Our original brew, Yorkshire Terrier is a multi-award winning single hop premium golden ale. Using only the flavours of UK grown Challenger hops and a dash of Crystal malt, expect a refreshing taste, where fruit and hops dominate the flavour and aroma with a clean, bitter finish.

Pours a fairly clear dark amber with soapy head.

Smell is bready with some hints of brewer's yeast. Notes of knäckebröd, rye, leather and toast.

Taste is bready with notes of toast, leather, rye and citrus, knäckebröd and a little bit of yeast. Moderate bitterness, quite crisp and clean.

Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice, sessionable bitter.

Cask conditioned at the Alexandra Hotel ("The Alex"), Derby. Deep golden colour, low head. Decent standard bitter, slightly nutty flavour, acceptable hops.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2013. My local brewery's flagship ale.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep orange-amber hue with medium carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy white foam that hangs around for a minute or two before dissipating. Aroma of mild caramel malt with overbearing notes of stewed hops, a hint of ale yeast and a faint metallic twang.

Tastes of caramel malt with a bitter finish. Notes of stewed hops, fruity ale yeast and a hint of solvent in the background. A dry, decisive bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with good body. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of stewed hops.

Disappointing. I'd like to say that my local beers are the best, but this is a pretty average bitter. The aroma and flavour are bland, with no aromatic hops to be found. The bitterness is pleasing, but that's it. The only redeeming feature I can think of is that I know this to be better on cask - so seek it out at the pub.

My beer highlight of a weekend in York. Guest beer at the Punch Bowl tavern.

It looks somewhat flat when poured; however it tasted an awful lot better than it looked. Very hoppy but not overerly so.

Beer was very well kept, but this isn't surprising as York is a real enthusiasts dream.

Nice touch: Where I'd expect to see the best before date (on the top of the cap), are the words, 'WALK THE DOG'.

The brown 500ml bottle conditioned beer was poured slowly into a UK pint sleeve glass.

A terracotta orange body with a white foaming head stared back at me after the pouring. The body almost clear, just the hint of a semi-haze, that is because I poured the sediment in too.

Hops and malts hit the nose, more hops than malts.

The hops win in the taste stakes too, the beer is dry and bitter because of the hop content with all the other ingrediants being pushed into the background.

A good, well made beer, a little too hoppy for my own tastes, but not enough for a 'hophead' type I should imagine.

Courtesy of my sister's boyfriend who goes to school in Leeds, about 20 minutes from York.

A fairly aggressive pour produced a light bubbly head that seems to be sticking around for a little while. Minimal lacing down the glass. Body is a slightly hazy golden yellow. Smells of light grassy, almost tea-like hops and bready malt. The taste mostly follows suit, the malt really coming through at first, though there's a bit of a metallic note, some citrus in there, then it leaves a pleasant hoppy bitterness in the mouth. There's a little bit more carbonation than I would hope for in a bitter, though there's the slight oiliness in the mouthfeel that I really like about this style. Very drinkable, though I'm sure it would be even more enjoyable on cask at one of the York pubs. I seem to recall trying this when I was there a couple years ago and thoroughly enjoying it.

clear, golden straw and amber. loose, sudsy head, but stays around. a splotch or two of bubbly lace here and there.

grassy hop aroma, toasted toffee-ish malt, esters and diacetyl. some metallic whiffs. trace of must.

flavor of grassy hop, with mild to moderate bitterness. flinty, dry finish, with toasted malt background. touch of biscuit character. yeasty foundation in the finish too.

light, almost watery, but smooth with a touch of resinous texture for a flash near the finish. low carbonation

I drank this at the brewery and this was one of my first English craft experiences that I remember. I bought a couple of bottles back to the US and although it not my favorite beer I have a craving for it every now and then.

It had a good clarity, a great hop taste and a surprisingly clean bitter ending. Definately worth a visit.
