The beer comes out looking like a kölsch. Golden clear body, big fluffy white head, and leaves some lacing.

The beer has a prominent fruit aroma of pear and apple to go along with the sweet and grainy qualities.

It is light and refreshing. Hits with a little crisp bite there at the swallow. Has a prickly carbonation. A little dry. Flavors of grain, grass and bread.

In the Peter's Brauhaus, this Kolsch is poured into dainty .2 liter glasses from the barrel. Light gold with a foamy off-head. Hops in the nose complement the hard water aroma. Hops dominate the crisp and slightly sweetish flavor. Quite round with a lingering hop aftertaste. By far the best Kolsch I have drunk. According to the barkeeper in response to my comment concerning the size of the pour, "Yes a small glass, but always fresh and cold."

Stubby swing-top, Germany, best by 3/11.

Brilliantly clear yellow-gold with an unimpressive head and average retention.

Aroma has lightly musty hops coupled with a somewhat buttery, biscuity note.

Lightly sweet malt presence is redolent of crackers and biscuits. Bit of ale fruit and earthy hops on the mid-palate. Finish is clean, but perhaps a touch too bitter for the style. Mouthfeel is well-carbonated and fluffy, very good for the style. Drinkability is also good.

Decent Kölsch here.

A: The beer is clear light yellow in color and has a finger high white head that slowly fades away. No carbonation is visible in the form of rising bubbles.
S: There is a light aroma of bready malts and grassy hops in the nose.
T: The beer tastes rather malty and has some hints of bitterness from the hops. There is a slight amount of sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and is crisp, dry and very smooth. No carbonation is perceptible.
D: This beer is a little more filling compared to others in the style so it isn't quite as thirst quenching.

First time in Cologne! Kolsch from keg/barrel on the bar in a 0.2L stange glass.
Crystal clear pale yellow. No visible carbonation.
Slightly more complex nose - light barley wort with just a hint of sulphury funk.
Mildly flavored and very watery and thirst quenching. Simple and delicious

From Gravity at their biergarten on the Altermarkt into a 0.2l stange.

A- Straw blonde body with 1 finger head that reduces to a thin crown very quickly with next to no lacing.

S- Slight sulphur in the aroma (not a fault), faint pils malt.

T- Faint pils malt with a long dry finish. Hop bitterness doesnt stick around.

M- Moderate carbonation, a little thin.

D- Easy to drink but also easy to forget as flavours albeit are delicate in a kolsch, this one just lacks a bit in the finish.

Poured into a 20cL stange glass at the brewpub.

A: Crystal-clear and pale-pale yellow. Head soon dissipates, leaving thin lacing. Looks like the worst kind of American macrobrew.

S: Not much smell. Some slightly spicy topnotes with a skunky base smell which isn't offensive. The smell is boring, plain, and practically nonexistent.

T: Doesn't impress me. Very watery. What flavours are present are mostly grain and water. This is the Natty Light of Köln. Middle taste is naught but a holdover from initial grain. Aftertaste is somewhat dry and subtly bitter.

M: It's alright. Carbonation is present. Beer is...beery.

D: Very drinkable, but not recommended. Went down alright with dinner. Can be used as a water substitute.

I had a 0.2 liter glass of this at the beergarden in front of the brauhaus in Cologne, while hopping from place to place to try as many Kolsches as possible. Based on this unique somewhat side-by-side tasting, I hoped to develop a ranking of which ones are best.

Peter's was a sleeper hit for all of us. It started with proper appearance, pale golden color, clear, with a thin pillow of white foam. The aroma was muted but included the musty funk that I really crave from the style. Without this component how would you know you've got a Kolsch instead of a bland lager? Peter's was really good in that regard, tasty and among my favorites.

In my opinion Peter's is in the upper echelon of the style. Still a mild style of beer but I liked it a lot.

From the barrel @ Peters Brauhaus, Köln.
Golden color, very clean, no bubbles, a beautiful white and creamy foam. Good appearance.
Good smell, too, fresh, a touch of malt, and then a delicate but intense hop, and fresh.
Fresh taste, again. Light malt, background hop, good harmony.
Hop in the aftertaste, bitter, good, not too long.
Almost floral and camomile herbal notes.

This is served in a small .2L tall narrow glass which is the standard Kölsch glass. It was the first time I had actually had a Kölsch in the proper glass. It had a light golden crystal clear body with a small white head. The smell is light with a slight crispness. The taste is very similar with a good crispness from hop bitterness and a hop flavor that follows afterward. It is very light bodied and a good summer drinker. I don't know if I could imagine drinking this in the cold though.

Lasting fine foamy head, velvety on a transparent yellow color body. The smell shows light sweet notes of malt with hints of straw and litchi. The taste was refined and balanced. Malty without really getting annoyingly grainy, sweet but not excessively. Some biscuity notes of vanilla and anise. A light caramel aspect. Mouthfeel was quite convincing. Light grassy straw like notes of hops, balanced with a fine and round maltiness. Slighty creamy and soft. Enjoyable and drinkable. Clean but not dry. The carbonation slightly but enjoyably stimulates the tongue.

Peter's Kölsch is a middle ground Kölsch here in Cologne. It almost always comes off tap (in very few and selected places) but can be found now and then in bottles.

Color is light golden but very luminous and bright. Head is huge and large. Aroma is floral, slightly hoppy and bitter, and balance. A real relaxing and non offensive smell. Flavor is slightly creamy, slightly fruity, and slightly a hundred other small flavors. But this weakness of flavor is its flaw with many Cologners. The biggest Päffgen or Reissdorf fan will admit it does taste bad but it doesnt taste like much. Flavors are slightly watery but they are in there. Mouthfeel is also a tad thinner than the cream of the crop Kölsch beers Ive had but all the same very satisfying for a thinner beer. Drinkability, like any true and good Kölsch is there.
