I still have nightmares of the trivia night my girlfriend dragged me... Let me fill you in...
Ok first off my girlfriend was meeting her friend at the "BLT" for trivia night. Ok I'm no geinus by any means lol but theses questions were ridicilious!!!! Started with the waitress who didn't know what they had for beer or couldn't get me a beer list (bummer right?) So of course i asked for something easy like a sam adams. She looked at me like i had three heads. Whatever. I got a beer. The guy asking the questions was annoying as hell... He reminded of thoses dudes at the fair yelling for you with the voicebox yelling "step right up". And it went on for 2 and half hours! and my girlfriend made me stay for every second since she didnt want to leave her friend. ONLY WAY SHE GOT ME TO GO IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T STOP AND FILL MY GROWLER AT PORTSMOUTH BREWERY 5 mins away SO I HAD TO COME IF I WANTED IT FILLED.
Save yourself the time, don't journey outta downtown for this off brand off beat place. Get your ass down to the brewery... AND THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE A "BLT" on the menu! WEAK

This place tries to be a little too many things at once, but it appears to me to be a sports place during the day with the current set of games playing on its many large TVs and then late at night transitions into a lounge with the same TVs blaring mainstream music videos. It also has a small dance floor that I have not yet seen used.
You should be warned, on a weekend night, you would not be able to hear the person next to you, which can be an advantage or disadvantage. On the plus side, the waitress are young, wear tight black clothing, and try to hit that "your in a special place vibe." In a town where "trying too hard" is considered lame it is oddly refreshing to come her once in a while. I should say that the crowd on weekends can occasionally get out of hand and a fight breaks out which in Portsmouth is news worthy. You can sense that by the bouncer's vigilance and the rare local police report that stands out against the usual "cat in the tree" report.
It is in no way a beer bar, although they will pour you a frosty 32oz draft mug of Guinness or Bass and if you are very likely something like a Harpoon IPA. They are friendly and although I am 20+ years older then the average age of their clientele I have never felt uncomfortable. On another positive note, during the afternoon or on a weeknight, the comfortable chairs against the windows away from the bar can be inviting.

Located on Brewery Lane, in the old malt house for the now long gone Frank Jones Brewery is this establishment. It is much on the same lines as the "Rack" down in Boston. Very good looking waitresses wearing provocative clothing. Many flat screen TV's showing sporting events with no game sound, only music. The food is good pub grub. The beer selection is average, Guinness, Bass, Harpoon IPA on tap. 22 and 12 oz glasses that they always FROST. Yell if you have to, but request an unfrosted glass. It is worth a trip just to see the abandoned remains of the Frank Jones Brewery, once one of the largest in the world. If your lucky, you might spot the penguin's house.
