Though they may have a decent selection of beers, it is not a place for a craft drinker to come. This place is a pure college bar, especially upstairs and is actually a really fun place to be. As with many places I heard it was a little worse before the smoking ban but so were almost all bars. The place though is nice and has a good college bar atmosphere, meaning it is usually loud. On thursday's this is the place to be for college students in Kalamazoo with great pitcher specials.
The service that I have had was nothing exceptional but as many college bars are, it is usually easier and smarter to just go up to the bar for a drink rather than waiting to be served, also that lets you move around a little more. Overall I really do enjoy this place as a good college bar in Kalamazoo, which there are very few that are good. I am not sure why this place is on BA though as I would not go here to sample and enjoy craft beers, unless I had a much larger beer budget to drink that many micros to get to the normal mood of this place.

Waldo's has been an establishment on WMU's campus for over 20 years and has become the token weekend hangout for us.
The place is a dichotomy of sorts. College-type bar upstairs with the usual macro taps, plus one rotating Bells and usually a few Arcadia seasonals in bottles. They have a few pool tables, darts and an outdoor beer garden with bags in the summer.
Downstairs at the "Pilsen Klub" they have a pretty good selection of micros and imports (about 100 bottles) plus four non-blue and red taps usually featuring Stella and Pilsner Urquell. The prices are fair, with bottles usually running $4 for the common fare. They also have a "passport club" for those interested in trying them all. It is usually much quieter down there, and they offer comfy couches and a roaring fire when the temperature drops. I tend to move around depending on my mood/interest at the time, and they have no issue with beers from downstairs making it upstairs or outside.
The bar and wait staff are always friendly and helpful, and most often on the other side of the bar on their nights off. It is not uncommon to find one of the managers half in the bag with a pint of Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout in his hand. They are always open to suggestion, such as a new brewery or specific beer offering. If they don't have it they will try to get it if they know there will be interest. For food, the wings are exceptional and the rest is standard bar food.
Overall, it is a place we really enjoy. They may not have the largest selection in town, but the prices and atmosphere make it a great place to visit. Just watch out for the army of college student on Thursday nights, they come for the mixed drink pitcher specials.

Waldo's is a college hang out right near Western Michigan. This place is usually pretty loud to very, very loud. There are always plenty of smokers around.
They don't have a lot to choose from. They do have a cheap pitcher night for liquor but the beer specials are pretty dull. Everybody here is pretty much drunk or trying to get there.
The best part about Waldo's is their food, which is pretty surprising considering the place just looks filthy. However, Waldo's has the best wings I have ever had. They have these "mixed barbeque" wings which are just incredible. I cannot say enough to describe how amazing these wings are. If you go around five in the evening you can eat a delicious meal without people yelling all around you.
Not the best place to go unless you want some great wings!

My type of place after a tough week at work/school to cut loose. Upstairs has a decent sized bar area and tables, a good place to catch a game (sports bar feel). Downstairs is more my vibe, especially in the winter. Open fireplace, some couches, and a more laid back feel.
Quality is alright, has that college bar feel and can get a bit congested on some nights. That also plays heavy with the service you receive...especially on thursday nights.
Selection is somewhat shady. A place where you can get Molson Canadian as a beer of the month says it all! I have never had the food, but as usual, it seems to be standard pub affair.
Strange mix at this place and smokey to boot. The crowd is hit or miss
On another note, I always ran into a freckled guy at the bar by the nickname of "Tin Tucker" or "ol'Tinny." He was a regular and knows the town very well. He told me other places to check out in K-zoo

A dichatmous place...the upstairs is the total college drinking stop with pitcher specials on Thursdays and a rowdy, fraternity kind of atmosphere. The Pilsen Klub downstairs is a different story. Not a lot of selection on draft (e.g. Guinness, Pilsner Urquel, etc.) but one of the best bottle selections in Kalamazoo. They have a range of Belgian, German, British, and American brews. The booths are pretty cool to with laminated cutouts in the tables with old wine/beer labels and crazy stuff. Not quite a beer hallish feel, but definately ratskeller-ish. I know people who really like the Pilsen Klub and those who frankly don't. Count me as someone who does.

This place is about 1/4 mile from the campus of WMU so it's no suprise that it is basically filled with loud frat guys guzzling bud light. The upstairs is basically a role-model for frat-bar wannabees. The real treasure here is downstairs in the Pilsen Klub. Very dark and cellar-like, it's usually quiet. A big fire place sits against one wall with comfortable chairs and a sofa to sit in, sip your Bell's and watch the flames dance around. A sharp contrast to the comotion upstairs. Nice place to waste away on a cold Michigan winter night.

I'm surprised to see this on here. Basically a college bar where people go to get pitchers of Long Islands and the like on Thursday nights for real cheap. Weekends seem fairly dead. Tap selection is decent with a Bell's tap, a Goose Island tap, maybe Arcadia too, then the macros. Downstairs has a good bottle selection but its not really the place to be. If you're looking for a good beer bar, don't go here. If you're looking to party with drunk college students, go here. Better beer bar options around.
