Bottle poured into my generic curved-rim pint glass. I've had this beer on draft at a bar once before. I liked it. I didn't love it. We'll see how the bottle fairs here.
A: Poured a deep dark dark brown (*almost* black) with virtually no head or carbonation visible. I don't want my oatmeal stout to be heavily carbonated, but the complete lack of *pop* when the bottle released and absence of all bubbles on the pour concerns me.
S: The smell is robust, with roasted malts and a stronger-than-average scent of chocolate readily apparent. I pick up on maybe a touch of coffee as well.
T: Roasted flavors are pronounced. Any "oatmeal" flavor is understated and doesn't arrive until later in the taste. This beer is thinner and "more watery" than I would have expected it to be. That makes it fairly quaffable, but not terribly interesting/memorable. I also can't get past the fact that I think this bottle is a little flat. The "thinness" coupled with the lack of carbonation is detracting for me.
M: Surprisingly light in the mouth, this beer doesn't finish with a strong coating, either.
D: Light and smooth, quite drinkable, but overall this beer lacks any *punch* to it. I'm underwhelmed by it.

12 oz bottle courtesy of tommyguz pours a rich black color with a small tan head. Not much for retention or lace.
Nose is chocolate, black licorice and a little bit of herbal hops. Mildly sweet and has a decent malty aroma.
Taste has a little more oatmeal cookie flavor than the aroma would indicate. More chocolate, less anise and cleans up pretty nice on the finish. Mouthfeel is a bit watery though and not as silky/creamy as most of the style. Pretty easy to drink though. Has a bit of a root beer quality Im not overly fond of...Id probably drink again if someone gave it to me.
