A- pours a dark amber color with a finger of off white head. Ok retention. Some lacing.
S- big robust hoppy aromas with big pine, orange citrus and a woody notes. Soft nutty malt aromas with the wheat coming out as well. Finishes all floral and leafy hop aromas.
T- great balance between malt and hops. Cracker pale malt and wheat flavors hit the palate at first. Floral leafy hop flavor hits with a round hop bitterness. Finishes very dry with notes of pine and yellow grapefruit. The wheat and leafy hops linger on the palate on the aftertaste.
MF- slick full mouthfeel with average carbonation and a medium body.
D- very drinkable.
Overall a very solid APA

Didn't mean to order this (it's a mobhouse at Max's today), but seeing as how I did...
The beer pours a honey amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is all prototypical pale ale (albeit a good one), showing apple , light cherry, celery and light tobacco. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this well balanced, nice preportioned pale ale. There is at most some moderate malty sweetness, which balanced perfectly by the hoppy bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly soft, with a fairly long, lightly bitter finish. Drinkabilty is quite good, with the alcohol barely an after thought.
A good, solid pale ale from Nogne, that I would mind ordering from time to time.

Picked this up at my favorite beer store in Belgium, Dranken Geers. Clear yellow-orange pour with a huge fluffy white three finger head with great retention and unbelievable sticky lacing. The nose is initially quite grassy with a touch of lemon, but opens up to some nice subtle citrus and pine notes along with some biscuity caramel malt. The taste is a bit bolder than the nose with lots of tangy citrus up front, eventually giving way to toasty caramel malt. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with a subtle tangy, bitter finish. A classic interpretation of a Pale Ale.

I got a single bottle of this from Binny's in Plainfield, IL. Pours what I would call a port-a-potty brown color with a long lasting off white head. The scent is extremely malty mixed with other grains; I did not find the scent appealing at all. Taste was malty with a hoppy finish with some citrus mixed in. Thankfully the taste was a lot better than the look or smell. Normally my ratings are right on with the beer advocate average, but this time I would rate this beer far below. At least it was good getting to try a beer from Norway.

So Nøgne Ø makes a plain old pale ale. Who knew? No, you didn't. That's a lie, that was totally a scoop by me.
Pours a vibrant amber, slight russet tinge, with overly generous head that I've forgive for its exuberance because it looks great. Beige, pale, foamy and dense with uneven sinking, slow and clingy all the way down. A cradle of beauty; looks excellent.
Smell is rich and hoppy, almost IPA in stature. Toffee malt front with large resiny hop oil aroma and a hint of lemon zest and pineapple to take the edge off. Slight spicy bitterness at the back. A bit big and hoppy for a pale, but still pleasant.
Taste is far toastier than expected, and I'd certainly sense it's showing its 7 months of age, but the bottle claims quality through 2014 - and who am I to argue with advertising copy? Has a slightly overcooked toffee malt flavour giving way to spicy and resiny hop oils, bitter with a slight bubblegum sweetness on the late-mid. Finishes English, sort of a smooth, flat bitterness without a lot of the piquant arrogance of the American hops I know are in here. Quite palatable in spite of it losing some of its sheen.
Body is OK for a pale, it foams up a bit but leaves a bit empty. I'd like more dryness or more pop in the mouth itself.
Decent pale ale that I do think is definitely past its peak. I dread to think if a newbie genuinely thinks it's worth cellaring this for 3 years. I mean, at 6% it won't be undrinkable but it will have dwindled to bland cardboardy malt by then. If you are storing a bottle, make sure the conditions are ice-cold, dark and preferably air-tight.

Pours nicely slightly opaque orangey brown in colour with a good frothy head.
Aromas are hoppy with a hint of orange zest and lifted spice??
Smooth and lighter than expected on the palate with good clean flavours of hoppy orange zest and slight malty carmel edge.
Not the crispest of Pale ales but refreshing enough to make me think i might like on a sunny day.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. There are some floaties in this beer. Smell is dominated by hops. Taste is different, hops are present, a somewhat medicinal flavor, a touch of citrus. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Colour evokes lemon and orange. Decent head and lacing. Substantial sediment.
Lots of lemon in the aroma and some initial skunk. Occasionally some yeast but not much malt to speak of.
Taste has more lemon flavours and a decent amount of bitterness.
Mouthfeel is thick with moderate-high carbonation.
Overall a competent pale ale but a bit neither here nor there for me. Easy drinking, hides the ABV (6%) but perhaps a bit too textbook for my liking. Mikkeller's pale ales at the recent event generally had far more complex hop profiles.

a - slightly clouder, dark golden, thick, slightly fluffy head that sticks around
s - vaugely doughy, slightly sweet smell
t - yum! nice biscuity malty base, cut through with a surprisingly sharp set of hoppy citrusy delicious
m - nicely carbonated, moderately thick but easy to drink
Really good beer, doesn't taste overly alcoholic but the 6% isn't a surprise either. One of the best in the style I've had. Lovely stuff.

Goldenrod with lumpy snow white head that sheets. Straight Centennial orange nose with some proofing bread dough underneath. Whole wheat toast and peanut with juicy Sunkist citrus hops. Bitter pith finish and dry linger. Wood oil hops come out as it warms. Sediment at the end. Light, crisp, some stick.
Not hugely complex, but darn tasty and very quaffable. Gets full value out of the 40 IBUs. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Don't know if it's worth import prices, though.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle...
Appearance: Deep hazy orange rising into a reddish orange with a 2 finger fluff head that dissipates leaving blotchy lacing.
Smell: Nose is a tricky one with hop notes peaking through a citrus fruit aura.
Taste: Comes through rather plainly with the malt making a forefront appearance and the hops subtly attempting to push through but weakly so. Finishes with a bitter tastelessness.
Mouthfeel: An almost watered down medium body with plenty of carbonation. Really weird.
Overall: This beer is nothing like any pale ale I have tried before. With it's look of an almost double imperial IPA to it's oddly rich malt off-taste.. I will say I wont be having this one again.

A: Hazy light honey color with a thick 3 finger cloud-like head.
S: Sadly, I don't get much on the nose with this one. A slight hop character but it is very feint.
T: Citrusy hop character and a nice malt base give this beer a nice flavor. The finish is all citrus.
M: Medium bodied and lots of carbonation, this has a nice mouthfeel.
D: Quite drinkable despite 6% ABV

Cloudy caramel-amber, with a huge white head of foam. Heavy, but uneven lace.
Nose is fruity hops. Appealing enough.
Taste impression shows sour grapefruit. Definitely a citrus hops profile, with some pine accents. This is a bitter and chewy brew -- tasty, but not as balanced as I'd like.
As it stands, a solid, but not wholly a standout, pale ale.

Batch number 563; best before 17.11.13; brewed 17.11.10. Into an imperial pint glass. Pours a golden yellow with a vigorous thick, white head about 3-4 fingers in depth. The beer is fairly clear with quite a bit of visible carbonation. Very nice lacing on the glass. Once I emptied the rest of the bottle into the glass, some sediment was added to the brew and clouded things up a bit.
The nose provides a citrus hop smell with some lemon and a bit of pine thrown in for good measure. Maybe a hint of spice or pepper.
The taste reveals a crisp, nicely hopped ale. The citrus and bitterness from the hops is really the defining characteristic of the taste and provides a nice backbone to this offering. Some pepper-spice qualities as well and finishes with a hint of lemon.
Mouthfeel is very vibrant and lively, making this a nice pairing with a variety of foods.
Overall I am favorably disposed toward this pale ale. Very refreshing and provided a healthy dose of hops for a nice bitterness with a citrus twang.

I picked this up yesterday at Monument Wines and Spirits.
Appearance- amber color, nice size head, nice lacing
Smell- sweet malt, some hops, spices
Taste- sweet malt, little bit of hops, spices
Mouthfeel- medium bodied
Drinkability- I thought this was a very interesting pale ale. It's very different from normal pale ales but still pretty good. I would love to have it again.

16.9 oz bottle served in a Sam Smith's Imperial pint glass.
Pours a cloudy brown with several fingers of thick, durable tan head. Honestly, it looks a bit foreboding.
S - very inviting herbal hop/malt blend with some other unidentified aromas, probably some yeast.
T - very malty, rich and complex for style. Hop and bitterness level (IBU = 40) are about as expected, or even higher, but there's also a separate malty sweetness and even a bit of fruitiness. Wonderful mix of flavors!
M - rather smooth with a medium-full body.
O - doesn't look, smell or taste like a typical pale ale, but I can't hold that against a beer this exceptional. So not really an APA, but if it were, it would be one of my favorite APAs. Unique and highly recommended!

T: nice earthy front with firm malt, mild spices in the finish with hint of bitter
M: medium body, smooth, good carbonation.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a rust color and a cloudy consistency. There was a big, fluffy, creamy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.
S: A subtle aroma of malt, citrus, and hops.
T: Tasted of citrus, caramel malt, hops, and a slight graininess. Surprisingly, the malt component dominated the flavor much more than you see in other APAs. Still, a well-rounded flavor.
M: A well carbonated beer with a dry finish. Light- to medium-bodied.
D: This is a well made, easy to enjoy, drinkable beer.

T: Munich malt flavor up front with a nice light floral hoppiness. Very simple in its flavor, but very drinkable.

I picked up this beer at the Binny's in Lakeview. I was curious about a Pale Ale from Norway made with the American style in mind.
Served in a goblet.
Appearance: Very cloudy, brown with a hint of red. Decently retained creamy white head. Minimal lacing.
Smell: The most dominant smell here reminds me of a dessert bread - either banana bread or blueberry muffins. In general bready, with sugar and fruit.
Taste: Again with blueberry, and a fair amount of unfermented, sugary, creamy malt. Spicy hops and a finish of piney hops.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, even carbonation. Medium, slight syrupy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: This is a great pale ale, I'd pick this up again and recommend it to others to give it a try!

Nice, smooth APA (or maybe an Export Pale Ale?) with a bit of a hop kick to it.
Lightly clouded orange with a nice white head and a creamy malt smell. Hints of sugar, very low hops and the alcohol is almost non-existant.
Where the hops are subtle in scent they really dominate the flavour. Still very malty, but there is a definite citrus-y flavour.
The alcohol presence is very low, and even with a more-IPA like character this is a decent session beer.

Pours amber with a magnificent thick head white head that clings to the glass.
Nose shows loads of light fruit (pear, apples, white grapes) along with lots of floral, spicy and grassy notes. Very light and refreshing. Underneath is some doughy yeast and spicy phenols along with a little bready malt.
Similar flavours, first showing more floral, fruity and grassy hops followed by soft sweet clean malt and finishing with a somewhat sharp bitterness.
Carbonation could be a little higher.
That sharp bitterness is a little over the top but otherwise good.
