A sentimental brew for me, as my cousin treated me to this beer for my birthday while I was in Australia. Poured on tap at the Australian Heritage Hotel and paired with a crocodile pizza. Hazy orange with a razor-thin head. A lot going on in this beer, with biscuit, lemon, and oranges the most prominent. Leaves a lingering bite of bitterness. Crisp and sessionable.

On tap at the Little Creatures Dining Hall. From notes.

A - Poured hazy, dark gold. One finger of fluffy white head left great rings of lace and a finger of retention.

S - Citrus, pears, rich grapefruit, a floral note and a light malt character.

T - Citrus, tropical fruit, floral notes, bread, a yeast character in the finish which really takes over aggressively.

M - Strong carbonation. Medium body and a dry finish.

O/D - Their menu says the beer is live-yeast conditioned and you can vertainly tell. It plays too big a part in the flavour profile. If it were not conditioned like that, the hops would shine alot more and create a much better flavour profile. All that said, it's still a fairly solid pale ale and probably one of the better examples of the style from Australia, it just needs to kick the yeast flavour.

Cylinder glass at the Riverview, Balmain.

Poured a lightish golden colour with a slight haze to it. White head that was a finger in depth and stayed at half that while lacing on the way down.

Smell has passionfruit, grapefruit, citrus all working beautifully well together and they come in that order.

Taste has the grapefruit is decent measures along with caramel, which helps back it up.

Nice body, good bitterness from front to the finish. Still quite sessionable.

I've been super impressed with this on tap lately...less so with the bottled version. Hoppy, flavoursome, very drinkable and widely available for Australian craft. Hard to beat for a go to craft beer.

Had a pint of this at the Cornish Arms, Brunswick, Victoria.

Pours a great golden amber with a light and near white head.

A light and complex smell with initial citrus through to a passionfruit and even hints of melon.

The taste is where a more caramel sweetness comes through from the malt with the citrus still there to continue the great combinations. A medium bitterness comes through to round off the first mouthful perfectly.

A medium body feel with sufficient amount of carbonation to agree with the citrus from the nose and taste.

Overall a fabulous taste with the balance on everything working in harmony. A complex drink to be savoured.... but very hard not to just gulp it down as it just so damn drinkable.

Fresh pint at the Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle.

A - Rich, hazy light amber. Thin white head, ample lacing.

S - Clean and fruity. Citrusy hops dominate.

T - Not a huge amount of depth but o so delicious. Heavy on the ripe passionfruit with a malt backing. Less hops than the most applauded pale ales make it very accessible.

M - Lively carbonation and a light to medium body.

O - So easy to drink. Dont be tempted to try anything else here at the brewery, especially the pilsner, just stick with this little ripper and you wont be sorry.

Pours straw gold. Nice pure white, dense, head. Well marked lacings to the finish.

Very grassy hops on the nose with some pretty strong citrus zest thrown in for good measure.

Not quite sure what to think of this one taste-wise. Perhaps not a fan of the hop profile. Starts off pretty clean with honey sweetness. Hops are citrus zest but with a not so subtle astringency running through. Good crisp finish though.

It's totally drinkable, a good session ale, but not sure the hopping is for me.

Aussie Aussie Oye Oye Oye!!! This pale ale is subtle but very nice!!! LCBC did a fine job in constructing this gem of a malted refreshment! The light Amber color with white foam head and perfect lacing give way to a mild citrus/hop aroma. This all culminates to a beautiful tasting montage of wonderful. The mouthfeel and drinkability of this fine ale will be equal to the legend of John Cook himself!!! Stay thirsty my friends!

Great beer, tried at little creatures brewery in Fremantle.. Great with food and poors a great head. Full of flavour but not to harsh on the pallet. Recommend for a beer with dinner or even just a social after work drink.. Have tried in bottle form and beer is just as good as on tap.

20oz Imperial Pint
Appearance- A massive thick wispy, suddies head, that retained for the full session. The body was an IPA orange, that thickly laced down the glass.
Smell - Sweet and Bitter Orange and Grapefruit Notes. A full on experience that almost overwhelms the sweet carmel malt.
Taste- Sweet Hops that have a heavy mouthfeel that is reflected in the nose. The malt is rather upfront because its sweet and very slightly bitter at the end. The hops dominate just as they should in the style. As the beer nears the bottom of the glass, it acquires a piney taste from the hops.
Mouthfeel- Moderatly Carbonated, It has a heavy mouthfeel for an APA but its appropriate for the heavy dose of hops. Very Smooth and gradual finish.
Drinkability- Sweet and really nice especially considering the high doses of hops.

This is the best APA I have had and wish I had more time in Australia to track down the rest of the LC line.

On tap at Narrabeen Sands

a) Heavily persistent head formation courtesy of Headmaster schooner glass. Hazy orange glow. Head persists to the end leaving sudsy dregs.

s) Citrus, tropical fruit. It seems more leaning towards the latter than as I recall.

f) Nice balanced malt profile, with good bitterness in support. Citrus & seeds.

m) Not the same mouthfeel that I get from the bottle. Maybe the recipe has altered

d) On-tap ale of choice. Hard to find though, but worth the effort.

The bottled is great and having on tap is a rare treat. I've had it on draught at many pubs and really enjoyed it. The only strange thing is it isn't quite as good at the brewery in Fremantle for some reason.

The taste profile is enjoyably complex with touches of citrus, orange and lemon all falling over one another. There is a nice amount of carbonation for an ale (as opposed to hand pulled english ales).

This little beauty is seems to be a unique cross between an American and an English Pale ale. Honed to perfection!

I discovered this beer in a local pub in Melbourne. Cloudy appearance and chamomile flavor dominates the palate. I haven't had the same pleasure from bottle. So I'm just enjoying this if I find it on tap. There are not much decent Australian beer but I wouldn't say no, comparing other local ales.

on tap at the Australian Hotel, The Rocks - Sydney

appearance: served in an imperial pint...a hazy copper orange body with a nice hue and a light foamy froth

smell: aroma is of fresh hops which suggest "american ipa" to me...peach/citrus aromas as well

taste: definitely the best beer i have sampled thus far in australia (though wine has been ordered in a 5:1 ratio to beer at this point)...a nice hoppy citrus body with crisp lemon and a nice floral characteristic...definitely a winner, even by "american ipa" standards

mouthfeel: smooth and fresh

drinkability: very good

Draught version is more cloudy than bottle, but more subdued on hops aroma.

Still got a strong hops/citrus nose though.

Maltiness is subdued and comes through late in a faint backbone.

Hop driven and spritzy with a light mouth feel and citric(grape fruit) zing.

almost too sweet for me but borderline on IBU''s.

Bottled version is more quenching than tap IMHO.

Little Creatures Pale Ale – Brunswick Hotel
After six months of visiting random pubs in Melbourne, this is the first time I’ve seen Little Creatures on tap. I’ve enjoyed a few bottles of it in the past so was delighted to see it on draught.
Appearance - It pours a golden straw colour with decent head. Lacing might be a bit below average.
Smell – Citrus, coriander, and sweetness of malt rule the nose.
Taste – Good stuff. Nice citrus hop bite up front, then a transition to sweet malt, then back to a little bitterness. There are lots of things going on here, but it’s a well balanced, drinkable brew. They could label this an IPA and get away with it.
Mouthfeel – a little overly carbonated on my particular pour, but otherwise it’s a quite drinkable, smooth brew. Gimme another!

A beautiful looking beer. A clear, dark amber colour, with a good solid white head. Lacing sticks to the glass all the way down.

Wonderful sweet nose, definitely some aniseed spiciness and tropical fruits like mangos bananas and peaches. A heaven-scent (haha) aroma.

Very fine taste as well, complex and rich, punctuated by yeasty notes and floral hop bitterness. The after taste is very smooth, leaving you feeling refreshed and satisfied.

Yes, this is a very fine beer.

Tatsed somewhere in Sydney...

Pours a cooper- tinged yellow with white head. Hey- what's that smell- there's a little Cascade- ish citrus in there, that shows up in the taste as well. A little light on the malt flavors, though. Mouthfeel is pretty nice; on the light side, which I like with this hop flavor. Also, they didn't use a heavy hand on the bittering hops. Easy to knock back one of these on a cool Sunday night at the pub.

Overall, pretty nice. It tastes a bit like Sierra Nevada Ale's kid brother...

A: Gold with a bubbly white head.

S: Tropical fruit and a weird metallic smell.

T: Mango and other tropical fruits (not overly pronounced but pleasant) mixed with a lager-like corn/metallic flavour.

O: I first had this at the brewpub in Freemantle and it tasted great but in 40°C heat what beer doesn't? The few times I've had it outside Australia it hasn't been good. I know this is brewed for the Australian lager drinking public but that's still no excuse for the metallic/corn flavour.

Fresh 16 oz bottle while in Sydney. This is a remarkable pale ale. It pours a hazy golden orange and provides nice lacing as it goes down. The aroma is lemon and tropical fruit (reminds me of some citra-hopped beers I've brewed). The flavor follows the aroma nicely with light malt sweetness, some mango and well played bitterness. Finish is nice, clean and dry.

I love this pale ale.

Pours slightly cloudy amber. Very delicate nose of yeast and lemon. Same sort of flavors on the palate, with just a bit of pleasant bitterness and a touch of acidity reminiscent of light Belgian ales. The body is a bit thin and averagely carbonated. Not too much in the excitement department though. The aftertaste is mostly a pleasant refreshing bitterness on the top of the mouth.

Gold with a light orange hue, nice white head subsides w/o lace.

Seriously fruity aroma: nectarine, tangerine, candied pineapple, mango.

Pleasant amount of fruit in the flavour as well, solid bitterness, not the least bit harsh.

Well-attenuated with a crisp, dry finish. A bit more bubbly than I'd prefer.

Overall, a really nice drinker. The hops from the southern hemisphere are a nice change.

Thanks to Momar42 for the bottle! 330 mL bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy golden color with a lot of vibrant-looking carbonation. The head isn't terribly impressive; it's a one finger eggshell color that fades fairly quickly. The lacing is good, though.

S: I'm noticing that it blends both English and American sensibilities toward the style - this definitely doesn't seem like another SNPA clone (not like that's a bad thing). The malt profile seems to be very toffee forward, with strong tones of earth, caramel, and biscuit. There's also an underlying quality of Cascade hops, providing grapefruit peel, pine, and black pepper.

T: There's a nice balance of hop/malt interplay here. Hops don't seem evident on the first sip, but after another swig, they provide a light grapefruit finish that's quite pleasant. Otherwise, it's mildly sweet with its malt profile, especially in the middle of the palate. I won't call it a standout, but its delicate balance still manages to set it a notch above many pales.

M: The carbonation could really be toned down slightly to help the soft texture of the malts shine through more clearly. On the plus side, it helps lighten up the initially thick body. It has an almost 'nectary' feel provided by the combination of malty sweetness and subtle hop resin.

O: This really is the kind of offering that could single handedly change the perception of Australian beer around the world. The bottle conditioning and great malt backbone means I wouldn't have many reservations if I ever found this in a local shop a few months old, though I wouldn't make it my first choice to seek out. Little Creatures Pale Ale - Australian for Real Beer.

Pours a nice, medium golden colour with a thumb sized, bubbly white head that halves in size and leaves bits of lace on the side of the glass as it does so.

Quite fresh smelling with some grassy hops and a background caramel malt aroma that hints at some sweetness. There are a few malts present along with some citrus and a hint of bitterness at the end.

Sweet malts and caramel upfront with some toffee and a nice helping of bitterness. There is a biscuit malt flavour in there and some light grapefruit, nothing too strong but noticeable nonetheless. There is also a few hops coming through around the middle and some light, tropical fruits.

Lively carbonation to begin with a lot of sweetness hitting upfront. The body is about medium and the beer is pretty well balanced overall.

Just as good at the first time I tried it. This one is an excellent session beer and one that I am quite partial to any time I spot it out and about. It always goes down well.

One of a handful of beers carefully packed and lovingly transported to my door from Sydney by some very thoughtful friends. This one is a solid if unspectacular pale ale that struck me as pretty traditional and middle-of-the-road, not in terms of quality, but in terms of approach. It's not an uber hoppy IPA-light like so many contemporary American pales; instead it has a fresh hoppiness well balanced by its malt and keeps the bitterness in check.

Pours a shimmering gold, nearly clear, with a sizeable white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Top notch appearance, and it's actually somewhat pale and not dark gold or amber like so many in this style these days. Aroma combines citrusy, grapefruit and grass hop notes with a mildly sweet biscuity malt character; this continues in the flavor, which goes right down the middle between the hops and the malt and ends up on a dry note with little lingering bitterness.

Medium-light body, medium carbonation, a bit lively, but still smooth overall in the feel. Quite nice but not exceptional; perhaps it's my American palate but I could have used more bright hoppy flavors in addition to, not in lieu of, the tasty biscuit malts.
