I like to come to Holiday Market, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Like other places though, the stock of what I hoped to find by traveling there was alos out of stock. I came looking for a number of beers that I hoped to find (Linenkugel Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout, Dogfish Head 120 Min IPA, and Stone-Chipotle Porter), and they were out of stock on each one. What I did find was acceptable. I would continue to go here to find rare beers.

Atmosphere--the beer area of an upscale grocery store. Space is a little cramped and I'm sure they'd love to have more room. They do a nice job with the space they have.
Quality--you'll occasionally find a past its prime IPA on the shelf, but they generally do a good job of rotating stock.
Service--depending on when you go, the staff can be really busy putting away stock and/or helping others. You may have to track down Ashley, the beer guy, but more often than not he's around and is willing to help you out. Staff seem to really enjoy their job and take pride in what they do.
Selection--probably the best selection in the Detroit area. They get larger allotments of limited releases than just about anywhere else. As others have said, most folks know this, so stuff can go pretty fast (10 cases of BCBS in 10 minutes, with a limit of one 4pk per person). Watch Facebook for postings regarding limited releases. Ashley always handles these fairly and professionally. Also a very good singles section.
Value--very competitive prices.
Overall--if you're looking for something specific this should be your first stop. Best bottle shop in the area.

I go to Holiday Market for most of my beer purchases.
It is a specialty grocery store with a wide variety of all products they sell, and beer is no exception.
They have a good stock of all year-rounds, and they seem to get more of all the seasonals and limited releases than any other store around. However, anyone who likes craft beer in southern oakland county knows this, and so some stuff flys off the shelf just as quick as stores with limited stock. Also they have a good selection of imports (belgian, german, and UK).
The staff that I have encountered always offer help, and are knowledgeable of what beers they should be receiving soon.
Their prices are very competitive. Not quite as low as Champagnes, in Warren, but everything is well within the range I'm willing to pay, and a bit closer to me.

I've lived in the metro-Detroit area all of my life and have never gone to the Holiday Market. During this past Friday's hunt for BCBS I found myself pulling in their parking lot for the first time.
I was told to go in and seek out Ashley, "he is a cool dude!".
After getting lost in isle upon isle of groceries, I found my way to the beer selections. All I could say was wow.
Ashley made the experience too easy. As I looked through all of the beers, I found myself grabbing a 4 of DFH 90 Minute,I'd been wanting to try this for some time. Ashley approached me and said "Are you finding everything okay?", my reply, "I'm sure I'm looking for what everyone else is, you know BCBS." Ashley quickly said "give me one moment" and returned with a beautiful little black labeled bottle of BCBS. He noticed I had ben holding the 90 Minute and asked if I had tried the 120 Minute, I chuckled and said "Nah I haven't seen it anywhere. Unsolicited he walked away again and returned with a bottle of it.
Bottom line ... great customer service and no games. They just want to fairly sell everything they get.

Holiday Market has been a great place to get your everyday craft brews as well as the hard to find releases. As a result of doing so much volume, Holiday often finds themselves getting in the most amount of cases for limited releases.
The nice part about Holiday is the beer guy, Ashley, doesn't play favorites. He doesn't hold beers, he simply posts on Facebook what they have each shipment and then lets you know when its out.
As far as pricing, the pricing of the beers have been one of the best I've seen. No large mark-ups on rare items like some of the smaller party stores. Overall it's an outstanding place.

Holiday Market is located on the south end of Royal Oak on South Main. There is a large parking lot for customers.
The beer section is located in the rear of the store and is cleanly displayed in a couple aisles. The beer is segmented geographically, including by "East Coast", "West Coast" and imports.
As for the beer selection, it numbers in the hundreds with lots of domestic craft breweries like Great Lakes, Keweenaw, Shorts, Dark Horse, New Holland and Saugatuck. Many bombers too from Avery, Goose Island, and Bear Republic too. Many imports to choose from Belgium, the UK, Germany and Canada too. Mixed singles are available as well.
Service is above what you expect from a grocery store. The people working in the beer area were very friendly and courteous and clearly take pride in the display and care of the stock.
Overall this place is my kind of store, reminiscent of favorites like West Point Market in Akron or Hills Market in Columbus. Definitely worth a stop for any beer fan or someone who likes a quality grocer.

This is a fantastic place. I just wish I got down to Royal Oak more often. All of the beer and wine is located in one large area. Beer is in one aisle on both sides. There is one full shelf of bombers and six packs on one rack. Wide array of local and domestic brews from all over represented. There is a short open cooler behind this rack that is filled with a wide variety of six packs. A ton of local stuff, beers that are better kept cold etc. There are a couple more racks next to the domestic shelf and these are loaded with an unprecedented selection of imported beers with stuff like Hanssens and Beer Here represented. On the wall at the end of the aisle there is a whole rack of singles with a wide variety of offerings represented. An especially large amount of local offerings are on that shelf as well. As for quality, it is pretty good. I have checked bottle dates and a lot of stuff is fresh, especially the beer that sits in the cooler. They have a damn good turnover at this store so freshness is pretty much a non-issue IMO.
I don't know much about the service because I usually don't need any, but there is always 1 or 2 guys in the beer/wine area and they are actively answering questions all the time. I have also seen them in the beer section answering style questions and making recommendations to other customers in the store.
Overall this is an outstanding establishment, and I will definitely be back here in the future. Especially if I am looking for some good imported Belgian brews and the like.

This is one of the better places in the Detroit area for craft beer. I stop here pretty frequently to look for new arrivals from Short's and Founders.
It is an upscale grocery store with a nice beer selection. There are around two aisles in the back corner with lots of local Michigan stuff, lots of the typical US distribution (DFH, Stone, Rogue, etc) imports (mostly German, Belgian, and British), a shelf of singles, and a cooler section. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are very typical and reasonable.

On my Royal Oak beer hunt stopped by here after Cloverleaf, awesome these are so close together. This place has two really long rows of beer, mostly Michigan staples with other American craft, didn't see or ignored what international stuff that was there. The selection is pretty good, focused on Michigan but has some of the harder to find ones, a couple rare Jolly Pumpkin, fix Short's, several Dark Horses etc. Some singles but most are 6 packs, so not as accessible as Cloverleaf. Service was decent, seemed busy and more interested in helping regulars than anyone else.
A good store but I wouldn't come here with Cloverleaf so close unless I was getting groceries as well.

After getting this as a suggestion from some Michigan BA's, I stopped in while I was in town last week. It turned out to be an incredible recommendation.
This is set up as a specialty grocery store, with a vast selection of wine and beer as well. Coming from Chicago, I was looking to try out the selections from Short's and other locals, but their overall selection is just incredible. They have a good selection of nationally distributed craft beers, but I was most impressed by the selection of singles. There are no places that really break up six packs into singles around where I live, so I was able to grab a huge selection of beer without committing to a whole pack.
Having a singles selection like this absolutely made the trip worth it for me, but the positives don't stop there. I noticed the prices on some bombers and six packs were cheaper than they would cost at home. The beer is stored far away from light, so I never have to worry about it being lightstruck. Also, they get enough traffic and do enough volume that everything they have in stock seems fresh.
Ashley, their resident beer expert, is just a great guy. He had responded to my thread about places to go with very detailed information, and it was a pleasure to talk beer with him in person at the store. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and has great recommendations.
Holiday just became my regular bottle shop whenever I am in town seeing my cousin, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Overall, just a great experience. Good prices, great beer, great service. I guess you could call me a fan.
