Presentation: 11.2 oz slender brown bottle, on the label has a picture of a snail on a lily pad. No freshness date. Thin layer of off white yeast sediment on the bottle of the bottle was swirled into the brew and decanted in the glass.

Appearance: Densely clouded yellow colour, active carbonation that forms and holds a healthy white lace.

Smell: Evident coriander in the aroma, big on fruitiness and yeast as well. Slightly peppery with suggestions of lemon and orange peel.

Taste: Unbelievably crisp with a slightly slick and flowing mouth feel, moderate body that holds together nicely. A bit coarse upfront with grain and husk followed by a semi-hard carbonation and yeast bite, softens a bit with spicy flavour of coriander and citric peel. Fruity with faint alcoholic ester, trace fruity flavours give a vagueness of ripe pears and mangoes. Hops are meek and only add to balance, touch of wheat malt sweetness in the beginning yet really dries up especially in the finish.

Notes: This is the real stuff, not to say that American brewers don’t do this style justice but they seem too sweet sometimes. This one on the other hand is what a Belgian Wit is supposed to be; dry and yeasty, fruity and spicy with flavours all over the place.

They sure love drawing snails over at Caracole, don't they? This comes from a 330 ml bottle, and on to the beer:

A few chunks of yeast get into the glass with the beer. The color is a toasted orange, topped with a small fuzzy head with decent retention. Visible carbonation bubbles run from bottom to top. The nose is pleasant and slighty tart. There's some blueberry, more blueberry, a little lemon, and vague spice. It works.

Well carbonated (a bit much for my liking) and light bodied, Troublette is more of a fruity witbier than a spicy one. The blueberry from the aroma makes its way to the taste. A leafy hop bitterness appears to be the countering device toward the beer's fruity taste. I've had better for sure, but I've had worse as well. Call it a decent witbier.

Appearance: Hazy medium golden in color, with a modest white head, Thick, chunky lacing
adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is slight, there is moderate sediment as well.

Aroma: Sweet, with notes of coriander and orange rind. There is also a distinct tangy, sour note as well. Also notable is a somewhat rustic note of sour hay and barnyard, similar to a lambic, but far less intense.

Taste: Opens with a rather sharp wheat note, soon followed by a wave of coriander. Soon after, rustic notes appear, sour hay, barnyard, horse blanket, freshly-cut grass, and bitter apple rind. The taste draws to a close with a moderate lactic sour tang.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and very pleasant, with just a hint of zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: An intriguing and off-trail example of the style, well-worth a try.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-five point four ounce brown glass Belgian bomber, sealed with a cork and cage, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Appearance - An extremely bright and vivid yellow. This beer pours clear and is almost certainly filtered. Once out of the bottle, this becomes very active. A constant stream of bubbles race upwards, forming a stationary layer of head. Great lacing, too. This whipped cream head is surprisingly white and stays for a long period of time. Quite impressive!

Smell - Lemon and orange peel come to mind immediately. Lots of yeast of the nose as well. Coriander is also very prominent. There are plenty of sour notes throughout this aroma, and it is impressively intense. Quite complex and sharp to the senses.

Taste - Quite tangy. Coriander, herbs, plants and lemon come to mind immediately. Subtle orange peel with zesty fruit notes. Green apple with a nice acidity. Vanilla is faint, as well as a light and delicious aftertaste of fresh bread. Not sure if it's wheat and another grain I'm tasting, but the malts are rather unique. Perhaps the use of various spices helps to confuse the tongue. Not a very bold flavor, but for a Wit, this is nicely rounded. Sugars are balanced and do not overpower.

Mouthfeel - Velvety and crisp. An impressive use of carbonation; not too much and yet, it still zaps the tongue. It tends to stimulate all parts of the mouth, but mostly the roof and front of the palate. Good feel.

Overall - This is another win for Brasserie Caracole, in my opinion. Although I may tend to favor darker ales (especially when it comes to their Nostradamus), this is an easy drinking beer with class and character. Encompassing many light fruity taste notes and at the same time, subtleties that in some cases, only a beer nerd may pick out, this is a great beer and holds true to its style. Very tasty!

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a slightly cloudy golden amber. Fine white two finger head with good retention and lacing. Constant carbonation, looks nice. Interesting aroma of wheat and lemon with a slightly medicinal or sharp herbal quality; somewhat reminiscent of ginger ale. Flavor also hard to define; wheat, lemon, pineapple, hint of grape and light sweet malt. Fairly complex and interesting, but the flavors are attenuated. Finishes with light, almost watered down malt and wheat. The flavors here are nice and well integrated, but subdued. I'd like to taste this with a bit more intensity. Still an enjoyable and somewhat unusual witbier. Light to medium bodie. I will have this again, as with all the Caracole beers.

Nose: Fruity and funky. Slightly clovely. Hints of orange and black pepper. Just a hint of lactobacillus or something buggy.

Appearance: Very hazy blonde with a frothy, shock-white head.

Taste: Fairly mild. A little clove and wood. Lightly fruity. The finish is semi-fungal and earthy. Very lightly flavored. Thin bodied and effervescent.

Overall: Really nice - very refreshing with a surprising amount of funk for the style, which is quite pleasant.
