Thanks to Momar42 for the bottle! 330 mL bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy golden color with a lot of vibrant-looking carbonation. The head isn't terribly impressive; it's a one finger eggshell color that fades fairly quickly. The lacing is good, though.

S: I'm noticing that it blends both English and American sensibilities toward the style - this definitely doesn't seem like another SNPA clone (not like that's a bad thing). The malt profile seems to be very toffee forward, with strong tones of earth, caramel, and biscuit. There's also an underlying quality of Cascade hops, providing grapefruit peel, pine, and black pepper.

T: There's a nice balance of hop/malt interplay here. Hops don't seem evident on the first sip, but after another swig, they provide a light grapefruit finish that's quite pleasant. Otherwise, it's mildly sweet with its malt profile, especially in the middle of the palate. I won't call it a standout, but its delicate balance still manages to set it a notch above many pales.

M: The carbonation could really be toned down slightly to help the soft texture of the malts shine through more clearly. On the plus side, it helps lighten up the initially thick body. It has an almost 'nectary' feel provided by the combination of malty sweetness and subtle hop resin.

O: This really is the kind of offering that could single handedly change the perception of Australian beer around the world. The bottle conditioning and great malt backbone means I wouldn't have many reservations if I ever found this in a local shop a few months old, though I wouldn't make it my first choice to seek out. Fresh 16 oz bottle while in Sydney. This is a remarkable pale ale. It pours a hazy golden orange and provides nice lacing as it goes down. The aroma is lemon and tropical fruit (reminds me of some citra-hopped beers I've brewed). The flavor follows the aroma nicely with light malt sweetness, some mango and well played bitterness. Finish is nice, clean and dry.

I love this pale ale.

Pours slightly cloudy amber. Very delicate nose of yeast and lemon. Same sort of flavors on the palate, with just a bit of pleasant bitterness and a touch of acidity reminiscent of light Belgian ales. The body is a bit thin and averagely carbonated. Not too much in the excitement department though. The aftertaste is mostly a pleasant refreshing bitterness on the top of the mouth.

Gold with a light orange hue, nice white head subsides w/o lace.

Seriously fruity aroma: nectarine, tangerine, candied pineapple, mango.

Pleasant amount of fruit in the flavour as well, solid bitterness, not the least bit harsh.

Well-attenuated with a crisp, dry finish. A bit more bubbly than I'd prefer.

Overall, a really nice drinker. The hops from the southern hemisphere are a nice change.

A sentimental brew for me, as my cousin treated me to this beer for my birthday while I was in Australia. Poured on tap at the Australian Heritage Hotel and paired with a crocodile pizza. Hazy orange with a razor-thin head. A lot going on in this beer, with biscuit, lemon, and oranges the most prominent. Leaves a lingering bite of bitterness. Crisp and sessionable.

Pours a nice, medium golden colour with a thumb sized, bubbly white head that halves in size and leaves bits of lace on the side of the glass as it does so.

Quite fresh smelling with some grassy hops and a background caramel malt aroma that hints at some sweetness. There are a few malts present along with some citrus and a hint of bitterness at the end.

Sweet malts and caramel upfront with some toffee and a nice helping of bitterness. There is a biscuit malt flavour in there and some light grapefruit, nothing too strong but noticeable nonetheless. There is also a few hops coming through around the middle and some light, tropical fruits.

Lively carbonation to begin with a lot of sweetness hitting upfront. The body is about medium and the beer is pretty well balanced overall.

Just as good at the first time I tried it. This one is an excellent session beer and one that I am quite partial to any time I spot it out and about. It always goes down well.

One of a handful of beers carefully packed and lovingly transported to my door from Sydney by some very thoughtful friends. This one is a solid if unspectacular pale ale that struck me as pretty traditional and middle-of-the-road, not in terms of quality, but in terms of approach. It's not an uber hoppy IPA-light like so many contemporary American pales; instead it has a fresh hoppiness well balanced by its malt and keeps the bitterness in check.

Pours a shimmering gold, nearly clear, with a sizeable white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Top notch appearance, and it's actually somewhat pale and not dark gold or amber like so many in this style these days. Aroma combines citrusy, grapefruit and grass hop notes with a mildly sweet biscuity malt character; this continues in the flavor, which goes right down the middle between the hops and the malt and ends up on a dry note with little lingering bitterness.

Medium-light body, medium carbonation, a bit lively, but still smooth overall in the feel. Quite nice but not exceptional; perhaps it's my American palate but I could have used more bright hoppy flavors in addition to, not in lieu of, the tasty biscuit malts.

Bottle from Luvian's Bottleshop, St. Andrews. Pours a nice medium gold, with good lacing retention. Good colour. Head goes down pretty quick.

Smell has pleasant fresh hops, good malt presence, is quite inviting and balanced. Nice, fresh and has character, and I like the hops.

Taste has sweet malt with a nice hop bitterness, which is slightly chewy. More richness develops afterward. Some bitterness to it, but pretty rounded. Pretty standard taste profile for an APA, with no flaws and a light, balanced flavour, I get some of the nice sweet vanilla note on the end, which is quite rich.

Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, carbonation is light but very refreshing. It is excellently drinkable. Finish is dry and medium full.

Pretty traditional styling, maybe a little extra hops, but these are tasty and integrated well. Excellent and refreshing beer. A great beer in the lighter category and worth a try.

Poured into a highball glass

A: Golden brown and pleasantly cloudy. Surprisingly low head with little lacing.

S: Malty with a good measure of hops. Just a touch of citrus at the edges.

T: Slightly malty with a great balance of hops and citrus. There is a nice bitterness in the aftertaste like orange skin, with a hint of grass and lingering hops. The tastes in this beer don’t linger for very long though. It kind of just slips away, leaving a hint of rather pleasant grassy, honey taste in the mouth

M: Light to decent mouthfeel with some carbonation. Rather pleasant.

O: Very nicely balanced beer. I don’t usually like lighter beers, but this one is very nice. There is a good presence of malt balanced nicely by the hops. A very easy beer to drink. Great for a night out with friends where you need an easy beer that isn’t bland.
