Gusher!! Upon popping the cap, a large plug of foam begins to eject. Not quite an explosion, but a little messy.
Poured into a goblet where the foam quickly disappears; what a short life it lived...Glowing gold in color, the carbonation is hidden behind a veil of haze.
First whiff reveals leather, orange and a brett-ish mustiness.
Spicy and nicey! Good white pepper quality; a little tart in the finish. Yeasty earthiness work well with the spicy E. Kent Goldings. Wildflower honey in the finish.
This is a very quaffable beer. Complex enough to satisfy the Belgian lover, but tame enough to serve as an entry into the Belgian world of beer. I would prefer a bit more spice in the flavor. The only repellent from future purchases would be the price for 500mls....$8.50!
Music enjoyed whilst sampling: Where the streets have no name by U2 (just listening to the radio...)

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter glass.
A: Pours nice light golden color with fluffy two finger white head leaving some moderate lacing.
S: Earthy yeast and funk mixed with lemon, orange, and some spices.
T: Citrus flavors mixed with grassy undertones. Some yeast and malts while crisp and refreshing.
M: Light and dry with mild carbonation. Easy drinking brew.
O: Nice Saison. Not my absolute favorite of the group, but a solid choice none the less.

NØGNE Ø SAISON is a quality saison that has a very rich almost trippel like flavor. I love the yeasty malty flavors. Classic in style with the fruitiness and spices, but a richer, sweeter. The appearance is good too despite a piss poor head. Light colored but with that messy yeasty look I love to see. Means goood beer! The aroma was OK too. The only downside for me really was the damn texture. Pretty darn fizzy for this tough guy.
But OH do we have some righteous music from the northern Europe jazz label ECM Keith Jarret and his Europen 4tet on the cd entitled "My Song."

A: The beer is hazy light golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high and a half high bright white head that slowly died down, consistently leaving a thin head covering the surface, a large pillow of bubbles in the center of the glass, and lots of lacing down the sides.
S: There are moderate aromas of earthy yeast in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the overall taste is dominated by flavors of yeast and has some hints of grainy malts towards the finish. The earthiness lingers through the aftertaste.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't quite as complex as other beers in the style, but is quite easy to drink and seems like it would make a good accompaniment with food.

On tap at George and Dragon in Barcelona.
Pours somewhat transparent dark golden color with a thick white topping that weaves cobwebs of lace down the glass.
Smells funky and citrusy and lemony.A unique funky smell I haven't run across. Guess they have something special going on up there in Norway.Gets a little woody.
Crisp and highly bubbly. Bathes the palette in funky goodness that lingers well into the aftertaste. Hints of orange hit in the beginning before being brought under the funk tide.
Highly enjoyable Saison by these viking brewers.

Picked this up at my favorite beer store in Belgium, Dranken Geers. Cloudy straw colored pour with a fluffy two finger head with great retention and lacing. Interesting nose with hints of Belgian yeast, straw, lemon, white pepper, and a touch of clove and banana. The taste is earthy and herbal with hints of grass, yeast, lemon, pears, along with a touch of barnyard and rye. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean with moderate carbonation and a slightly sour bone dry finish. I'm definitely not a huge fan of the style, but this is a solid standout.

This was my first beer from this brewery, and I was pretty impressed. It seems they brew just about every style of beer, and with this one - they nailed the saison right on the head. It was flavorful, crisp, slightly sour, bready, and spicy. I could definitely have this beer again and again, if it weren't so pricey.

Fizzy off-white head that slowly diminishes. A thin sheet of nearly unbroken lace is left in its wake. Color is a murky yellow orange. Smells of lemon, grapefruit, rind and herbs. Has a finishing floral essence that consummates the piquant nose. Tastes sweet and grainy with a plentiful funk, herbal hops, a splash of citrus, taffy and and grass. Medium bodied and crisp; might I say refreshing? I'm thoroughly enjoying the complex palate on this easy drinking brew.

A - Pours a dark golden color with a slight haze. small creamy white head. Minor lacing left behind.
S - Sweet malt, yeasty fruit esters, pears, apples, and lemon, grassy, mild clove, herbal skunk-like aroma. Dried bananas and doughy bread come out as it warms.
T - Sweet and fruity upfront with apple sauce, pears, lemons and oranges but a chalky dryness flows over the palate quickly bringing down the sweetness. Grassy hops start mid palate along with damp hay creating a musky semi-dry finish. A citrus tartness is left behind on the aftertaste.
M - Fuller body for the style, moderate and tight carbonation.
A nice touch on the style, but very close to a Belgian Strong Pale Ale. The citrus zest helps pick up from the sweet malt. Heavier body but still a tight foamy feel creating the sense of lightness. Letting it warm really brigs out a raw doughy character in the aroma. I really enjoyed this.
