1 pint .9 oz. bottle, best buy 3/12:

The beer poured a nice, clear, full yellow color that produced a nice white, foamy 2+ finger head, as expected from a Kolsch. The head was well maintained a finally settled into a thin cap that lasted throughout the beer and left some nice lacing. Also, noticeable was a constant stream of carbonation rising to the top of the glass.

The beer produced a nice aroma, bread and yeast aroma mainly. The aroma could have been a little more robust, but still a quality aroma.

The beer had a very good taste, again, like the aroma, bready and yeast notes. The beer was well balanced, clean, crisp and very enjoyable.

The beer had a light feel to it and had a nice dry finish to it. The beer was well carbonated and extremely easy to drink. Overall, this is a very good beer and the low ABV really added to the enjoyment. This is a very good example of the style and I will try to keep this one in my beer fridge more often.

1 L bottle. Pretty basic Kolsch appearance, but it's really nice nonetheless - clear straw gold with a pure white head that drops a nice sheet of lace. Mild husky grain, hops give a nice balance and add some pleasant grassiness and a hint of lemon peel. Bit of muskiness gives a rustic feel to it. A faint herbal bitterness lingers on the palate along with a slight soapiness.

An enjoyable Kolsch that hits all of the style requirements. I drank this right after a Fruh Kolsch and preferred Fruh for its more refined and brighter flavors along with the lower ABV. That said, Sunner is plenty enjoyable on a spring day and I would gladly drink it again.

Pours a clear, gold/yellow. Head is white and large, and lasts quite awhile.

Smells similar to noble hops and crystal malt. Sweet honey and mild biscuit. Delicious and bright aroma!

Taste is similar to a pilsner, but a little less bright with a more pronounced bitterness. None of the honey detected in the nose is present in the flavor, but the hops and malt are pretty close to a pilsner. I don't know, it's just like a different side of the same ingredients. That's a terrible description... but it's tasty!

Refreshing and crisp! A good summer beer, easy drinker.

All around delicious, and satisfying representation of the Kolsch style. I'd drink er again!

500 ml bottle poured into a Hinterland stange.
5.3% ABV, Best before end: 2 13 notched.

A - Vibrantly clear, this Kölsch pours a shining pale golden color with a persistent white head. The lumpy pile of foam lowers slowly, shrouding the slender glass in chunky patterns of lace.

S - Sünner Kölsch has an inviting aroma of light pale malt and delicate notes of pear and green apple from a warmer fermentation. Subtle water minerals and sulfur finish out this crisp aroma prefacing a sure-to-be-drinkable brew!

T - As delicate as the aroma suggests, this beer offers a simplistic flavor profile of dried straw and grainy pale malt with a lingering kiss of minerals and soft undertones of pear fruit esters from fermentation.

M - Crisp and refreshing indeed! This beer has the perfect level of carbonation, dancing on the tongue without a harsh bite on the finish, all while livening up the dry, light body. A kiss of noble hop bitterness crosses the palate along the back end of this beer.

O - An excellent example of the style, this light beer perfectly marries ale and lager characteristics with notes of fruit while remaining crisp, clean, and exceptionally drinkable.

Sünner Kölsch has a medium-to-thick white head, a somewhat hazy, bubbly, golden appearance, with a bit of lacing left behind and little white specs suspended throughout. The aroma is of pungent, sweet, bready, malt, and the flavor is the same, with a light hop bitterness and some biscuit aspects as well. The mouthfeel is light to medium, and Sünner Kölsch finishes crisp, clean, refreshing and dry- like a lager. Overall, this is very good and enjoyable. Check it out!

Glad to finally find this, as I've been wanting to find a newfound appreciation for kölsch beer. Poured out of a 22oz bottle into a stange glass. I believe the freshness date is 4/13, although I can't really tell with how it's formatted.

Pours a golden yellow color with several fingers worth of head at first, and lots of lively carbonation. The head eventually dies down next to nothing, even with help from the stange. However, carbonation does fight pretty boldly at the sides of the glass, almost giving champagne-like tendencies. No alcohol legs at all, but there is a little bit of lacing, and some slight thickness revealed in swirling. Bubbles actually rest at the bottom of the glass as well, which is interesting. Looks pretty solid when rated to style, but it's by no means a showy beer.

The aroma is surprisingly chock-filled with skunky phenols found often in pilsners, such as dried pears, apricots, and grapes, all covered over slight textured crisp graininess. Really nice sugar cane laden flavors, which give the fruity texture more full bodiedness. Slight booziness creeps in, although it's far more subtle. The aroma definitely lingers after each whiff, which is definitely surprising and enjoyable. Really great and pleasant!

Assuming this is a kölsch on its way to getting past its prime, as it shows aspects that may indicate deterioration, such as muted hoppiness and syrupy sweetness, this is still remains well balanced but very flavorful overall. Large white grape and apple flavors abound, combined with crisp malts and slightly faded yet still persevering zesty hops. Definitely pretty "skunked" in flavor, although the funk melds well with the dried fruit flavors and makes the mouth salivate for more. There's a slightly bitter finish, which cancels out any excessive sweetness. It's slightly watery in body, but the fruit and grain flavors make up for it.

This is a great kölsch, without a doubt. When I was in Cologne years ago I don't think I had this one, but then again, I don't think I've ever had a kölsch in this caliber! And again, this isn't an imperial IPA or saison or anything explosive, but I believe weeks after drinking extreme beers non-stop, my palate is thanking me very much for something this flavorful yet extremely easy and mellow to drink. This is definitely a beer to pair with food, but honestly, after a long day of work or a warm day, this does the trick for being as flavorful as most good quality pilsners, yet lighter in character. Looking for a top quality kölsch when rating to style? This is the one.

A finger of head on a clear, golden colored body with lots of bubbles coming up.
The aroma is a strong grain, hay and barnyard with a touch of lemon.
The taste is mild overall with a mild lemon bitterness and grain flavor.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Here's a perfect outdoor drink on a warm day to watch the world go by.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, 5/2012 date notched on the back. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a nice 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, cracker, floral, grass, bread, and light earthy hop spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity. Taste of lemon, apple, pear, cracker, white bread, floral, grass, light pepper, and light hop earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, bread, floral, grass, light pepper, and earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of bready malt and fruity esters; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Very clean tasting. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Kolsch style. Very nice balance of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable and easy drinking offering as expected.

Poured into a stange glass. Pours clear golden with a thick white head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving splotchy lacing on the side of the glass. There are plentiful tiny bubbles rising in the beer. The aroma is of slightly sweet and bready malt with some faint fruity notes that are almost cider like. The aromas are not strong, but smell pretty clean. The tastes are mild and follow the nose. There's light breadiness with some faint sweetness from the malt. There are some herbal notes from the hops and that faint fruitiness is just present. The body is light with strong carbontion. The finish is crisp and dry and there is just a slight aftertaste. This beer is very drinkable and refreshing. This is an excellent beer.
