341ml bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance - the beer pours a cloudy pale straw colour with a small white head. I can't make out much carbonation due to the cloudiness of the beer. There is a tiny amount of carbonation, and the head was gone very quickly.

Smell - The beer smells of lemon juice and wheat. Also a spice mix and apple juice. Perhaps even hints of tropical fruit juice like pineapple.

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a perfect amount of carbonation; it has a great mouth feel. It has a sour lemony taste at first which gives way to a fruity body. It ends slightly bitter yet refreshing.

Drink - Once again, I'm not a huge fan of this style of beer, but this one seems average..

This beer was bought at Lavigne in a six pack of mixed beer (341 ml brown bottle).

The appearance is very classic for the style, cloudy pale golden. This beer has a thin head. The nose shows some citrus aroma, and some tartness is also perceptible. This beer is very refreshing. It has a good citrus, coriander taste.

Overall it's a good exemple of the style and one of the best product from this brewer when fresh.

What were Belgian brewers thinking when they came out with this style? Don't know, but this style is excellet for my Northeastern Mexican 110°F (43°C) Summer afternoons.

It's sooo refreshing. :-)

Pours a hazy yellow, big fluffy white head and some lacing.

Smell at first was vinous, which is weird since this one has only 4.1% ABV. Anyway, it quickly dissapears and gives pass to some nice yeasty maltiness.

Taste is so refreshing, with a good fizzy tangy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is fruity, lemony, light grassy. Interesting.

Drinkability is high, of course, especially in my Summers. If careful, you can chug down quite a few of these. ;-)

¡Salud!

Another of my mix of six trial pack from the Schoune Brewery. So far it's one really good beer, Reb Ale, and one mundane, Le Place. This one ups the ante and is a very good Wit beer. It is a lemon yellow with a carbonated white head. It's a keeper. lot's of complexity to this yeasty Quebec delight. very refreshing with lot's of fizzy carbonation.Too bad the label looks so amateurish but that's beside the point really.

A - Pours a hazy straw colour with an orange tint. Big fluffy white head... but it quickly recedes a ring. No lacing.

S - Very wheaty, with a slight sour note. Not a lot of orange, more of a clove and spice.

T - More orange shows up in the flavour. Very nice wheat flavours with a bit of spice.

M - Very spritzy, with lots of carbonation.

D - This has a very fresh taste, which is important to me with a witbier. Very quaffable.

I'm giving this one very high ratings. I'm not a huge fan of witbiers in general, as I find them to be too subdued, but this one has a lot going for it - a great wheat character, and just the right amount of sourness. I'd take this over Hoegaarden or Blanche de Chambly.

Thanks for the bottle Jpagewatts!

341ml bottle poured into tumblers.

Quebec City visit continues...

Pale lemon yellow color, no head retention or lacing, a little cloudy. Aroma has almost a sauerkrautiness to it, and lemon, and that witbier aroma. The kraut factor is odd at first but is growing on me and I am starting to like its uniqueness.

Mouthfeel is fizzy carbonation a la soda. Crisp, some tartness, light and refreshing. There is yeast in the bottle--that gives this a "real" character even if it is on the funky low-rent side of real...nevertheless, a thirstquencher that I would happily choose over a macrolager. Certainly not the best witbier in the land, though. But I love a province with such a variety of real beers that something like this is made.

Bottle :

Poured with a pale straw color with a light haze ( a more substantial yeast/wheat protien haze would be welcome)...instantly disapearing cap, weak lacing of the glass...negative points there.

Nose is remotely "wit-like" with some sweetness, buiscuity malt tones and light spice and citus...very light.

Light body, puckering dry mouthfeel, dry citrus spritzy character.

Peppery mouth up front from the carbonation..this dies back revealing a sour-citrus decernment..mid palate some light musty sweetness..the finish reveals the spicing and the clean wheaty-dryness...but no light biscuity snap in the aftertaste which is indicative of a good wit.

Overall a good stab at the style, refeshing and quenching enough but a tad sour for me and lacking the dry wheat biscuit after taste I crave in this style.

A- Fizzy white head. A lot of effervescence. Pale lemon yellow colour. Slightly cloudy. Not a bad example of the style.

S- Good witbier smell of lemon and yeast. Some dusty carbonation smell detracts from whole.

T- Lemon very prominent (too much really). Somewhat too watery. Yeast not prevalent enough.

MF- Light and refreshing. Definitely summer fare. Too watery/fizzy, like a carbonated week lemonade.

D- Summer session beer. Would be quite nice on a hot day after some sweaty work.

Appearance: Cloudy pale golden, with a thin, broken white head, and slight lacing.

Aroma: Intensely sweet tropical fruit, pineapple, and juicy fruit gum, and a hint of earthiness.

Taste: Opens slightly sweet and tart, with hints of tropical fruit, juicy fruit gum, and some orange peel. The finish is brutally dry.

Mouth feel: Very thin, crisp, with sharp carbonation, champagne-like.

Drinkability/notes: A bot of a departure from the style, but interesting, nonetheless. Would be an interesting summer beer in the warm climes of Texas.

Thanks to my friend and fellow BA HardTarget for sharing this rare example.

Bottle Inspection: Plain, yet stylish label shows 4.1% abv.

Aroma: Citric notes, mainly pineapple, with some mild bubblegum

Appearance: Light haze in a pale gold glass that sports a thin collar and cover. Mild lace

Flavor: Milder than the nose, the flavor is almost a let down. More floral notes here, chamomile and lavender if I had to guess, and a nice juicy fruit note.

Mouthfeel: Light body, dry finish, heavy carbonation

Overall Impression: The heavy carbonation hurts the drinkability in my view, but otherwise this is a nice refreshing beer.

Ferme Brasserie Schoune is an interesting beast in the Québec microbrewery landscape. They've been around for several years and have issued some interesting beers (Scotch Réserve and La P'tite Gueuze to name a few). However they have never really aggressively sought out market share increase, have steadily navigated the waters of the scene quietly and offering quite a few products, some hit, some miss. This is one of their mainstays.

An initially generous head rises dramatically in the glass supported by a very lively effervescence. The liquid is standard straw colour but is much clearer than I am accustomed to seeing. Within seconds, the large rocky white head dissipates to a film and there is no real lacing. Not bad looking, but I have seen more attractive.

Aromas are big on spice with a generous dose of coriander and outlying notes of citrus fruit up front. The citrus leads to a fine sheet of ''froment'' and a clean dry and slightly tart finish. Simple, fresh, but pleasant and perfect for a hot summer day.

Flavourwise, this beer delivers well above the simplicity of the aromas. A crisp mouthfeel ushers in firm notes of wheat malt and gentle honeyed notes initially. A touch of lemon/lime follows the honey and leads to impressions of freshly baked baguette. A gentle cleansing bitterness finally sweeps in and washes away the faint final traces of wheat and honey to leave but a memory of the beer. Really enjoyable.

Maybe the drinkability score was affected by the 29 degree celsius temperature but I found this to be perfectly drinkable on such a day and wish I had a sixer of this in the fridge to finish the evening.

Another good Quebecois Blanche, however, this one could definately use some tweaking in the flavor department. The brew was a nice light golden/yellow colour with a big white head. The aromas were all wheat, slight spices, and lemon/lime citrus notes. The taste was wheaty, with only a slight spiciness and fruitiness. The mouthfeel was light and the drinkability was good, this beer just needs some more flavor!

Pourred a small head that disapeared very quickly. Very light yellowish color. ABV is almost non-detactable with an enjoyable fruit aroma. I had some better witbier, this one really lack some punch and spice. I guess you never know what to expect from Brasserie Schoune but this was more of a miss
