I haven't been to the eastside location, just the one up on North Ave. I moved nearby not long ago, so naturally I tried it out. Not a bad beer selection, but prices are noticeably higher than Five Points Bottle Shop.
But the worst part is that many of the beers are out of date. I don't know if the merch just doesn't move quickly enough or if he is buying crap from the dented can store (heh), but I bough 2 six packs that were 8 months out of date. Without noticing, I tried one and it was awful (and I'd had the beer, Sam Adams Cream Stout, numerous times before).
I went back up there less than half an hour after buying it, and he (yes, Perry, the owner) had a cow about how I might have bought new ones and had out-of-date ones in my fridge which I brought back. Basically, he insinuated that I was somehow trying to cheat him. So I showed him the receipt where I had JUST bought the beer. Then he complained that it was useless because the receipt wasn't itemized, it was just a total. HOW IS THAT MY FAULT???
He had one of his grunts go grab another sixer of the same beer and bring it up to the counter, and lo and behold, it was out-of-date, too! He tried to tell me that it didn't matter because it wasn't an "expiration date, but just a 'best by' date." Uh, aside from the fact that breweries probably put that date on there for a reason, why should I pay full price for something that was only in its best condition 8 months ago? Finally, he graciously allowed me to switch it out for another kind that was still in date. And he took the sixer that they had just checked and put it back in the cooler...
I hardly ever write reviews, good or bad, for restaurants or stores or anything. But this was just an unbelievable experience. If you go in and see a middle-aged, bald white man that acts like he's doing you a favor by letting you shop at his store, you've met Perry.
I now go out of my way to go anywhere but here. I now prefer to get crappy beer from the Piggly Wiggly rather than go here if I'm in a squeeze.

Nice for a small liquor store attached to a gas station. The selection is limited by space, but it is not bad at all. I think the location on Cedar Shoals drive has a little better selection.
The staff is always helpful, especially Perry, who is always willing to sell by the case at a nice discount and order new beers for his customers.
This is my normal on the way home from work package store. Some of the others have a better selection and prices a tiny bit cheaper, but for what it is, Perry's is a good choice.

This store is located on the far east side of town just before you reach the city line.
So picture a Shell gas station with a tiny liquor store attached and that is Perry's (he owns both). There is another Perry's in town but it is far inferior to this one, which is saying a lot.
When you walk in you will immediately get greeted (unless it is crowded) and somebody will usually offer some help if you look like you might need some.
The selection is great for such a tiny place but don't expect too much that you couldn't already find in a good grocery store. There are your usual Belgian selections (all chimays), as well as locals and some other nice brews (mackeson's, yummy!). When this place was less than 2 minutes from my house and on my way home from work it was fantastic. Since I moved I have not returned...

Stopped in while visiting some friends in Athens. Decent sized store, good selection of wine and liquor, but it seemed a little lacking in the beer department. Usual Sierra Nevada, Rogue bombers and locals, but nothing I haven't seen before. Decent imports, but again, nothing new. The employees asked if I needed help and the place was clean and without any expired beers. I ended up buying a couple things but I could've gotten them anywhere. Worth a look if in Athens, but nothing to put too much effort into.

i got lost (sort of) in athens and found this place.
kind of three stores in one. one side is a bud/miller/coors store. the other side is a liqour and micro store.
i have to admit my selection score may be a bit off. they had a lot of things i can't get here (a wide selection of rogue, sweetwater, abita, more). i coulda left with about 4 cases of six packs i had never had before. but i was in a regular cab pickup with an hour plus drive ahead of me so i got 6 sixers and was happy.
all were in a cooler and in date (for those who had them).
the clerks asked several times if i needed help and offered to carry the beer out to the car.
i'd be happy if this store was in my neighborhood. not if i was in the neighborhood the store was in though...
