500ml Bottle - thanks to frenchy for this one
Appearance - Clear copper colour with a large size fizzy light beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Malts, toffee, hops, grapefruit
Taste & Mouth - There is a lower than average amount of carbonation and most of the taste is made up of toffee/caramel, hops, and malts. There is also some grapefruit flavours mixed with a bit of resin. It ends with a toffee sweet aftertaste with a good dose of hop bitterness.
Overall - I really enjoyed this one, it is probably one of the better English IPA's I've had so far. It had a lot of taste/sweetness going on, but it wasn't getting into cloying territory. I'd drink it again anytime.

A- A little darker than I expected, clear copper color with hop particles floating.
S- Smells great, very fruity, tangerine, lemon some malt but citrus overpowers.
T- pretty plain, not bad not good. Mild malt and hops combined to be ok but weird.
M- pretty decent full mouthfeel, thick but not viscious
O- not outstanding but if you see it, I think it's worth a try

Second bottle from a little Picaroon's sampler. Gotta give'm props for the name - kind of makes me want to take down Hans Gruber on top of the Nakatomi Plaza.
Poured into a nonic glass. The caramel malt has really shone through here, giving the brew a deep toffee colour. The pour brought forth about an inch of frothy white head, which survived as a thick ring with loads of sticky lace.
Nose is sweet crystal malt, citrus hops, caramel, toffee.
Very sweet brew - the caramel flavors from the malt tend to dominate the first moments of each sip, with even a bit of chocolate lingering in the background. The scene shifts to a citrussy hop/earth blast that playfully fights with the malt in a battle royale to dictate which flavor ends the show.
Carbonation is a bit sharp, and the body isn't quite right - too thin and a touch of oil.
Not bad, certainly flavorful enough, but far too sweet for my tastes. The balance just isn't there.

bottle from awesome girlfriend... again.
bottled 7-16-11, so a little more than a week old, maybe pushing two.
pours a dark ruby color that is beautiful, but MUCH darker than i expect from an IPA. It is way closer to an amber. Large bubbles that fade quickly...
nose is interesting, a TON of caramel malt which I would expect from the coloring, but I actually get a lot of citrus and apple on the nose. no surprise this is the same brewery that makes "feels good" imperial IPA, as it has the same hop presence on the nose. My expectations from canadian IPA is VERY low... but this smells nice, for the country. Not amazing for the style but much better than my past experiences.
the taste is very caramel... A lot of apple... this reminds me of the Maharajah this year... almost a rotten apple flavor to it. i think the listing as an English IPA is wrong... I think they are going for an American style here. just need to choose some different hops. I do like that they put on the label that batches will vary because they are consistently trying to dial in a recipe... thats a good brewery. But guys, you need different hops. try some simcoe, citra, centennial, columbus, etc. The apple is interesting, for sure... and you should pursue that, but pursue it differently.
mouthfeel is spot on, not complaints. but yeah, this is intersting, but it actually tastes like them testing recipes...

Poured from a 500ml bottle into my Kilkenny Pint Glass.
A- A golden-orange color. 1/2" head didn't last long but left sticky lace marks.
S- The first thing I got was honey, and a lot of it. Subtle hops, caramel and an earthiness.
T- First comes the malt side of the drink. Thick, and sticky. The bitterness of the hops is brought second with a freshness to it that is refreshing.
M- Leaves the mouth dry. Now that I am here, kind of startchy as well.
D- Picaroons has this as an English IPA, and I think I know where they were going with it. A solid beer.

A - One finger head that goes fast. Nice hazy orange colour bordering on copper.
S - Fresh hops. Juicy and fruity.
T - Really juicy and fruity hops. Really bitter finish. Not much malt to speak of though. For an English take on an IPA this is lacking balance.
M - Not too interesting in the mouth. Carbonated but lacking something.
D - Good drinkability considering its flaws. Not lot's of balance but a decent drinker.

Dated: 12/01/10
From: Premier Wine & Spirits
A: Cloudy amber body with two fingers of off white head. Head dissipated into a thin ring and leaves good lacing. Also, there is a substantial amount of yeast sediment at the bottom.
S: Huge front of citrus and oily pine. Also a good amount of malt character.
T: Citrus doesn't come out to well, but there is a ton of hop flavour with a malt backbone.
M: Medium bodied and high carbonation. Thicker texture and is quite bitter. Comes off as a strong IPA.
D: This is the first picaroons I've really enjoyed. Although I wouldn't see this as being a EIPA, it's definitely enjoyable.

Qyuite a bit darker than most IPA's...more od a brownish-orange, clooudy. Head and lacing are amazing. Outthe fridge poured 3 fingers thick and took 5 minutes to receed to a cap. Lacing is thick enough to build a small community on the side of the glass.
Aroma is, well, average. Maybe the huge head retention is playing around with the transfer of molecules to my nasal passages.
Sweet crystal malt, nice blast of hop bitterness..mostly pine. grapefruit tries to dominate the remaining time, but malts do make a nice comeback. Finish is all citrus grapefruit.
Slick. oily, medium-full..all good.
I second the heel click the dude is doing on the label.

Poured into pint glass
A-Amber in color with a nice fluffy head, great head retention, good amount of lacing
S-Roasted malts and slight amount of hops.
T-roasted malts seem to dominate the taste, but the hops are definetly there as the mild bitterness lingers.
M-Medium body, with a good amount of caronation.
D-Good local brew, worth the purchase if in the area

darker and cloudier than expected, and also much more head... tall and very creamy/dense, especially compared to what I expected. Sticks around for a bit... leaving a dense "puck" of foam sitting on top of the receding mat of head... lots of spotty lacing
surprising aroma - very bright and fruity... almost like a fruit salad, with banana coming through... reminiscent of some raspberry wheat ales
taste - much more interesting than I thought it would be... much more than a plain ipa... bitter (maybe a bit too much), and yet sweet & fruity, a bit of a roasted / caramel background
mouthfeel - feels pretty fine... bitterness takes away a bit from the overall
drinkability - very drinkable...

Pours a dark, hazy amber color with tons of sticky, foamy head. Head eventually settles down to half a fingers worth, with sporadic sticky lacing left on the glass.
Despite claims of intense hop aroma, I barely detect any. I do get a smooth malt character in the nose though.
The taste, however, does live up to the intense hop bitterness claim. Among the bitterness, however, was a tad note of sourness. While this may in part be due to some other citrus like flavors, it tasted to me like listening to a song where you hear an obvious bum note in the middle of an otherwise good playing. The finish is an earthy malt flavor that lingers a while.
Overall, there are some interesting things going on in this beer. However, the hints of sourness kinda throw things off. Part way through I lost interest and wanted to switch to something else. Picaroons DOES explicitly say that they deliberately change things from batch to batch to explore the style, so I wouldn't be opposed to picking up another bottle in the future, I'll just have to be a bit careful when I do.

I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. The color is an attractive amber with a light ivory head. The smell is of hops, pine, and fir. The taste is complex. Up front some caramel, and maybe currants or toast. It's quite interesting. And the finish is hoppy and pleasantly bitter. This is quite a hoppy IPA but not overpoweringly so. The mouthfeel is good, and this is quite drinkable. All in all, a surprisingly complex and very tasty IPA.

Thanks to Moniker for this one.
The appearance is quite stunning... Cloudy copper color. This is definitely not filtered. The head is creamy and so good looking. Sticks well to the glass too. The smell gives citrus notes, a little sugar. On the taste, it is mainly hoppy... citrus hops. The bitterness is not present except on the aftertaste. I get some grapefruit in the taste and smell. The beer is not dry... but smooth. The taste lingers in the mouth for a long time. The carbonation makes its presence in the mouth.

This is certainly a pretty beer, and probably the most impressive head ever witnessed in viggo's apartment (not that there's any competition there). The head just keeps going, and soon erupts white foam all over the table, marking perhaps the first time a non-infected beer has ever come into contact with a Wind & Sail coaster. After a quick cleanup job I'm left with a glass that's half a hazy amber liquid and a full fist of foam. The carbonation is evident, and manages to sustain the head, which only gradually dies from the edges, leaving a stiff column proudly standing in the middle. Sticky lace lays complex white webs on the side of the glass. Without a doubt, this beer is a stunner, but its appearance may well be indicative of a fatal flaw that could destroy it.
What the devil is going on with this carbonation. Its ridiculously high, and the beer seems to explode in the mouth, which would be fine in a soda, but not in an IPA. The only saving grace is that the bubbles err towards soft instead of prickly. Really distracting and it doesn't work with the light body at all. Its too bad, because there's some good stuff going on here. The aroma is rich, full of tropical fruit (I'm thinking mango and lychee), and there's some nice caramel and biscuit in there. The dominant theme, though is the fruitiness, and the more I sniff the more fruit I'm picking up (add pear to the list). Likewise, the flavour is bursting with fruit, as peaches join the melee. What is missing, however, is the bitterness you crave in an IPA, and on a bitterness scale of 1 - 10 this comes in at 4. Honey and pear mix with graham crackers to round things off.
Ah, its really too bad about the carbonation. If they sorted the body out and doubled the IBUs we'd have a winner on our hands. Instead, all we have is an empty, foam-encrusted glass.
Thanks to BBrianBoogie for sending this as part of CanCon BIF - cheers Brian!
