Picked up a growler of this on Thursday...consumed on Sunday.
Deep, dark black with no light passing thru...a half finger of tan head sits on top for just a few minutes...very little lacing compared to others in the style.
Very inviting aroma...mild sweetness with a hefty dose of dark chocolate. Just a hint of vanilla and coffee.
Taste is real good...huge chocolate profile, rich and hearty.
Some decent hops too...not too green, but more bitter than sweet.
A hint of espresso too, but the chocolate flavor dominates...the oats add some nice depth to this full-bodied brew.
Easy to consume with the abv @ less than 5%...at $8 for a refill, I'd be all over this one time and time again.

Cask Oatmeal Stout at the Brewery on 1/27/23. I think that the bottled or keg Oatmeal stout is just OK. The cask version shines. The temperature is moderate, as is the carbonation. The Stout will never be a blockbuster beer, but the cask version goes down very easily, and is satisfying. Two cask beers on today at the brewery.

Being a big fan of Oatmeal and Chocolate stouts, I was looking forward to this one. But the pour was my first hint. The head came and went. Woosh...gone. And my first sip said stout and seltzer. Nice carbonation but thin and watery. Imagine a Bell's or other real stout with a splash of soda. Perhaps a nice cocktail, but not an Oatmeal stout as we would expect. Nice color, pretty nice taste (no overt bitterness) and very drinkable. Just disappointingly thin. At under 5 bucks a bomber, not a bad deal.

Brief impressions from a brown glass bottle picked up for $4.99 USD at a Brooklyn bodega:
Nice cascading khaki colour head with a soft even consistency. ~5-6cm in height with good (~5-7 minute) retention. Leaves a nice layer of even coating on the sides of the glass as it recedes. Body colour is, predictably, an opaque solid black. No yeast or sediment is visible within.
Aroma brings notes of sweet chocolate (malt), caramel, Whoppers-redolent malted milk balls, and a hint of roast along with the requisite dark malt sweetness. Suggests a beer that's too sweet for an oatmeal stout, lacking adequate balancing bitterness from roasted barley or other means (coffee, char, burnt sugars, etc.). Aromatic intensity is average.
Texture is light and thin bordering on watery, but has a nice smoothness and wetness to it - owing to the smoothening oats the style is named for. Well-carbonated with a nice softness and creaminess to it. Unrefreshing (to style). More body and dryness would help. The label calls it "silky" - which is a bit of a stretch, but I see what they're going for.
But texture is hardly the main issue here. It's indeed a bit too sweet in terms of (im)balance, but the most fundamental problem here is the lack of depth of flavour; there are no vivid deep expressive notes - just some shallow chocolate malt, the usual generic dark malt sweetness, and maybe some caramel/hints of roast. Build is too simple to interest discerning drinkers, and I don't require much of an oatmeal stout - just a nice one-two punch of robust dark malts and roasted barley; this doesn't deliver. Average flavour duration and intensity.
To style, there are no overt hop flavours. I find no overt off-flavours. No yeasty notes.
Overall, it's drinkable fare but it's also a bit of a shrug of a beer - but then what can one really expect in a $5.00 bomber? Oh, wait, actually a lot - see Lagunitas Hop Stoopid. Blue Point needs to go way bigger on the roasted malt(ed barley), get rid of the crystal malt & give this more body, and commit to more complexity (coffee wouldn't hurt, but if this delivered in terms of style basics it wouldn't need it). I can't imagine any drinker who's aware of both brands reaching for this over, say, Trader Joe's Stockyard Oatmeal Stout - and that's a lot cheaper and more widely available than this. Heaven forbid this try to compete with Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, let alone Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast or other style paragons. I imagine it's successful because of Blue Point's niche "budget bomber" approach, but it's not a beer I'd buy a second time unless the selection at a given store was bleak. Not bad - just mediocre.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 01/21/2016. Sampled on July 12, 2016.
It pours deep dark brown with a modest head. Opaque.
The aroma has a touch of chocolate malt and cooked oatmeal. Low hop profile.
The body is thin to medium.
The taste brings out some nice sweet dark malt, oatmeal, and chocolate characteristics with a mild and clean finish.

Look: Pours completely black from the bottle into a brandy tumbler, even when held directly up to the light. A blend of white and café colored bubbles mix with each other to form a two colored swirl, one finger head.
Smell: It's absolutely sexy. Huge, chewy, toasted oat smell. I get soft notes of candied raisins and plums too. They fade and take a backseat to the smell of rich bitter dark chocolate malt. Coffee and caramel. Mild vanilla bean ice cream smell (from the lactose and oats).
Feel: At 5.3% abv it has a fairly thin feel to it, yet it's still chewy and thick enough for you to swash around and savor like a meal in a glass. Slates your thirst but finishes dry.
Taste: The beer is too tasty to put down and stop drinking. Bittersweet dark chocolate and vanilla beans dance upon the savory, soft, and decadent flavors of roasted oats and porridge. Subtle coffee bean flavors. Prominent aftertaste of raisins and black currant.
