A nice hazy brown German beer with a good frothy light tan head. Goes to lacing. Nice even carbonation. The aroma is sweet and nutty. Flavor is very smooth, malty, nutty with a slight buttery finish. Banana too. Medium body and mouthfeel. Flavor is good, but a little "soft" in the finish. Still, a top-notch dunkelweizen.

I am sampling this beer out of a 12 oz bottle and into a mason jar. It has a nice dark amber color to it with a nice white 1/2" head on it. The aroma of this beer is very malty with a touch of banana and maybe some clove. Tasting this beer was a joy it has a disticnt malt taste with a touch of sweet candy sugar and some banana flavor as well. This is a very drinkable beer smooth on the palate, but it has a slight bite at the end. The bite doesn't linger though.

Ahh the Mrs. bought me a six-pack of this. I guess I should buy her some flowers or something now. Served in a weizen glass with a murky amber appearance and nice two finger head. Smells of bread with a light smell of roasted malt and hops. Taste is similar to smell bread up front with cloves and roasted malt cutting to just a hint of hops. The mouthfeel is light with plenty of creamy suds, that’s the way I like it! This is beer is very drinkable. It would be great summertime beer, for a hot afternoon.

Poured 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A- Pours a nice cloudy brown/amber color. Nice khaki head on the top that laces well

S- Roasted malts with a hint of banana

T- You can taste the chocolate malt and roasted malt mixed with a heavy dose of wheat

M- Creamy and silky making it very drinkable

O- Very drinkable without being over-powering on any front. I would definitely recommend this to someone that doesn't normally like "darker beers."

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint.

A: Nice cream-colored head that diminishes to a film. Medium brown, opaque liquid.

S: Banana, brown bread, and cloves are noticeable right off.

T: Spicy banana bread with cloves. Not too sweet, which would ruin it. You can really tast the nutty goodness of the roasted wheat. Very nice.

M: Creamy with medium body. Delectable and perfect for the style.

D: One taste and I wanted to guzzle the whole glass down. This is what you want in a brew. Would be good any time of year. Maybe not quite as good as Weihenstephaner's version, but very close. Another wonderful example of my favorite style of beer.

Poured a decent head, but didn't last. Color is a cloudy, light copper color. Smells of sweat maltiness. Taste was slightly sweet with a bit of fruitiness. Fairly easy to drink. I probably won't buy it again though. Average at best.

Taken from notes written after Capital Ale House—Innsbrook’s Oktoberfest celebration.

Presentation: One liter of this beer was served in a glass Paulaner stein. No indication of freshness, but it does not show any adverse signs of over-aging.

Appearance: The beer pours a dark and murky brown with a frothy, white, and long-lasting head. Decent carbonation was observed. It looks appetizing.

Smell: Heavy on the caramel and banana, with hints of clove. A bit of chocolate and dark fruit seems to creep through as well, albeit more as undertones.

Taste: Fresh banana with wheaty, bready malts. An assault of caramel laced with clove and chocolate. I noticed a tinge of dark fruit falling in with a mild hop bitterness. The beer had a dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and creamy. Went down very smoothly from beginning to finish.

Drinkability: Definitely a beer that’s easy to tackle, even in large quantities. I was initially intimidated by the size of the glass handed to me, but I tackled it with gusto. I’d be glad to have this one again and again.

Notes: Since having this beer on tap, I’ve had it repeatedly out of a bottle and my opinion of it has not degraded. I find the flavor somewhat smoother and some of the fruit notes more noticeable on tap, but this remains an excellent beer.

Another great dunkel weiss.

A: Nice and dark, murky dark brownish amber and orange light with thick two finger off-white/tan head, no lacing on my wheat glass

S: Fruity, like banana bread, roasted bready malts

T: Strong banana, but not as sweet or full as others in the style. Enjoyable all the same with very nice roasted malt flavors, its almost like fresh fruity bread in a glass.

M: Carbonation is smooth, doesn't get in the way of the taste. Leaves my mouth a little sticky or chalky afterward, and the aftertaste is not as sweet as Weihenstephaners.

D: Very drinkable as an aperitif , but i think I'll need something else to wash down this glass of liquid bread as my mouth is still dry, maybe a sandwich and some Hofbräu.

A-Opaque medium brown with good amount of head. Head diminishes to leave a fair bit of oily lacing.

S-Cloves, Banana, Wheat, Sweet/Gum

T-Wheat, bready, some banana, slight spice, well balanced

M-Great body with only a slight bit of carbonation, remains quite smooth

D-Good, great body, with pleasant smooth taste

Fantastic. Quick note about this beer, The freshness date on my bottle says 04.06....HAH! Hardly, this beer tastes fresh and bubbly and all around great. I guess this is one of those beers that gets better with age. I bought this off the shelf to boot, no fridge. Amazing.

Poured out a rich caramel color with a thick chunky head. Head disapated entirely by about halfway through. But the carbonation stuck around, every time I set the glass down, a new school of bubble erupted in the glass. Smells of caramel, sweet and malty. Creamy mouthfeel. No bitterness for a darker beer, though it is wheat, I was expecting some, just because of how dark it is.

Loved this beer, would and will buy it again. I hope to find a bottle with a recent freshness date so I can see what this tastes like when its young. For how old this bottle was, I was already amazed at the test, I just wonder if its even better when its fresh.

Mike.

Poured into pint glass

S- Roasted malt, sweet

A- Dark red amber, rusty almost, thick cream colored head, looks warm and inviting, minimal lacing

T- Nutty, toasted wheat/bread

M- Slightly flat, medium feel, sits heavy, filling

O- Solid dunkel. Was expecting more depth or complexity. Felt slightly watered down. I'll chill the next one a bit.

An Austrian-American neighbor turned me onto this beer over a decade ago back when it was more readily available in bomber size bottles before the Paulaner merger. A most exceptional dunkle-weiss in most respects although I think it has gone down a bit in quality over the years from mass production. I do remember when availability of this beer would be hit or miss back in the day from import shortages here in the States.

Current formulation pours with an extremely thick head into a fluted glass no matter how careful you are. Thick bandy lacing. Mouthfeel is wet and warm. Taste is nice and roasted, thoughts of hot fresh bread with hints of caramel and sweet dried fruits assail me with every sip. A bit of acidicness is prevalent when drinking.

This beer is best experienced when combined with a ligher beer like Hoegaarden White. Enjoy.

Like with current Paulaners a 6 or 12 pack may contain a sour stinker, if you drink this and it's sour or metallic tasting then it's gone over, pour it out and move along to the next.

One of the best Dunkles. Great flavor and head retention. Love the malty, clover tase. Not very hoppy....true to style. Wonderful mouthfeel and smooth, malty aftertaste. Cloudy as a summer day in Seattle....and that's a good thing! Enjoy this one in the summer. Some like it with fruit, but I think it's much better straight up!

This is one of the best dark wheat beers in the world. The taste is so smooth for a wheat beer. A lot of wheat beers will leave a funny flavor if your not used to drinking them, but this one is so smooth. Color is exceptional and you have to pour this beer in a tall glass and watch the beautiful bubbles. Its magical.
