Iced tea apperance, cloudy. Minimal head from easy pour.
Wheat grains fill the nose. Slight sweetness to it. Some earthy tones with clove and maybe lemon grass.
Grain flavors mix with hints of sweet malt. Some grainy astringant flavors mid to finish. A little bannana too. Clove finishes strong and stay on palid.
Hardy mouthfeel, grains seem to beef up drink.
Noticed production date of 11/07. Neverless enjoyable brew and look forward to sampling other offerings from brewer.

This is one of the best dark wheat beers in the world. The taste is so smooth for a wheat beer. A lot of wheat beers will leave a funny flavor if your not used to drinking them, but this one is so smooth. Color is exceptional and you have to pour this beer in a tall glass and watch the beautiful bubbles. Its magical.

S-Cloves, Banana, Wheat, Sweet/Gum

T-Wheat, bready, some banana, slight spice, well balanced

M-Great body with only a slight bit of carbonation, remains quite smooth

D-Good, great body, with pleasant smooth taste

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a coppery brown color, with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a decent on the glass.

S: The aroma is of wheat, caramelized dark malts, some spice and a touch of hops.

T: The taste has sweet flavors of caramel and bananas up front with a touch of spice in the background. Then a bready wheat flavor and a hearty malt character come in. The hops presence is mild as it should be in this type of beer and is strong enough to bring some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer with flavor and substance that is worth drinking for a while.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer poured a big giant head. The smell was sour and sweet. The beer cloudy. The beer tasted rotten sour. If you like sour rotten beer the by all means drink this. Beer should not be sour I don't care which country likes it makes it or loves it. It is just wrong.

Appearance- beautiful look off the pour, just a great thick frothy foamy head, Lots of small bubbles rapidly stream fast up the glass, dark cloudy murky brown with even bits of sediment to be clearly seen, just beautiful look,

Smell- yeast and wheat, slight banana and other sweet malty aromas to be noticed, enjoyable but not overwhelming nose

Taste- nice banana, clove, yeast, wheat, slight malt sweetness, but maintains a nice balance and does not become over the top sweet, very nice and refreshing long finish,

Mouthfeel- Very light and crisply refreshing, very smooth mouth feel with nice carbonation

Drinkability- extraordinary drinkablity, i could drink this all nite long, very thirst quenching and well balanced, really nice finish and flavor, very great example of the style,

Poured into a weizen glass from a 12 oz. bottle packaged on 06/09. Had had this prior but it had some unwanted age on it, this one is reasonably fresh. Pours a cloudy orange chocolate in color with a full inch of soapy foam. Offers good but not stellar retention and light lacing.

Smells of sweet banana and wheat. Bit of clove spice, becoming more evident with warming. More wheat on the palate, somewhat dry, and with a light toasted grain feel on the finish and just a hint of fig. Smooth close yet a bit thin at times, not offering the body of the more refined Weihenstephaner in my view even though it may be truer to style. Solid nonetheless though not as complex as their standard Weisse with regards to yeast nuances.

On tap at Kickoff in Waterloo.

Pour is that of a typical dunkel: murky light brown, nice thick head. Good lacing and retention.

The smell is certainly that of a weisse. Like a hay field in the summer, but with some coriander and citrus lingering in the back.

Taste is very smooth, like a muted version of its hefe. Quite enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is almost too carbonated, but thick enough to be savoured.

I still prefer their hefe, but the Hacker dunkel is certainly a first rate example of the style. Glad I could try it on draught: could drink this all night!

One of the best Dunkles. Great flavor and head retention. Love the malty, clover tase. Not very hoppy....true to style. Wonderful mouthfeel and smooth, malty aftertaste. Cloudy as a summer day in Seattle....and that's a good thing! Enjoy this one in the summer. Some like it with fruit, but I think it's much better straight up!

Poured from the bottle into a frosty mug.

The color is dark amber, slightly hazy with some slight white head. No lacing.

The smell is a hearty wheat flavor. It feels like the the dark labels temple to ray in. It was just what the doctor ordered. A mix of wet hops and some sweet malts.

The taste i just a problematic mineral vice. It has just the right amount of flavor with some roasted malt and well as a wheaty/fruity flavor to this beer as well.

This beer has a medium body and is pretty carbonated. It has some nice drinkability and is pretty easy on the palate.

Poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: Hazy light copper color. Plenty of sediment at the bottom.

Smell: Lots of wheat and a little malt.

Taste: In congruence with the smell. Slight spiciness.

Mouthfeel: Ever so smooth, with just enough zing to keep things interesting.

Drinkability: I could drink this all night. I'm halfway disappointed there's some other beers I wanted to try tonight.

Overall, this is a great dunkleweizen. Pour every drop of sediment out of the bottle to maximize your dunkle-drinking pleasure!

From a 12oz bottle poured a slightly cloudy amber colour with a huge frothy off white head. Smells of lighty toasted malts, light fruit and bread. Tastes sweet and smooth, pretty well balanced. I'm usually not a fan of this style of beer but this one is quite good and I could see my self picking it up again.

The body looks like a brownish/orange color, but when held up to light all traces of brown disappear and are replaced by some nice orange, red, and rust hues. About a finger and a half of tan head has OK retention, but only leaves one or two spots of lacing behind.

The aroma has some slightly roasted darker malts in it, paired with a wheat twang and a bit of banana.

What I thought was a roasted character in the malt really subsides in the flavor. The dark malt takes on more of molasses character, paired with a slight wheat twang to it. Banana and a bit of clove come through also. The banana and clove are very balanced with the dark malts, making a tasty brew.

The mouthfeel is a bit creamy, fairly full. The carbonation is moderate.

Pretty drinkable beer, overall rather good.

Appearance: Poured with a small tan bubbly fizzy head that dissipated leaving very little lacing at the top of my glass. The beer is an orangish brown and is slightly hazy.

Smell: Sweet ripe banana and orange, caramelized sugar, tangy yeast, sweet and tangy wheat, and some roasted malt.

Taste: Sweet fruity banana, roasted malt, tangy wheat, sweet caramel, small metallic flavor, ending with a sweet ripe fruit sugar flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, somewhat syrupy, a lot of carbonation, leaves mouth with a sticky coating.

Overall: Really good drinkability, a little high on the carbonation which takes away from the taste. Pretty sweet, but has a nice roasted character and tang from the yeast and wheat to help even things out a bit.

A: Slightly hazy brown color like dark caramels. Poured a 3 finger bubbly light tan head withi good retention to a half inch cap. Decanted lightly throughout. Lace in rings that fell in thin sheets.

S: Cararmel, chocolate and roasted Nuts blended with banana a clove. Light floral hops came through as the beer warmed.

T: Big toasted malts really came through; chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts. The classic banana and clove came through in the middle. Sharp bitter in the end for a crsip, dry balance.

M: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Silky, warm and smooth. Sharp bitter finish leaves the mouth clean and dry.

D: Very flavorful, smooth and balanced. Interesting drink that easy to drink.

A- Medium sized off white head that dissipates somewhat quickly. Nice lightly hazed brown colored beer.

S- Roasted Nuts, milk chocolate, caramel, bananas, cloves, and a hint of honey, and some light floral hops. I really like all the smells this beer has going on.

T- Chocolate covered bananas with caramel drizzled over it. Also some nice clove spice and roasted nuts in the flavor. The hops are more apparent in the flavor then in the aroma, they add a nice dry bitter crispness to balance the beer out a little. This is a tasty beer.

M- Nice silky mouthfeel with a bit of hop bite at the end. Finishes somewhat dry but leaves a chocolate banana coating in your mouth.

This is one of the best dunklewizens I have ever had. Great beer, I will be buying more of this!

This was pretty good. I think I had my hopes up a bit because it was a dark wheat and I thought I'd get more complexity and body out of it. It seemed a bit thin, but that's just based on my expectations... still a good beer and worth trying.

A - Amber

S - wheat, sweet, yeast, and the usual bananna clove smell of this style.

T - light, clean. A real nice wheat, but I was hoping to get more body and complexity considering it was dark. Still, it's full bodied.

M - Clean, nice soft carb

D - easy to drink.

Had on-tap at a local German Joint...

- Cloudy brown/amber with a tint of orange.. creamy off-white head that was about an inch thick... took a moment to settle down to a thick stream of gooey lacing.

- Smell of fruit.. ester, banana Belgian yeast scent.. slight creamy malt..

- Rather smooth, fruity, yeasty, little bit of bread... some clove, cinnamon..

- Little dry and left a strong aftertaste... but overall good..

- Very drinkable... was great ice cold, smooth.. perfect carbonation... not bad.

* Just had, but reviewing from memory..

It poured dark amber-brown. It had a large four finger head. It was full of carbonation, and clear.

It had a nice scent of malt and clover.

It had a slight flavor of banana. A nice clover taste was present. There was some nice hop, and malt flavor in the finish. It was medium bodied and smooth.

It is very drinkable. I wish there was some more fruity zest; however, it was very good none-the-less.

On tap at The Buck Hotel in the Philly area. Served in a tall Hacker-Pschorr Glass.

A- H-P Dunkle Weisse is a dark brown color with some dark red hints when held up to the chandelier. This has a thick look to it from the glass. A nice 1/2 inch white cap stayed throughout the 20 or so ounces. No lacing though, oh well.

S- Not a very complex brew as I mostly if not completely only get caramel from the heaping of malts used in this. This gives off a bready appeal and not much else. Warming did not help things but some cinnamon and slight banana creeped through.

T- This tastes exactly like it smells and I hate to write that in my reviews but it's the truth. This one is malt forward leaving no room for other flavors(if there are any) to come through. With that said this is a decent dunkle. Just a bunch of caramel.

M- Just a bit above medium bodied with an apparent thickness to it. A good amount of carbonation which was not present when I had a bottle. Nothing in terms of bitterness making this one a smooth ride. Very sweet and very one sided.

D- Drinking this I could of swore this was in the 7-8% ABV range with all the malts used but I was surprised when I read 5.3%. Sessionable but my tall hacker glass was enough for me. The taste is just very one-demensional leaving me not wanting to order another. This is pretty drinkable though.

Had this served in a Paulaner glass at the Dutchman's Brauhaus on Long Beach Island. Nice German food with a good hefe to celebrate the new spring.

A: Hazy brownish. A soft and creamy white head that rolls a little as it goes down, leaving some stings of lace behind.

S: Some nice, rich notes of clove and even a hint of nutmeg. Banana is there, but not with as big a 'creamy dessert' like presence.

T: More banana sweetness on the flavour. A nice spot of malt and a little spiciness towards the finish.

M + D: A moderate, yet assertive carbonation over a body that holds its own with a little weightiness. An easy going drink, and a good pairing with a sauerbrauten sandwich!

Nice looking brew, poured to a cloudy brown color, almost a iced-tea color with a huge thick fluffy off white to very light tan head that has good retention. Some nice lacing down the side of the glass though not as much as I had expected based on the size of the head. The aroma has a nice wheat smell, slightly toasted, fruit flavors highlighted by banana. The flavor is good, wheat malt flavors come to mind right away, nice roast like taste. The middle and tail end see the flavors changing as fruit flavors come out more and more. Banana is the major fruit flavor but I feel that I am also picking up some pear? Has a very smooth feel, ind of silky as it goes down. Real nice brew and for the price you can't beat it. This brew drinks very easily as I am pretty much finished with it already, could be a good session brew.
