A: The beer is rather dark amber in color (close to opaque, unique for a barleywine) and poured into a snifter glass with a creamy white head that's one finger thick.
S: There is an intense, complex aroma with notes of citrusy and piney hops, dark fruits, caramel and chocolate malts, herbs and spices.
T: The overall flavor is very well balanced between malty sweetness and hop bitterness. It's also very complex with notes of notes of caramel, cherries, chocolate, coffee, molasses, raisins and spices.
M: It feels full-bodied and creamy on the palate with lots of carbonation. There is also some alcohol warming.
D: The beer definitely needs to be sipped given the alcohol content. I've never had a barleywine quite as unique as this so I would definitely try it again.

Nogne got this one right!!!! An outstanding American Barleywine. Pours a dark mahogany brown with some light getting through on the outside of the glass. Requires a hard pour to get a small to medium size head. Good sticky lacing.
Strong aroma of caramel malts and a little chocolate. Taste is exceptional. A lice smooth caramel malty backbone, with some elements of chocolate. This is balanced but not overwhelmed by a good infusion of C3 hops. Very tasty.
Mouthfeel is rich and smooth with a good hops and alcohol bite at the finish. The alcohol is more warming than harsh. A very satisfying slow sipper.
This is an outstanding beer. A bit pricy at $8.99 for a 16 ouncer but still a very satisfying beer.

500ml bottle. Having had the #500 not that long ago, it is weird now seeing the #100 following it up. Until I read the helpful label, that is.
This beer pours a hazy, dark orange-tinted dishwater brown (barleywine bulls-eye, that is) colour, with three fingers of puffy, dense, and caked beige head, which leaves a decent horror show of splattered paint lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly abates.
It smells of bitter citrus rind, a touch of pine resin, a big bready caramel/toffee malt, musty dark fruit, earthy anise, further leafy, weedy hops, and a wee booze astringency. The taste is more hefty biscuity, bready caramel malt, orange cream and grapefruit pith, sassy black fruit - prunes, plums and dried cherries, a soft dank mustiness, a touch of dry chocolate, and a well-tempered spiced rum heat.
The bubbles are quite low-key, and mostly just busy with keeping up their structural responsibilities, the body a decently restrained medium-heavy weight, and generally smooth, with a whiff of syrupy creaminess. It finishes off-dry, the subtle caramelized sugar backbone not ceding any turf, as the hops lose a bit of their bite, and the booze keeps a way too even keel.
A rather pleasant barleywine, the fruit, toffee, and old attic mustiness doing more for this than any particular hop schedule - not that the latter's efforts aren't appreciated. I could do with seeing this a tad earlier in the hops' lives, but can hardly see why aging this would be worthwhile - it's so well rounded right now.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 9/4/13
A dark brownish amber with enough clarity to see a 1/3 of the distance to the other side under the foam, looks thick with some bubbles struggling to stream up the side of the glass. Some random chunks floating around and a very long lasting light brown head leaves plenty of random unorganized lace deep down the glass
S piney citrus rind and a heavy blast of caramel, herbal hops and faint coco powder mix with some faint booze and dark bread
T a slight nutty aspect seems out of place but works, more malty sweetness mixing up with some piney rind, old DIPA or a young BW you tell me,some faint milk chocolate s it wrms
M thick and syrupy with low carbonation but enough for it to work, sticky on the lips with a bitter kick, rind, burnt brown sugar and pine resin lingers long on the finish
O some dark malt notes add a strange mix to this brew, to me it seems lost between styles or perhaps I caught it at an awkward age, either way I like it a lot but would rather have it super fresh or in a couple years
pretty solid brew with a well hidden 10% waiting to kick your ass, still pretty hoppy for a BW and the malt has some dark notes that I don't think works against it but leaves something unique in your glass. Not only am I going to grab one for long term aging I'm going to look for a fresh batch out of hopped up curiosity

Bottle into a snifter. Had it in December 2012.
A - Pours an amber/mahogany color with an small, off-white head with low retention. Leaves a thin topping on the beer.
S - Loads of aromatic hops (floral and herbal). Caramel, toffee, blackberries.
T/M - Aromatic hops dominate up front with a good malt backbone. Caramel, plums, raisins, a hint of diacetyl in the the second third of the palate. Ends with a medium bitterness, some spicy and caramelized notes that linger. Body on the high side. Extremely smooth. Alcohol is well hidden.
O - Amazing beer! Top notch interpretation of the style. Well balanced, and dangerously drinkable. Highly recommended!

A: Mahogany brown.. turbid. Head dissipates to thin ring of foam.
S: Cherries, licorice, alcohol, sweetness. Nice.
T: Sweet fruit, big malt character and a finishing of balancing hops. Its good!
M: Smooth and full bodied.
O: A dark, fruity, sweet American Barleywine. Its very enjoyable and they have done a good job hiding much of the alcohol.
