Pours a mild brown color with a one-finger head into my pint glass. Seems normal.
Aroma is a bit sweet and roasty. Actually, more sweet than anything.
Taste is sweet with caramel and malt showing through the most. Seemingly pretty ordinary but passable.
Mouthfeel is full of sweet malt and caramel that linger. Nothing special but it does go down easily.
Not a bad beer. It may not even be fresh but at least it's still drinkable the way it is. Gotta be good for something after all.

A: Clear amber-brown; a little fizzy off-white head, poor retention, but initially leaves a hint of lace.
S: Tart, grainy aroma; a little caramel and cheap, domestic hops (foral & earthy).
T: Grainy astrigency (over sparged to cut cost?); some caramel that seems to come from crystal malt rather than Vienna-roasted grain. It has the malt colour, but the taste just isn't right. The hops have a nice, subtle spicyness (the hop flavour is certainly better than the aroma). Crisp bitterness (perhaps a little much for the style).
M: Light to moderate body seems thin, but a little syrupy, like it's not all-together. Carbonation is moderately high & prickly.
D: A Vienna should be more drinkable than this.
I prefer the Dos Equis, but a Sam Adam's is even more of a step up from this.

If you are at a Mexican restaurant, please get this instead of Corona. Coppery colored and not very hearty for a darker beer but I can't complain too much, as it went great with my enchiladas.

Color is light brown with some reddish tones around the bottom and edges of the glass, it gained a good sized head but fizzed away like a soda pop with a mist about it. Smells of a more favorably roasted malt then most Mexican beers, but still has some grainy musk and a small hop note. Taste is roasted malt, slightly earthy and musky, but not dull or bad, just there. Its bolder in the malt, not sweet, but around the darker brown style of some nut browns or dark lagers. Has a medium body, smooth and rounded, with a slight hop bitterness in the finish. This was the best of the batch from the others I was givin.
Thanks to Janice who spent all summer traveling in Mexico and brought back quite a load of beers to drink. Nearly a suitcase full. What a great gal, I asked if she could get me a few? Well she just happened to like most of them and really wanting to bring some back.

Cinco de Mayo tour thanks to the COOP. Pours with a decent off white head... the brew is clear darker amber.
Clean toasty maltiness... a bit bready.
Very drinkable... No real flaws.
I should buy this more than once per year.
3.5's across the board.

Slight caramel flavor greets the tongue. Quite spritzy and makes a nice fizzy mouthful. Brownish amber in the glass. Decent head and the carbonation lasts pretty well. It tastes much like adjunct-type lagers though it does have a touch of bitterness. I wouldn't call it a hoppy taste, as there is no hint of floral flavors. Smell is not particularly pleasant, more like beer soaked into a beer mat. Aftertaste is kind of dirty and a little sour, like it has a touch of burnt malt. I used to think this was one of the better Mexican beers, but there's not much to it.

Had this one at a local Mexican restaurant while caSSino was down from Charlotte visiting. Served from bottle into an Anarctic frozen mug. Poured amber with a one finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly (after the head thawed out of course). The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, cream, and wheat. The flavor was of sweet malt, cream, dark chocolate, wheat, and roasted malt. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was an average brew. Really nothing on this one stood out to me at all. I did like how this one had a bit of dark chocolate in it to add some character, but the wheat flavor I got here just didn't impress me at all. Got this as it was ranked as one of the best Mexican brews on the menu according to BA, but I guess I should have gone with a strawberry Margarita like caSSino chose to do...

Comes out of the tap a barely translucent copper-brown with a decent pale tan head. Malty aroma has a fruity hint (but this might have come from the obligatory slice of lime). Flavor is better than I expected, malty and strong with a firm fruity undertone - quite tasty. Texture has good body and plenty of fizz. One of the best Mexican beers I have tried.

Appearance A clear, brown body with a decent head that dropped rather quickly but laced the glass.
Smell Light hints of malt underneath chewy caramel.
Taste This is really good for a Mexican ale. The caramel isnt as strong on the tongue that it is at the nose, but the malt flavor steps up a bit and holds its own. This is not exceptional quality by any means, but the flavors are professional and right along lines with the style.
Mouthfeel Light carbonation, again in keeping with the style.
Drinkability It was a little clumsy going down for me, but this is hands above other Mexican ales that Ive had and quite a respectable offering by Modelo.

Brilliant ruby, very clena, with very few bubbles. Light foam, dirty white in color.
In the smell dark malts, lightly toasted, and caramel. Maybe a bit of red fruit.
Toasty in the taste, with again notes of dark malts, raisins, red fruit. More fruity than in the smell.
Drinkable, but nothing more.
Almost no body. In the aftertaste the red fruits, the maltiness and caramel.

Went to a Mexican Restaurant today for lunch. It was a "proper" one said my work colleague, because it had Mexican beer. He told me I would enjoy it. He proceeded to babble in Spanish before we even sat down and a glass of dark beer arrived right on que. It's looks so reminded me of an atoned version of the dark spicy beer on sale at the U Fleku in Prague, probably the handled Pint Glass, a good start then. But it did look very good, and had a deep brown head. It was a very, very dark brown beer, not quite black on examination. Not much aroma though, probably due to the low temperaure at which it was served (frosted glass - I hate that!!). But oh, so smooth, really smooth, with a better mouthfeel than most dark beers, but yet at the same time it tasted and drank light, weird. Malty start, Chocolate mid-taste and a short mild-bitterness in the finish. Some caramel as it warmed. It went exceptionally well with the spicy food, and I for one will try it again - albeit a bit warmer next though.

Probably the best tasting of the mexican lot....
A-Pours a nice looking medium brown...relatively clear..
S-Mildly sweet...a touch of caramel...also some light toasted malt characteristics
T-Nice mild maltiness highlighted...even milder caramel on the taste....a little earthiness...has some brown ale qualities...
M-Finishes with a little bit of a zippiness most likely from the carbonation...Carbonation is pretty high....body is relatively light which you'd expect with a mexican beer.
D-Pretty decent for what it is...a good drinker in the sun despite its darker color...works as a quencher but also has more flavor than most mexican beers...as a vienna it is not in the league with some of the german versions but I've always considered the mexican vienna's a different beer anyhow...I'll drink this again...

I drank this from the bottle into a pint glass in Puerto Vallarta.
The beer is not what I could consider dark enough to call black so the negra is offputitng. Its more a dark amber with a hint of mud. There was no head and little lacing.
The aroma is ok, there are light malts throughout, reminded me of a bad version of a Boston lager. At the same time its refreshing to drink something different then the standard light mexican beer.

I had this at El Rodeo, a mexican chain recently. Served cold in a frosty glass that I warmed w/ my hands prior to pouring.
A - Dark amber w/ caramel brown shades w/ a bone white head that leaves light lacing on the glass
S - A malty and metallic aroma w/ fruity notes and a gentle woody hop odor. The malt is slightly sweet smelling and has a nutty nose
M - A malty creamy caramel sweet and fruity feel w/ mild carbonation and subtle spice
T- Slight flavors of malt creaminess emerge as it warms w/ subtle stone fruit and hints of nuts. Very mild lager yeast tang w/ a hint of alcohol when closer to room temp
D - Very drinkable lager w/ nice dark malt and mild sweetness overall. The woody hops and toffee like malt w/ milky tinges is very easy to quaff. A very good Mexican beer compared to most I drink this with quesadillas often

This pours a clear deep amber brown with an inch of foam that quickly shrinks to a fine broken layer with some lacing.
The smell is very light. Just a bit of grain mixed with sweet malt.
The taste has light notes of caramel malt and a light hop bitterness, especially in the finish. Very noncomplex beer but...it's a very smooth drinker and it is very easy to put a couple away in short order. It is quite good for what it is so I can't knock it much.

Pours a clear, dark brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Poor retention and poor lacing. Smells of pale malt, sweet malt, and some yeast cleanliness. Fits the style of a Munich Dunkel Lager. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with a high carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt up front, then strong yeast cleanliness, and some very slight roasted malt in the finish. Overall, a rather decent Munich Style Dunkel - I could drink quite a few of these as session beers.

Poured into 10oz pilsner glass. Poured a clean, clear medium brown with about 1/4 inch of just off-white head that instantly dissipated leaving no lacing.
The aroma had a nice grain base and a bit of malt sweetness. The flavors started out nicely malty, a bit sweet and had a nice little hop tang on the finish.
The body was crisp and clean and ended up just shy of full, for the style. Drinkability was very good, the bottle went down easily and quickly. Overall, a nice little example of the style. Worth trying when you see it. This is probably my favorite of the mainstream Mexican brews, it's a decent beer.

Hazy brown body with a thin head. Yeast, some caramel malts and very mild spiciness but mild for the style make up the aroma. Flavor is hard to break down but milk chocolate toffee and caramel are prevalent however not spicy enough for the style.. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nicely smooth. Not terrible but it is what it is.

Pours a mostly clear medium brown color that supports a fine-bubbled dirty-white colored head. Fades at an average clip and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass.
Nutty, toasty caramel malt nose with no hops being discernable. The smell is more pronounced than many Mexican imports, but I am not a huge fan so far.
Nutty flavors really shine in this beer. There is still some toastiness here, but it is a bit more muted than the smell would indicate. Feels like a lager with it's thin body and smooth, crisp character. Highly drinkable and surprisingly refreshing. I can appreciate the craftsmanship of this beer.

A - Pours with a big, two finger head of off-white foam on a clear, amber-brown body. The foam settles slowly and leaves nice, thick lace in its wake.
S - A brown, malty aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, and light roast. Some brown sugar sweetness and just a hint of spicy hops.
T - Sweet caramel malt up front with a little bit of brown sugar. The brown malt character continues through the middle and increases in its roasted quality towards the finish. Lingering cola and caramel sweetness with just a touch of bitterness to balance.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a somewhat sweet finish.
D - This beer has a very nice malt character in the aroma, but the complexity does not carry over well into the flavor. It tastes a lot like a cola product with very little bitterness and a strong caramel sweetness, somewhat reminiscent of slightly flat Dr. Pepper. Certainly not a drain pour and not bad when paired with Mexican food, but it is a bit too sweet and would benefit from an increased hop profile.

The colour is dark amber, the liquid is clear. The quite large white
foam dissolves quite quickly into a thin lid.
The smell is gentle and fruity with a hint of malt and some fresh
hops. There is a small amount of diacetyl.
The carbonation is mild and pleasant.
The taste is quite mild, with a dry and somewhat burned flavour. There is a hint of diacetyl and a small but noticeable bitterness. The
aftertaste is a little bitterer, with a small touch of sweet
liquorice.
This is very mild beer, almost watery, but with a nice "dark" touch.

12 oz bottle poured into a Negra Modelo stem glass that is the same shape as the bottle, just upside-down. Markings on the bottle but no freshness date.
A - Highly carbonated clear dark amber color with an extremely fizzy effervescent tan head. No lacing, no retention.
S - Sweet roasted corn, rice, and some straw. Lightly toasted Vienna malt aroma is secondary to the adjunct aroma.
T - Amber malts in conjunction with sweet corn and dry straw with a touch of caramel. I can tell what it would like to be (and would be good) if it only loosened its grip on the adjuncts.
M - Highly effervescent and light bodied with a sharp carbonation crispness to the finish.
D - It's easily drinkable but not fantastic by at all. Very mediocre in my opinion but it goes down well and doesn't offend.

Poured from the bottle into a tumbler glass.
A simple foamy head off tan light caramel sits on a nice dark brown and red clear chestnut body.
Mild malt toffee bouquet, with a little grass and licorice. Fairly closed though.
Taste is, a basic light malt, simple almost wet texture, and lightly crisp with a small hint of toffee.
Overall this beer never fails me. Nothing fancy, just simple and pleasing.

I remember trying and liking this beer about 10 years ago, I thought I'd try it again and review it this time. 12 ounce bottle. Served in a Sam Adams BL glass, the beer pours a dark copper color with a half inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both OK. It smells like sweet, caramel malt and a bit of spice. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma, but has a little bit of hop bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is light/medium, and with a moderate amount of carbonation. Drinkability is decent too. It's a good beer that's not offensive, has a decent taste to it and is easy to drink. Not a bad choice at all.

Perfectly clear, darkish amber colour. The head is small and shortlived, light tan. No lacing. Slightly effervescent.
The aroma is of darker malts, some light toast and a hint of noble hops. Generally clean with no fruity character. No diacetyl.
Soft malts are dominant. I don't get much bitterness at all though the finish does seems relatively balanced. Fairly dry and clean finish with a light, well balanced aftertaste. I get a hint of skunk which indicates the bottle may have been poorly handled but it isn't highly noticeable. A good, classic Vienna lager.
Medium-light body with moderately-high carbonation. Not as smooth as it could be. Crisp finish. Slight alcoholic warming.
A decent Vienna lager which is easy to drink and does what it is supposed to. The sweetness is possibly a little bit high, and the carbonation definitely is, but overall a decent beer.
