Formerly Blue Point Pumpkin Ale

Our golden orange-colored Pumpkin Ale is brewed with pumpkin and spices to produce a delicious taste of fall. This mild ale has little bitterness and a malty backbone. The spicy characteristics take the lead in this roasty beer and its tremendous depth of character will keep you warm during the fall season.

Appearance: Red (dare I say orange?) clear pour on draft. Super light tan foam only 3mm tall. Lost its loft quickly but kept lacing.

Aroma: Very weak Aroma of canned pumpkin, nutmeg, and allspice. An off odor I can't quite place.

Taste: Take the nose and add malt, cinnamon, and clove. Much more spice on the tongue compared to the nose. But less pumpkin, although this isn't a bad thing.

Feel: Crisp with high carbonation which fit the lightness well. A little sticky and dry.

Overall: Despite the smell and taste being at odds with each other, it ended up being fairly well balanced for a pumpkin ale.

The look and smell were the best aspects of this beer. Dark copper in color, and the nose was almost a straight up cinnabon. Taste was almost all cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, with almost no pumpkin. Maybe a little ginger. Very sweet and the mouthfeel was watery, although it had a semi-dry finish. Very underwhelming pumpkin beer.

Blue Point Brewing Co. "Mother Pumpkin Ale"
12 fl. oz. can coded "14 DEC22 MY1420" and sampled on 04OCT22
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: The label reads "ALE WITH PUMPKIN & SPICES" so there are no "natural" or artificial flavorings invovled. It's a clear copper-orange in color beneath a short head of off-white foam that seems to be holing well. The aroma clearly offers pumpkin pie spice with cinnamon and clove. I think there's also allspice there, and probably nutmeg but I'm not sure, perhaps the taste will tell us? Yes, I'm not a spice expert but I do think I'm tasting both nutmeg and allspice in addition to the clove and cinnamon. The spices are definitely there, no doubt about that, and I wonder if by the end of the glass that's all I'll taste. The malt is sweetish, grainy, bready, and lightly caramelish. It's not very bitter but the spices do their part to dry it in the end and it finishes dry and spicy. Quite often the cinnamon is overdone but I don't think that's the case here; it's a nice blend of spices. The spices might be slightly overdone in comparison to the malt but I'm assuming that they're expecting customers who really want the spice to be clear. In any case it's more like a beer with spices added than a piece of sweet pumpkin pie, and I'm sure there are pumpkin "pastry beers" on the market. in the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. Overall it's nicely done and I'm not overwhelmed by the spice; I could drink another.

Pours a clear amber. Spicy aroma. Pumpkin spice and cinnamon body. Sweet and spicy finish. Not bad. Slightly better than average.

A: Bready textured light pie crust colored head sits one half inch atop a light tangerine colored body of medium density. The head was short lived, while a good sense of macro-effervesce bubbles are active beneath. Small spotty lace marks. The head color nailed it, an almost pumpkin stem like coloring best suited per name.

S: Huge pumpkin pie spicing shows bold showings of nutmeg, cinnamon and spicy cloves in particular. Moist pumpkin puree is sweet, muscovado, grainy toasty sweetness with some bready crust outlines. Apple brown betties along with some sweet caramel are solid in strength. It is what it is, a pumpkin pie spiced theme beer, that is sweet on the nose hitting all the checkmarks.

T: Toasty pumpkin puree, some pumpkin seeds, toasted caramel and some spicing of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves as with the nose. Some munich dryness, and toasted grain base.

M: Good medium fullness, puree like, spicy, with a crisp carbonation.

O: A spicy nose with individual character, and a decent flavor, but it seemed like it lacked a bit of malty pumpkin character to back up the spicing. Thins out a bit flavor wise, moderate drinkability and toasted warmth gets good regards as a solid B offering from me.

Medium light body with just under average carbonation.
Aroma wasn't very strong but there was pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin puree, malt and some bread.
Taste is mildly sweet ,a little dry from the spice but stronger than the aroma. Pumpkin puree, bread/crust and the right amount of spice.
Its pie in a can and fairly well done.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Sweet pumpkin with subtle spices.

o: nice aroma, but the flavor is a bit of a let down, it's not bad it's just a bit thin

Served on tap in a conical pint glass at Legends in New Suffolk, NY; retried on10/13/10 from a bottle, best by 2/17/20.
A: Pours a crystal clear, medium to dark copper color with a one half finger, wheat colored head, not terribly impressive retention, but rings and rings of lacing (on tap).
S: Aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin predominate, but caramel, maybe more molasses range also detectable.
T: Semisweet. Flavors largely follow the aroma picture, but cloves and cardamom are also evident, with cinnamon blending seemlessly with the bitter at end. Somewhat earthy overall.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A little watery are the end.
O: Not usually a big fan of Pumpkin beers, but this is flavorful without the pumpkin and cinnamon being overpowering. Blue Point really got this style about right (one man's opinion).

The aroma in this ale is absolutely amazing, I can just stick my nose in this pint glass for hours without getting sick of that aroma. It is a little watery, but there is a decent amount of pumpkin coming out on the taste. The spiced are somewhat subdued in this ale compared to other pumpkin ales that I have had. I can see myself knocking back a few of these easily. This is one of the better Blue Point beers that i have had lately. Cheers! B
