Notes:
Scape Goat is our award-winning Pale Ale. It is a very smooth brew, refreshing and well-balanced. Scape Goat took home the Gold Medal from the North American Brewers' Association competitions as the best English-style pale ale brewed west of the Mississippi, but only because it is the best. Scape Goat is brewed with pale, crystal malts, and Kent Goldings and Crystal hops.

Note: I am not a pale ale drinker, normally. However, I appreciate the style, want to learn more, and want to have a beer around that my wife will drink. This is it!
A: Clear, golden copper. Good head with poor retention. Very good lacing.
S: Yeasty with a bit of malt. Some slight fruit esters with a touch of hoppiness.
T: Nice rounded malt flavor with the perfect hop complement for the style. A nice, bitter, well-rounded pale ale.
M: The above mentioned balance creates a tremendous mouthfeel. Feels great on the cheeks and tongue.
D: Great session beer at 4.7%. Something I will keep in my fridge for sure.

Served from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass. A moderate pour produces nearly a one inch thick head, which reduces quickly but leaves about 1/8 inch of creamy froth, which coats the glass in a pattern evocative of a range of snowy mountains. The froth is fed by innumerable little bubble geysers. The color is a honey-golden.
The aroma-flavor is fairly unique, with hop-forward grapefruit-like aromas- but more sweet like a ruby red. I also detect a metallic taste, similar to canned citrus juice (which I love). The beer has a very creamy mouthfeel, as well. The aftertaste is fairly clean, with a malty richness that seems apparent mostly in the burps.
I like the fact that this is obtainable in cans, which are much easier to recycle. If the can lends a little bit of a metallic taste, that doesn't bother me at all.

Part of my tour of new canned craft beers, which have been slowly appearing at my local liquor store.
Pours a nice copper color with two fingers of foam. Some lacing on the glass as I drink it down (standard pint glass). A nice balance between hops and malt - good hop bit up front and nice, mild citrus flavor. Smells malty with a slight tinge of piney hops. All in all a nice pale ale...it's billed as an English style pale ale, and it's closer to that than an APA...but it's definitely an American made English style pale ale but in a good way. A very sessionable ale at only 5% abv. This might be my new go to canned pale ale...much more to my taste than Sierra Nevada canned pale ale.

One snowy, cold-ass day in Missoula the Big Sky Brewing team met to discuss their next brew. The decision had been made, and the Scape Goat Pale Ale was brought into this world. This beer is really not a scape goat, but truly below average. I usually love pale ales but this one was overly bitter and hard to put down, let alone enjoy. I'll pass on the Scape Goat next time.
