12 ounce bottle into a pint glass

A - Another interesting offering from Tyranena in the long line of BGW series, let's hope it stays consistent. A steady pour delivers a hazy, golden brown body that appears to have some sediment floating around in it. Strands of carbonation race up to the head that is white, somewhat bubbly and about a finger thick before fading to a lace after a few minutes.

S - A rather unique smell with the orange peel addition, and one that I like quite a bit. As expected plenty of hops smack your nose, but it's the fruity citrus zest from the orange peel is what makes this nose stand out among other IPA's I have had.

T - Caramel malts are present in this one and that is not something I noticed in the smell of this beer. Dry hops, which I assume are Amarillo are present and play nicely with the orange peel aspect of this beer. Slight booziness is noticeable, but nothing too overbearing. The caramel malts seem to edge that pretty well, but it is there.

M - Medium bodied beer with a good amount of carbonation. Entering the mouth there is plenty of hops along with the orange citrus zest that plays well with the hops. Carbonation arrives, cleansing the palate and bringing on the caramel malts which cover the booziness of this beer somewhat. Finish is slightly bitter and dry.

D - I like the idea of integrating an orange peel into an IPA, but this beer could use some work. Most notably is the backside and finish of the beer. Maybe more cellar time would help calm the booziness down and remove some bitterness. Overall, though this is a pretty solid offering from Tyranena.

Pours a nice, dense, resiny head. Orange oil in the nose blends with a floral hop aroma. Lovely deep amber color. Starts really surprisingly bitter (aroma didn't make me expect this), with a wonderfully nice citric bitterness. A flash of malt appears after the low-high bitterness passes, with the bitter citrus rind really lingering on the finish.

Overall, this is quite nice. I like the way the citrus pairs very nicely with the hops. Definitely worth trying if you like citrusy hops.

A - Copper color, minimal cloudiness with 2 finger white head.

Smell - A floral hop smell with some citrus. Faint orange smell.

T - Reminds me of Bitter Woman with a bit of orange, less than I expected. There is more bitter than citrus which kind of surprised me. I taste the same malts that are in Bitter Woman, but overall it is more bitter than sweet.

M - Carbonated and bitter taste, some oiliness from the hop residue.

O - Solid IPA from Tyranena, but I was hoping for more citrus and orange flavors. It is a nice late Spring beer that I will enjoy.

12 oz. bottle, bottled on 05/09/2012, so this beer has been chillin in the bottle for about 7 months now.

A - Dark amber orange color, with a giant frothy white head. Tons of sediment floating around in the glass, an unquestionably unfiltered beer. Significant amounts of lacing coming down the glass.

S - Not as much hops as expected (or hoped for) in the nose, but still a citrus aroma from the hops.

T - Light hop presence, still mildly on the bitter side. However, I enjoy my IPA's ridiculously hoppy. Citrus / pine and orange flavors. Very good, but could be better.

M - Sticky, resinous mouthfeel, but still on the clean side for an IPA. Fair level of carbonation.

Overall, this was a good beer. I would like to grab a fresher bottle and see if it comes out being hoppier, but in all I am still a fan. The only other brew I have had from Tyranena Brewing so far is their Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Brown Ale, which was probably a better and more complex beer than this, but this IPA is still delicious. Overall, I am impressed with Tyranena and want to try more of their beers.

amber pour with a finger of head which quickly diminished. smells of 2 row barley, caramel, and a slight citrus hint. the flavor is fruity and citrusy up front, with floral hops and a heavy sweet malty backbone. medium body and creamy mouthfeel with moderate amount of carbonation.

a very malty english style ipa with a twist. i like it.
