The Tap House Grill is pretty easy to find, but if you did not know it was there in the Y of the road you would pass right by. There is nothing about the place that makes you want to stop in or that would make you think it is anything more than a dive in a bad neighborhood.

You go inside and it is a pretty quiet bar. I walked into the bar area and saw the Belgians on tap and knew I was home. I opted for a Smuttynose IPA on cask and it was just becoming sour, but that made it interesting. Tomorrow I would not suggest ordering the brew. They had 6 or 7 Belgian taps out of 35, one handpull, and only one crap beer, a PBR. Several VA breweries, but several from out of state as well.

The food was actually pretty darn tasty. They were out of the first item I wanted, but assured me that the rest of the menu was being served. My waitress was working my area and all the outside, but did a decent job although I had to wait a bit long for my first order to be taken. The barmaid was quite alluring, so at least it was dinner and a show.

I'd certainly go back for the selection and the food. The service could have been a bit more stellar, but go in with a relaxed attitude and come out with one as well.

Oh, the menu listed my brews at $4.50 ea, but the waitress had them on the tab at $2 each. Semi-decent service with a cost cutter attitude...see you tomorrow....

Had a meeting there so I decided to show up early and have a few pints. As has been stated earlier it looks a lot like a coffee shop. The building is divided up in 3 parts. A restaurant area that is non smoking. A back room with pool tables , and a bar that has a few tables and where smoking is allowed. I sat at the bar which is a cool looking burnished stainless steel. The bartender gave me a beer list which had about 30-35 taps plus on cask hand pump. On cask was Brooklyn IPA. The rest of the taps were a mix of local, national and international. There were 3 or 4 Rogues, a few Belgians including Lindemans and Corensdonk. Germany was represented by Spaten Lager and Paulaner Hefe. The choices rotate and unfortunately I was there on a night where nothing too exciting except for the Dominion Oak Barrel Stout. This is not a slag, as much as I was just looking for something extremely hoppy and the only thing to be found was Hop Pocket (geez am I jaded or what) The atmosphere is nice and as a smoker I dont worry too much about the smokiness. Food was pretty good with LOTS of vegetarian choices and some up scale food as well as burgers and sandwiches and such. Overall a very nice place to go have a pint or two. I would give it second place in the local rankings right behind the Bier Garden

This is a great place to go get a beer. The atmosphere is laid back. It's nice & dark, just how I like it, and there are decent bands playing here & there. Selection is great, with tons of taps of all types of brews, many hard to find gems. Had an Old Crusty here the other night, which I have NEVER seen in the area. All beer is served in appropriate glassware. There is also a good selection of high tier liqours such as aged scotch - not really my thing but it grabbed my curiosity. To be honest I can't remember eating here so I won't rate the food. Good service with a knowledgeable bartender on duty nearly all the time. One of the best in the area. If you visit hampton roads, this place and the Bier Garden are as good as it gets for beer.
