I had this beer the other day with dinner and it was the least impressive of Heartland's selection to me. So much so that I think it might have been a spoiled keg. (@ the Union Sq location) There was very little flavor and the after-taste left a flat feeling in the mouth. I ordered a different beer just to wash down the Octoberfest. I'll try it again at one of the other restaurants and if my assumption is correct that this was a bad batch will edit the review with new notes. IMO, you may want to get the sampler first before ordering a full pint for now.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retentiona nd lacing.
The smell featured a roasted malt aroma with a bit of caramel sweetness.
The taste consisted of a toasted biscuity graib with a touch of caramel sweetness.
Overall a nice drinkable Octoberfest. Very sessionable.

Very dark amber body. Not much of a head at all. A decent lace does develop though.
Sweet roasted malt aroma as expected. A little raw alcohol. Slight nuttiness too.
Some great flavor in this brew. Roasted malt and a big nuttiness. Maybe black malt is used. It tastes very dark. A slight odd sweet soapiness towards the end. Not sure what that was about, however it's not bad but rather interesting. A good amount of hops in this brew. Solid bitterness. Just enough for an octo-fest. Best part is the aftertaste which lingers for a very long time -roasted malt and maybe even some slight coffee notes.
A pretty good octoberfest IMO. Wasn't expecting much from this brewery but I was pleasantly surprised. nice job coming though in the clutch.
