Went there for dinner last week while in Montreal on business. Sat in their heated and covered patio on a cool night, it was quite comfortable. Service started a little slow as our waitress was spending a long time talking with some other customers, but after we got her attention the service was great the rest of the night. This was a Wednesday night and they were not busy at all.

Beer selection is excellent with a number of lesser known at least to me Belgian and local beers, along with many others from around the world. The waitress said they had over 100 different beers and the beer menu backed that up.

The food on the other hand was below average, at least for what the 3 of us tried. I had the oyster soup which I quite enjoyed, but then had the mussels as the main course. Got a huge bowl of them that I could not finish. They were ok but nothing special. One of the guys ordered the calamari and we all agreed it had too much breading. Prices were on the high side and the beer especially was expensive with the Maredsous 8 I ordered coming in at about $9 a bottle. It was served in the proper branded glass however.

Great atmosphere in Old Montreal but I would try someplace else next time.

Stopped by last weekend after hearing good things about the beer selection.
My girlfriend and I were seated on the patio on a moderately busy saturday afternoon. We looked at the beer menu for 5 minutes and decided what we wanted.

I was unaware that what I really wanted was to be ignored for twenty minutes, but thats what i got. Oh, and I wasn't the only one.

I counted no less that five other patio tables which were seated after us, looking around for the vaguest sign of life from one of the three waitresses working the patio. Nothing. Nada. The staff was more concerned with chatting amongst themselves than doing their jobs.

After a nice, long, thirsty wait we got up and left.

Absolutely poor establishment with reprehensible service.

Avoid this tourist-trap filth hole at all costs.

Located on Place de Jacques Cartier, near the old port area, on a bustling boulevard in the heart of Old Montreal. What a beautiful place.

I visited in December, so there was obviously no outdoor seating. The interior was bright and shiny (glass, stainless steel). The bar was located on the left hand side and was small and cramped, but in the cafe style. The atmosphere was very French, and the bar service was no different. All of the beers were served in its proper glassware, something I wish they would do more of in the United States.

There were 4 or so beers on draft and a pretty extensive bottle list. I had a Boreale selection, which I would later learn were pretty common in Montreal.

The prices were pretty steep. I believe $10 CAN per pint. I did not try the food. The service was very friendly.

Gotta love being in old Montreal. Sitting outside on the street is a wonderful thing. Oyster bar is some good stuff. Huge beer list from Quebec and beyond! Of the dozen different beers that have come to my table during visits to Le Fripon, every one of them was served in the brewer's glass. Be careful about prices though. My parents ordered Stella on draft and it came to $11/pint canadian! Stick with Canadian beer to be safe or ask for prices. One of my favorite places in Montreal.
