Located in a great part of Metro Detroit - Royal Oak is decent place to walk around. Overall selection is not as extensive as Merchants, especially in the import selection. However the actual store is much nicer. Pricing seemed reasonable (had the Breakfast Stout for $10 - 4 pack), and it was easy to get around the selection as it's well organized. Glassware was non existent - somewhat surprising for a higher end store. My only gripe is the inability to break sixers - for me this makes or breaks a store.
Beer Haul:
Founders Breakfast Stout
Founders Red Rye
Dark Horse Special Reserve Black Bier
Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza

A grocery store with an exceptionally fine selection of beer, Holiday Market has a mix of Michigan, import, and US craft brews, as well as the ubiquitous macros that hide along the refrigerated quarter of the beer section.
Hometown beer selection is the yardstick by which I think all beer stores should be measured, and Holiday passes with flying colors. They've got a full array of Bell's, Founders, Jolly Pumpkin, Arcadia, New Holland, and Dark Horse brews as well as a decent selection from some of the area brewpubs that do some bottling on the side (Arbor Brewing, Dragonmead, King). Their selection of bombers, Belgians, and other sixers is easily the best on the Woodward Corridor of Oakland County, and I'll throw in an extra bump in the selection rating since these guys had both Great Divide Fresh Hop and--get this--Avery Mephitopheles!
Holiday Market will undoubtedly my new first stop when looking for a Michigan beer. Highly recommended.

The Holiday Market is a grocery store in Royal Oak that has a excellent selection of beer, wine, and liquor. One long aisle is filled with beer on both sides (six-packs and some bombers). Most well-known craft breweries have a good lineup of their beers on display here (Great Lakes, Bell's, Stone, Rogue, Sam Adams, Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, etc.). A good selection of imports also are available. The workers seemed nice here too. Overall, this is an impressive place to grab some beers if you're in the area.

Its pretty sad that Ive lived in the surrounding area for years and never stopped here. I will certainly say that if you used to frequent Merchants in Royal Oak, less than a mile away on Main Street is this gem of a market. R.J. is the beer guy that took care of me. He saw what was in my basket and My BA Hat and was chomping at the bit to ask if he could help, I indulged of course. Great guy, with tons of information, gave me the inside scoop that Stone and three Floyds are possibily on coming to town.
K.... About the store...First things first: the pricing here is fair, you could cover a lot more than just buying beer here. Great market, hundreds of cheeses & wines. Everything is crammed in and very impressive.
Second: they carry entire or nearly the entire rosters of most brands .. Avery, St. Bernardus, Dogfish Head, Victory, Great lakes, Founders & Rogue are very well represented, bells Oberon keggers sold out all over town, they had 15 cases on the floor! It should be noted that there are several rare and hard to find things. Picked up a bottle of Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA that R.J. had stored in the back room for about a year.
Thrid: Service was thorough and friendly, a solid 5.
Well worth your time to check this place out.

Decided to stop on my way home from Royal Oak Brewery. I was glad that I did. A nice supermarket with all kinds of organic and fresh offerings, it's your typical Royal Oak establishment; until you get to the beer selection. Nice. Lots of belgian imports, as well as a highly respectable offering of Michigan and Regional Brewers (Great Lakes, Victory, Sam Adams, Founders, Bells, Etc. Etc.) Also found some harder to find brews this time of year on hand, and in stock. Most of the stock is well organized on shelves, but there is a nice selection of brews in the adjacent coolers as well. The service was good, as I was greeted when I entered the section, though I didn't require any assistance finding anything. Most suprising is the prices, as they aren't as inflated as I thought I'd find, considering I was in a trendy area. I'll be back when I'm in the area again. Worth stopping in.

Great store, reminds me of a Whole Foods but with a much, much better beer and wine selection, and everything packed into a smaller store.
Quality: First rate, great beers ranging from imports to local to national craft beers. Lots of hard to find stuff as well. Picked up a 4 pack of Founders Kentucky Breakfast, six pack of Bell's Java Stout and Consecrator Doppelbock, a 750 of Jolly Pumpkin's Luciérnaga, and a Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA.
Service: RJ was very knowledgable, very helpful and pointed me to all the good stuff, plus told me about some rarities they had.
Selection: Fantastic selection of both cold and warm stacked beer. Great place.
My only complaint was that they are $1 to several dollars more than most other places. But the service and selection is great. Plus I was on more of a time constraint and they had Kentucky Breakfast which was what I was primarily shopping for.

I stopped here while in town in early January 2006. Layed out as a grocery store, the beer is displayed in an aisle next to wine. Very large selection of Belgians, German, UK, and American micros. Lots of Michigan beers as well.
I found the last 6-pack of Bell's Batch 7000, which was finally gone from all other stores I visited. There were 2 guys working the aisle, each of whom seemed to know a lot about the beer they stocked.
I definitely recommend a stop here if you're in the area. You can find lots of good Michigan beers, and possibly some rare overseas beers too.

The BEST place in the Detroit metro area for beer. Selection is second to none. Ever expanding. Over 800 locals, nationals, Beligians, etc. Constantly getting all the new seasonals. Numerous high end rare beers as well. Shelves are organized by beer location for ease. About 1/4 of the beers are also found in the cooler chilled. Beer rep is RJ, ask for him, he's very knowledgable! The place is actually a gourmet grocery store carrying a great selection of wine, liquor, cheese, pastries, meat, fish, and prepared foods as well. Located just north of I-696 on Main.

Holiday Market is a gourmet type grocery store in Royal Oak. They have one of the best beer selections I have seen for a grocery store. As far as Michigan micros they carry Founder's, Arcadia, New Holland, Bell's, and King's. They have several other micros from Ohio, Colorado, etc. Decent import selection from Germany and Belgium. The only problem with Holiday is that they are expensive. Probably about 10% higher price than you can get elsewhere. However, since they have such a great variety, it would be hard to find a store with both better selection and price.
