Pours a clear very dark brown, almost black in color. Smells like roasted coffee and some toasted bread. Taste begins with a tart coffee flavor, followed by a bit of dark bread, and finishes with some licorice, smoked wood, and earthy hops. Mouthfeel is a little light. Overall a good porter.

Appearance - Pours a dark ruby brown color with a light, coca colored finger width head. Sub-par retention. Fine, sticky lacing.
Smell - Faint aroma; notes of moderately roasted chocolate malt, and not much else.
Taste - Flavors are just as subtle as the smell. Copper notes ring throughout, while moderate roasted malt character peaks mid-taste- caramel and subtle chocolate. Finishes with earthy character, somewhat like dirt and with a lot of the copper.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with fair carbonation.
Overall - Not a very good tasting porter. Lots of odd, metallic character dominates much of the experience. No freshness date, so I have no way of knowing if this was just an old or infected bottle. In any event, I'm in no hurry to want to try this one again.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours very murky dark reddish brown color with a huge 2-3 finger fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Good soapy lacing on the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation. This foamed up instantly on the pour, so its probably infected. Aromas of caramel, molasses, roasted malt, raisin, chocolate, prune, toast, toffee, apple skin, grass, and herbal spiciness. Some pretty unpleasant aromas as expected after that foamy pour. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, apple, biscuit, toffee, and herbal spiciness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Unlike the aromas, the flavors are actually quite robust with good balance; no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid porter, even for being infected. Some solid flavors that are fairly robust; very smooth to drink. I had no problem finishing it at all.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy 1 inch dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa nibs, and slight coffee bean aromas. Taste is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, roasted coffee beans, and a char flavor on the finish. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty easy to drink but nothing all that exciting for the style.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark red brown with slight translucence. A bit less than a half finger off-white head that dissipated fairly quickly to a ring around the glass with light lacing. Aroma of toasted malt with a hint of chocolate and dark fruit. Light flavor of toasted malt, light hops with a hint of chocolate. Somewhat dry finish with some lingering coffee and hop bitterness. A satisfactory porter, but rather muted flavors Light to medium bodied, mouth feel improved by prickly carbonation, a pleasant surprise because of the lackluster head. Could use a bit more robustness.

A - dark brown almost black with a reddish hue; quarter of an inch of off white, fizzy, soft head; quickly fades to a thin lacing
S - chocolate, creamy, roasted malts, toffee, mild dark fruit
T - roasted malts, creamy, bittersweet chocolate, mild bitter hops, toffee, a slight creamy note
M - smooth, well carbonated, medium bodied
This is a very enjoyable beer. It's easy to drink and flavorful. This is my first Butte Creek offering and I'm really enjoying it.

355ml "pry-off" (standard pressure cap) brown glass bottle served into a Guinness goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average. Acquired at Hi-Time Liquor in Costa Mesa, CA.
Served refrigerator cold and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
Paired with mini Reester Bunnies. (Don't ask)
A: Pours a one and a half finger head of good cream, nice thickness, and great retention. Colour is not a predictable solid black, but rather a very dark ruby. A bit standard for a porter, but I'm looking forward to it.
Sm: Coffee/mocha, chocolate, hints of roast, and dark malts. Certainly appealing, though I wouldn't call it alive - at least no yeast is detectable. Inviting. A moderate strength aroma.
T: Chocolate throughout, with a mocha and cream open. Coffee is present in an annoying light manner, never coming through as a solid distinct note but never quite backgrounded as a subtle note. Dark malts comprise the foundation, with maybe some biscuit malt. Balanced well but a bit boring. We've seen this before in porters. Not experimental or bold. That said, as a beer brewed to style I find it enjoyable. The mocha is a wonderful touch. I like it. Built safely but pretty well. Simple and not horribly subtle, but nevertheless pleasant.
Mf: Smooth and wet, with some cream. Good thickness. Complements the flavour profile and style well.
Dr: Drinkable but of limited quality. I'd like to try this on nitro-draught. I'd have it again, but I don't know that I'd recommend it to friends. I'm looking forward to trying other beers from the brewery.

Garnet black with a root beer head that fades fast. Charcoal, espresso bean and dark chocolate on the nose.
Coffee bean, soil and blackberry juice then some barky hops.
Pine tar finish and lean dry linger. Medium, oily, some chew.
Nice dark flavors up front, but kinda dies on the finish. I'd expect more hops from an American porter. No great shakes.

I'm not a pro at reviewing these beers, but this one was one that I instantly fell in love with, so I wanted to share my thoughts.
The appearance wasn't beautiful, but it made up for it in taste. This is an incredibly smooth porter, one with nice sweet chocolate taste and no bitter aftertaste. Honestly, from first to last sip, it may have taken 2-3 minutes. It's hard for me to drink a beer that fast, but this was just so delicious I couldn't stop!
