, the body looks pretty fizzy, and even has some slick, sticky lacing wrapped around the glass.

S: Lots of spice here – cinnamon, allspice, ginger – but not without a bed of pumpkin. I’ve come to expect something like this when it’s pumpkin ale time, but this one has a definite pumpkin pie scent to it that I really enjoy. You get wafts of pumpkin, caramel, vanilla, and graham cracker from center of the nose, and the neat spice surrounds that holiday warmth. A pleasing nose.

T: Spice-forward, but malt-backed: we have a lot of cinnamon and nutmeg up first, giving it a mildly fiery kick, with a dose of piney hops as a chaser. One of the first beers where I can actually taste the pumpkin (though mild), it mixes the flavor with toffee malt and sugar cookie sweetness in a roasted manner. The spices mix in with the sweets to give it a snickerdoodle character, which embraces the slight pumpkin note with a pie crust-like compliment. Aftertaste is sort of sharp and citrusy, like the spice went a little farther than the malts.

M: You can feel the bubbles on the tongue, but without a big commotion. I’d characterize it as smoothly carbonated with a light body; drinkable, but maybe with a little too much carbonation to be sessionable.

O: I’m glad to be getting closer to the holiday with better and better beer. Of all the pumpkin ales I’ve had this year, this is one of the memorable ones. Cheers!
