Appearance -- Lucid orange color. There are several columns of very small bubbles rising to the surface of the beer. One finger of velvety, white head.

Smell -- Rich, wet, citrusy hops. Just excellent for fans of the hop.

Taste -- Very hoppy. More citrusy than piney. Sweet malt backbone, but not too overwhelming. The malt really helps to showcase the hops. Tastes like fresh Bitter Woman but better.

Mouthfeel -- Medium . . . not too thin and not too heavy. Just right. One could easily throw back several bottles and not feel full.

Drinkability -- Very high. I absolutely love BWFH and am very happy I was able to purchase a case of it! I hope Tyranena brews this beer more frequently. This one is a winner!

A 12 ounce bottle poured into my nonic Imperial pint glass. Appears a hazed golden apricot color with about an inch of fluffy, lingering off white foam. Aroma and flavor are of pineapple, grapefruit pith, tangerines, sweet malt, and lightly toasted bread. At the very least this IPA is a notch better than medium bodied and amply carbonated. Glad I had the chance to try this one.

Another Wisconsin goodie I was able to try recently. I could not believe I had never had this one, so I needed to open it quickly to redeem myself. Served chilled and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 12/12/2008.

Very nice medium amber colored pour with a decent amount of cloudiness to it. A nice head of white reached up through the haze to a height of an inch and a half which hung around for a little while before settling back down into a small thin crown.

Nice rounded hop aroma here with nothing really crazy going on. Hints of pineapple and grapefruit, touch of sweet malts lying underneath. The flavor was more of the same, very sessionable, very nicely done IPA. Rich notes of hots coming through in the first sips, very fresh and bright with the grapefruit leading the way, this mellow to a light bready flavor and a hint of grain before diving right back in and bittering out on the final sips, drying the palate for what was to come. Obviously smooth and incredibly drinkable, this was definetely one of my favorite little IPA's I have had recently.

Overall I would love to have this one again. Went perfect with pizza tonight and not too heavy. A very solid beer here.

Update: 1/12/09 - Its been brought to my attention that this was brewed about two years prior to my consuming. So my review is biased based on this beers expiration.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/xBrian/CIMG8447.jpg

Appearance:
Golden brown with a head that quickly vanished.
Little to no laceing.

Smell:
Huge hoppy aroma, wiffs of Chinook and pungent centennial
Some sweet malty aroma as well, just a faint cry from the grain.
The smeel in this one is one of its only positive's.

Drinkability:
Almost non-existant. Its bitter, but I usually like bitter. This is more of a sour, rotten cheese bitter, with chalky overtones.

Mouthfeel:
club soda. Overlly carbonated

Taste:
I loove IPA, and worship Furious. But this beer is awful. The wiff of malty sweetness I had early is non-existant in the taste. The mouthfeel is so overlly carbonated that it overlaps into the taste, along the lines of club soda meets pellett hops.
There is no balance, only overcarbonation, chalk, and hops.

I would not buy this one again. I bought it as a mix your own six pack with Tyranena's other brews, havnt tried them yet, but lets hope they are not this bad.

A: Copper-bronze, off-white head, very little retention, some lacing.

S: Pine, tangerine, toffee, grass & hints of biscuity malt.

T: Definitely more Pacific Northwest than midwest. Plenty of pine, grapefruit rind, amarillo-aspirin and a touch of tangerine. Plenty of hop flavour, with the malt to back it up (toffee & biscuity malt flavours). Assertive bitterness; alcohol is very subtle.

M: Slightly heavier than moderate body, moderate carbonation, well-attenuated with a dry finish, plenty of hop acidity.

D: It's big & bold, but it's good.

Personally, I prefer the cascade flavour in their regular bitter woman... but this is a really well-crafted brew.

A 12 oz bottle from a trade with thefatkid13.

A: The ale is a brilliant amber color, pale enough that it could be easily mistaken for orange. The ale had a large head, near two fingers, and laces nicely throughout the glass.

S: The nose is incredibly enticing, full of grapefruit and pine notes. They are thick and resiny, full of wet bitterness.

T: The IPA is nicely balanced between hops and malts. The caramel malts create a sweet character that provides a nice base on which to build the hops. Those hops are grapefruity, full of citrus notes that include some tangerine and orange rind. The flavors are vibrant without numbing the tastebuds. The finish of the ale, especially as it warms, is a strong citrus.

M: The hops are bold but not too bold, creating an even IPA that is solid from start to finish.

D: Another excellent showing from the Brewers Gone Wild! series. A good IPA that won't let you down.

Thanks Hogtownharry for this sample, bitter women from hell sounds familiar, I hope this is as good as the high Class broad though, I prefer those to the former...
Head would rise and mount, white in colour over a vlear golden body. Semi-clouded. Yum! A toasted malty aroma! Notes of citruis fruit (orange and the likes) but also hefty malt. Great smelling that's for sure! The flavour is awesome! Great texture/carbonation. A dryness that hooks the tongue in then offers up no shortage of long, lasting hops on the finish. Perfect level of roast to the malts, perfect blend to the hops. Simply great. Tyranena is fantastic. Hands down.
Bitter Women From Hell is welcome in my house. Anytime. Damn that's nice.

Thanks to Flyingbison for this one.

Pours looks like maple syrup sitting in my glass. Tiny head. Tiny lacing too.

Nose mingles caramel, grapefruit, and toffee.

Taste is big on lemon and grapefruit with plenty of malt to offset it. Theres a fruitiness to it that is unique and not common in most IPA's. It reminds me of apple juice or maybe more aptly a slightly sour cider. It's very pleasing as you notice it just before the bitterness hits you in the finish. Well done.

Mouth just a shade below medium. It seems to work well.

I'd buy this again if it wasn't too expensive. If the price were just slightly high I'd probably look elsewhere even though this is a very good brew. Finding a satisfying IPA is pretty easy these days though.

Bright orange body, hazy in the center with clear edges. There ARE chunks of yeast floating throughout the glass. Just a little head to speak of. A bit of a goofy looking brew.

Heady, confident nose; orange peel, pepper, cedar. Interesting and appealing at once: good.

Piney hop taste with slightly bitter grapefruit (like eating the pith), smooth taste for a big beer although not that eventful either.

Mild oiliness although not a huge problem for such a highly hopped beer. Drinkability is high although if I weren't splitting this the hops would likely fry my palate for the night after more than one.

12 ounce bottle received in trade with BA DavidEddie:

Murky reddish-amber. Nice head of lacey foam. Hoppy nose of apricot, mango, and pine bark. Big mouth-puckering bitterness lingers to finish. An IPA and a half with notes of Juicyfruit gum, pine resin, and grapefruit. Big, brash, and bitter. The finish could be a little drier.

I like Tyranena and look forward to quaffing the Hop Whore.

Candy-licious orange syrup, sweet lime mist, and blood orange vinaigrette, with flowery resins and light caramel over wisping alder smoke. Dense. Crystal-clear ruddied orange tan, with golden fringe. Creamy top with sweet lacing. A mildly static first impression, then into sweeping hop symphonies and tart currents of resin and pine. A pungent mist of almond-like caramel toffee rises through the ashes of a thousand hops, oozing their sappy coatings on the tongue. Lots of pale spice in lime zest, coriander husks and light white pepper. A nice blend of differing hop characters. Luscious. Hops edge a little tart and metallic, but remain perfumy in the smack. Nice lemon character. A nice, rich deep-bodied hop blast.

Poured golden brown with a slight half inch head that quickly disappeared.
Smell is piney hops. Not a whole lot going on in the nose.
Some light lacing going on around the entire glass.
Just like the Hop Whore that I drank last night, I was expecting a whole lot more beer/hops from these two. I love what Tyranena did with the Who's Your Daddy, but both of these being as old as they are the hop profile has diminished.
The taste is somewhat hoppy and astringent. Wish I had the chance to drink these fresh.
Still waiting for another batch of the Who's Your Daddy!

Ahhhh....a prelude to the ever-so-great Bitter Woman IPA.

A-Nice orange amber color that seemed to glow in the light. Head was light and airy. I bit light on lacing for an IPA but nevertheless, decent.

S-Raw, full, fresh hops upfront. Doughy malt presence is there to ensure a nicely balanced beer that is not purely hops. Citrus is obvious element.

T-A great blend of bitterness and malt here. The sharpness of the hops are great but offset by the sweet malt presence which leaves you wanting more. A candy-like taste makes this stand out compared to many other ultra-dry IPAs out there. Alcohol warmth is there enough to be known, but not omnipresent.

M-I think this is a remarkably well made IPA that does a great job of excentuating the hops but bringing in the semi-big malt body. One thing that I really enjoy about this is the finish. It has all the aspects of a great IPA but with a little softer, sweeter end.

D-I must say that by the name of this beer and the verbage on the bottle, I expected a bigger hop shock, but it turned out the be a great drinking beer that I would love to try fresh and on tap. This beer went down quickly and I could easily see myself making this an all nighter. Great IPA from a great Brewery.

She may be a bitch, but I love that Bitter Woman!

Thank you jpm30 for this tasty treat. Poured mahogoney brown with some head. Hop aroma. Its in the drink, like an ESB well malted, very drinkable smooth and satisfying. Not too American IPA bitter nor grapefruit. More herbal and spicyness, like white pepper. Had again a month laterand really noticed the large head.

Thanks to Faro for bringing this one down to me on his beer road trip...much appreciated...

Small white head on the pour which reduced to a thin layer with randomly located large bubbles. Caramel colored body, clear but with chunks from where I dumped the yeast in. Looks good overall, but the head formation and retention is lacking.

Lots of floral and citrus hops pour out of this one. This hop combination hints at tropical fruits to some extent, but doesn't go too far in this regard. I'm not a fan of overly tropical IPAs. Caramel, crystal malts form a pretty solid base to the aroma as well. Good stuff so far...

Really interesting hop profile with this. It seems like nearly everything has been tossed in there...and while it tastes good overall it seems to lack focus. It starts out floral and somewhat sweet, citrus pith follows. Finishes out with grapefruit and some herbalness. Finish is bitter, but not over the top. Fairly balanced brew with the caramel and crystal malts again.

Good mouthfeel as well, medium bodied or so. Flavors coat the mouthwell and linger for a bit. Carbonation is a bit low though.

Drinkability is right up there with the rest of my scores for this beer. Nice hoppy, bitter beer that isn't really unbalanced. Easy to put down and something I'd drink again.

A: Almost the color of a dull orangish rootbeer, the body is hazy and fairly inactive. Head was fizzy and peach tinted.

S: Orange, caramel, butterscotch and some pine.

T: Upfront a lot of caramel mixed with red fruit. Very sweet at the tip of the tongue. Moves towards some peach, apple and more caramel. Lots of fresh, raw dough flavors as well...sort of like a cinnamon roll. Bitterness comes on strong and sharp, like a knife. It doesn't necessarily linger for all that long...it comes and goes quick. Finishes sweet, slightly cloying and slightly bitter.

M: Medium body, syrupy mouthfeel. Not bad.

D: Well, wasn't expecting this. Sort of tastes like it had been aged, I wonder when it was brewed. It certainly didn't taste "fresh".

Thanks to BuckEyeNation for this brew.

Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden almost amber color, nice carbonation, tiny head, nice lacing though. The nose is of hops, malts, citrus, and slight caramel. The taste is hoppy, sweet, slightly malty, and a nice bitterness in the finish. Medium body, well rounded brew. Very drinkable, this is a pretty tasty brewery, glad to have a chance to try them out.
