Served from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass. A moderate pour produces nearly a one inch thick head, which reduces quickly but leaves about 1/8 inch of creamy froth, which coats the glass in a pattern evocative of a range of snowy mountains. The froth is fed by innumerable little bubble geysers. The color is a honey-golden.

The aroma-flavor is fairly unique, with hop-forward grapefruit-like aromas- but more sweet like a ruby red. I also detect a metallic taste, similar to canned citrus juice (which I love). The beer has a very creamy mouthfeel, as well. The aftertaste is fairly clean, with a malty richness that seems apparent mostly in the burps.

I like the fact that this is obtainable in cans, which are much easier to recycle. If the can lends a little bit of a metallic taste, that doesn't bother me at all.

Part of my tour of new canned craft beers, which have been slowly appearing at my local liquor store.

Pours a nice copper color with two fingers of foam. Some lacing on the glass as I drink it down (standard pint glass). A nice balance between hops and malt - good hop bit up front and nice, mild citrus flavor. Smells malty with a slight tinge of piney hops. All in all a nice pale ale...it's billed as an English style pale ale, and it's closer to that than an APA...but it's definitely an American made English style pale ale but in a good way. A very sessionable ale at only 5% abv. This might be my new go to canned pale ale...much more to my taste than Sierra Nevada canned pale ale.

One snowy, cold-ass day in Missoula the Big Sky Brewing team met to discuss their next brew. The decision had been made, and the Scape Goat Pale Ale was brought into this world. This beer is really not a scape goat, but truly below average. I usually love pale ales but this one was overly bitter and hard to put down, let alone enjoy. I'll pass on the Scape Goat next time.

Can from my Arizona adventure. Beer served in a shaker pint. Beer is brown and mostly clear with a thin tan head of small bubbles, some lacing, moderate retention.

Aroma is malty and sweet.

Beer is mildly bitter, nice finish, no aftertaste, interesting malt make up, Marris Otter maybe, hard to discern. A decent beer but probably not a repeat.

Beer poured from can into a Nonic shaped pint glass

A - Beer pours with a thin white colored head; very well carbonated; body is clear and has a light amber colored body; light-to-moderate amount of lacing formed around the glass

S - Fruity; sweet caramel nose; light floral rose scent; toffee; tapioca pudding; pine

T - Leaves a sour grapefruit lingering taste on the back side of your tongue; tip is sweet and has a nice caramel and pine taste; grassy

M - Bitter aftertaste; effervescent; body is thin and watery; tart

D - Overall, its a very good English Pale Ale; easy to drink and enjoyable; nice floral and pine notes; grapefruit tart feel and sour taste is fantastic

Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear gold amber color with 1/2 inch of white head that had moderate retention and light lace.

The aroma had the malts upfront with some piney hops in the back. The flavors were the same, mostly malt centered, with some nice piney hops and a quick hit of citrus on the end.

The body was a bit fuller than is typical for the style, and the finish was just a wee bit sticky. Drinkability was good, the beer disappeared quickly. Overall, a nice take on the style. A refreshing change from the IPA-Lite" that a lot of APA's suffer from. Certainly worth grabbing a sixer to take on the trails, or out on river with. Viva El Cans!

App: Brown/ apricot, tan head, nice lacing, average retention.

Nose: Soft and clean, yeasty, biscuity, malty, with green herbs.

Taste: Coppery, medicinal, medium carbonation, dry finish. Metallic and mineral.

Notes: Pale ales are difficult to review. This is a very nice pale ale, it is just not to my taste.

Full big off white head leaves a nice lacing above a clear rusty golden colored beer.

A big aroma of citrus hops with lemon in the forefront.

A nice citrus hops taste, the lemon is a little more toned down from the aroma.

A dry aftertaste with some bittering on this medium bodied beer.

A pretty good goat.

This is decent enough ale. Malty and hop tones combine to make a hearty drink. It could stand to have a bit more unique character, or something that would make an impression. Always nice to try a new beer, but I doubt I would ever go back to this one.

Poured from a 12oz can into a weizen glass. Reviewed live.

A- Thick four finger head, cream color. Decent retention. Pale amber color with high clarity. Some frilly lacing.

S- Not a great smell. Overcooked malts.

T- Some sour flavor, little sweetness that juxtaposes in the mouth and is kind of unappealing, unfortunately. Light flavor.

M- Very wet, medium bodied.

O- Meh. Take a walk on this one if you've got a better choice.

Golden color in the big glass. Nice nose of earthy hops. Light body with plenty of flavor.

Hops and lemonade. I was surprised after a big gulp and then checked the category. The English style can be really tasty, and this is a great variation with the big carbonation we like. Finishes with a mineral taste and a nice bitter tang. A pleasant surprise from the people who brought you Moose Drool. Nice addition to the lower alcohol world.

Totally drinkable and worth a try. Bought this as a single 12 oz at Philnor Liquor in Lakewood, Colorado.

A: Pours a mild amber.

S: Grapefruit galore. Hops, earth, and citrus notes are also prevalent.

T: Medium hops and citrus notes. Quickly transitions to a mildly dry, bitter end.

M: Fast transitioning, clean/smooth-- but slightly dry finish.

O: Overall, the beer is just "meh".

Bought a 6-pack of cans with this one.

Pours a clear light amber, generous white head.

Heavy scents of grapefruit and citrus hops, pretty good invitation.

Sweeter taste upfront then I was expecting with a smooth finish with some hoppy bitterness in the background

Light body ale that goes down easy and was a good choice for an easy-drinking summer afternoon. Will turn to this one again.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint.

A: Dark golden hue. Pours about a finger and a half, frothy, white head. Tiny shades of effervescence continue to rise throughout. Eventually settles, but never fully disintegrates. Sporadic, but distinct beer ring lacing.

S: Mossy wood and caramel enhance this maltier than expected nose.

T: Pungent and brassy hop bite, with a slight arboreal tone, and just a hint of sweetness.

M: Pungency settles on the palette and lingers throughout. Dry finish.

D: Easy drinking, but hoppy enough to slow the pace a bit especially as that bite saturates the palette.

Atmosphere is good. Really nice dark golden hue with a solid frothy head, and persistent lacing. Nose is mossy and woody with a bit of sugary caramel or butterscotch. Flavor is hoppy and biting with a bit of malty heft, enhanced with sweet and planty components. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Best by 8/9/12.

Pours a slightly murky honey orange with a 2 inch foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some slight herbal hop aromas. Taste is of citrus zest and herbal hops up front with a malty finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink and pretty refreshing.

Appearance - Pours a semi-clear golden honey color with a white finger width head. The head is quick to dissipate, leaving behind a spotty lace.

Smell - Fruity esters and a mild pepper, with notes of earth and citrus underneath.

Taste - Slight caramel and earthy red apple, balanced out with grassy and subtle citric hops.

Mouthfeel - Light in body, while the carbonation lends itself to a decent bite.

Overall - This is an okay beer. Probably not one I'd buy again, and certainly not something I'd go out of my way to find, but I'd have no problems drinking it if offered.

Can thanks to Beermasons.

Light amber with a respectable white head that leaves touches of lace. Healthy looking bead.

Decent amount of citric hops, mainly tangerine, with some grainy notes and light savoury and toffee malts. Doesn't strike me as English but it's quite okay.

The citrus quickly gives way to a tea-like, metallic and mostly unpleasant palate.

Nice spritzy carbonation, however the drying, metallic bitterness needs flavour in order to work.

Not great. Indifferent malt bill, which for an English Pale Ale seems odd, and unappetising hop character.

Poured into a standard pint glass. The beer is a slightly hazy light copper color. A fluffy pillow of an off-white head sits on top that eventually dissipates to a film of white bubbles. Nice sticky lacing appears all over the glass. The beer smells well balanced, but the bright hops come out the most. The taste is delicious, as it's so very well balanced. Hops abound, but it's the caramel-malt presence in there that adds just the right sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly dry finish.

Overall, another well-rounded beer from Big Sky. I really haven't had a bad beer yet from these folks, and this is just another well-done brew to add to the list.

A- nice lookin can. Mostly clear golden amber with a big rocky white head. Major sticky lace. Absolutely beautiful.

S- crisp American hops. Grapefruit, orange, lemon, passion fruit, mango, and a hint of resin. Pale bready malt backdrop.

T- rounded malt sweetness and tangy citrus. Not overly bitter but a very nice hop flavor. Herbs and fruits, wood and tobacco. Thyme, pineapple, a bit of toffee English flavor for good measure. Finish is pleasant and very well balanced.

MF- on the light end of medium bodied with active carbonation and very refreshing. Resinous feeling with a moderate dryness.

D- insanely drinkable and tasty. If I could get this here in Ohio, it would definitely be a go-to brew. Thanks drew and charlie from Montana do the hook up.

S: Very floral. Like a spring day.
T: Quite bitter. Close to smooth but a little off tasting on the finish.
M: very calm beer. Can certainly let it linger around.

Overall I wasn't very impressed with this beer. It was pretty smooth but the flavor wasn't very pleasing at it left a bitter off putting taste. Other beers from Big Sky show more promise than this one.

I'm always supportive of canned craft brew, but Scape Goat couldn't overcome mediocrity for my taste buds.

It pours a fairly dark "pale" into my pint glass. Closer to orange or amber, but it's a pleasing color with a moderate off-white head that leaves just a few flecks of lace.

I am spoiled and used to the very hoppy aromas of most NW pales. The aromatic hops are subtle citrus, with some some bready malts detectible with some warmth.

Taste is a little more substantial, but nothing out of the ordinary. I like it more than a cheap lager, but just not much oomph or balance, especially considering the dark color of the beer. Not much sweetness in the malts, mostly bread with bittering hops being the most pronounced flavor.

Low carbonation, slick mouthfeel and moderate length on the palate.

Overall, just not impressed. Especially for what you have to pay for it around here. Too bad, I had higher hopes.

Picked up a bottle of this beer at the local liquor store in the pick your sixer section.

A - Poured from undated brown 12oz bottle to a pint glass. The beer pours a bright clear amber color with a 1 finger white head with decent retention and some lacing.

S - The beer is strong in malt character with a sweet biscuit aroma. Not a lot of hope aroma. A bit metallic.

T - Unlike the nose the hop character is more noticeable on the tongue. A bit of lemony citrus character with some floral to boot. The malt presence again is dominant with a lot of caramel malt throughout.

M - The beer is a bit overcarbonated in my opinion which makes for a sharp mouthfeel.

O - A decent beer but just a little better than average.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

12oz can from scotchboy

A: Pours out light copper with real high carbonation. A big billowy head shoots up quickly and dissipates just as fast. Sticky lacing.

S: Mainly caramel and pale malts in the nose along with some sweet bread. Real malty for a pale ale, not in a bad way, in a flavorful but still easy drinking way. Grapefruit, earth, and assorted citrus are there albeit slightly distant. It smells sweet like honey.

T: Starts out with sweet malt, biscuit, and caramel. Vague fruit peaks through mid-drink. The finish is comprised of a palette-cleaning blast of fresh noble hops and citrus, just real crisp and clean. Things seem to work quite alright with each other. I like that they aren't trying to go too bitter with this

M: Light-medium body and zesty carbonation. Goes down very easy.

O: A solid, crisp & clean tasting pale ale. I'm glad to have this change-up from all of the heavy brews I've been drinking lately. I could have several of these in one sitting.
