From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue V:
Don't even think about it, get that damn lime away from this beer and pour it into a glass. Just because this beer comes from Mexico does not mean it needs a wedge of citrus to make it taste better.
A wholesome-looking two fingers of head stand at attention for the duration. Deep tawny color is clear and shows off the darkness it possesses. Hints of lemon, toasted bread crust and brown bread in the aroma. Extreme smoothness gently rolls the medium body over the palate. Sweetness from the malt is predominate to start, but slowly drops off as a toasted graininess takes over. Mild hop bitterness has a slight sharpness to it with very little flavor, just bitterness, which is fine as it lets the malt prevail. Semisweet finish with a lingering cloaked caramel maltiness.
Delicious in a simple way. Remember, just say no to limes! Hands down one of the best Mexican beers that has ever crossed the border, legally.

First off get that god damn lime shit away from my beer. Just leave the beer alone, it is just fine the way it is. Put me in any East Boston Mexican-Latin infused eatery or even a decent chain like Chevy's Fresh Tex Mex and I will in rare form with this beer at my side.

Presentation: 12oz custom brown short bottle with a gold foil neck. No freshness date.
Appearance: Clear brown with a semi-creamy, semi-sticky, off-white lace. Tiny carbonation.
Smell: Clean smelling. Faint herbal aroma. Not much else.
Taste: Medium mouthfeel, smooth. Malt flavours a light, watery. Immediate upfront hop snap, mixed with a tight carbonation. Bitterness is quick and sharp. A tad lemony. Brew gets dry at the same point. The combonation of all of this makes it puckering for a moment. A dextrin sweetness pulls through with some grain steely flavours. Secondary hop flavours are herbal/tea-like, as the beer warms. Finishes rather clean.
Notes: An average example of the Dark American Lager style. No more, no less. An excellent complement to any Mexican meal.

bottle to a goblet
A: Dark brown and beautiful red in more intense light. bubbly head dissipates quickly to a thin splotchy film on the surface and around the edge of the glass.
S: smells like it looks. dark and heavy smell of roastiness and chocolate
T: sweet chocolate from first sip through to the finish. roasty and warming
M: strange combination. almost watery but there's a chewiness and lasting, resinous mouthfeel as well.
O: I've had this beer many times at Mexican restaurants. and really, it's perfect with that food, the chocolatey sweetness perfectly complements the spices. standing alone I feel it lacks complexity and body. but it is definitely drinkable and a good beer.
