Notes:
This medium-bodied Ale is characterized by its rich, chewy sweetness. The interplay of seven different malts produces a slight toffee and chocolate flavor. This is the beer to choose if you’ve never tried dark beer before. A ChopHouse staff favorite.

A- Poured from the tap with a well-retained, creamy meringue-like light tan head... which produced some incredibly sticky lacing on the sides of the glass... over an optically clear, garnet-tinged, medium brown body, which was heavily carbonated.
S- The aroma is wonderfully husky and malty, with (low and behold) some nutty aromas. Subtle impressions of dry cocoa, and a very mild earthy hop aroma in almost perfect balance with the malt.
T- The flavor overall is a let-down. I'm getting essentially the same impressions on the palate, but they've almost been muted by an over-riding flavor of dirty water (slightly metallic and earthy).
M- Medium-plus body, creaminess imparted by a soft carbonation. A fair amount of texture from presumed unattenuated sugar. No astringency. Impressive.
D- Quaffable in large quantities.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate brown color with an off white head and a small amount of lacing. The nose is a moderate amount of malt plus some small notes of toffee and caramel. A bit of light nutty character. The taste is moderately malty without too much going on. The feel is fairly light with nice balance. Drinks fairly well, but is fairly ordinary.

Poured a dark brown, just this side of opaque. I'd say what I found to be a solid color and look for beer itself made up a bit for a slightly disappointing head. Very light tan, it was one of those heads that seemingly needs to be coaxed out of the beer. Multi-sized bubbles. Doesn't display very good retention, settling to a whispy cap, but does show pretty good lacing.
A roasted malt nose, grainy. Coffee. Roasted peanut butter.
More nutty in flavor than in the nose. Peanuts, roasted grains and coffee carry over from the aroma to the taste. A more full nut "profile," though, beyond peanuts. A bit of chocolate. The slight but distinct coffee grain taste carries throughout, accentuated by bittering at the end. Slight citrus hop notes.
Middling carbonation, I feel it could use a touch more to crispen up the feel a bit. Drinks fairly heavily and definitely finishes heavily, with a thick aftertaste that diminishes drinkability a bit.

A surprisingly tasty nut brown ale from District Chophouse.
Pours a nice clear brown with a thin white head.
Smell is nicely malty with a solid hint of dark chocolate.
Taste is very nice as well. A bit of roasty goodness is the most memorable feature.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin but not unpleasant. A nice sessionable beer.
Don't drink brown ales a lot but this is a pretty respectale one.

So-so drinkable brown enjoyed at the brewpub. Brewed with Saaz hops, and a sourness is tasted from this. The aroma is malty, including chocolate malt. Like a dunkel. With lace. Not enjoyable mouthfeel, the hops the temperature, whatever. Not much of anything.

Enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub.
Served as a deep amber-brown colored beer with mosderate off-white head, Good Retention.
Smell is loaded with caramel, with some nitty notes also present.
Very flavorful and smooth, with an expansion of the caramel tastes.
A bit thin in the mouth with a rapid loos of flavor.
Very drinkable. Would be nice to session.

A dark brown color with a minimal frothy head but no lacings. A malty smell is readily apparent, but nothing sticks out too much. A sweet, full-bodied ale that is extra smooth and well-balanced. Toffee/coffee malts are very pronounced, with chocolate in there for good measure and I wonder if they added caramel or some dark citric to give the beer its smoothness. Not really a dry finish like some other brown ales, but this is a damn good beer nonetheless.

The second beer I've had at the District ChopHouse and again it was served too cold. Something should be done about this. Takes some warming up to fully appreciate the beers I've had there. Sigh.
Poured a deep dark brown color with some reddish hues that shine through when the beer is held up to the light. Produces a thin off-white head which settles well but left little-to-no lace. The aroma is a nice toffee/chocolate/coffee smell with some dark fruit thrown in for good measure. Very pleasant and distinctive, but subtle and not overwhelming. The taste is smooth up front, with some malty dark fruit flavors. I almost got a dark cherry sensation at first sip. It mellows out a bit when it warms up and gives off a nutty taste with a baker's chocolate bitterness. The mouthfeel is nothing great, but it does give a nice crisp finish. Overall, not a bad beer. In the year of brown ales, this is a nice addition. Still, there are better versions of the style out there to be enjoyed.

On tap at the District brewpub; Dark, dark brown with a milky froth of a top. Rich and sweetly malty with a bit of a chocolately finish, with an almost a raisiny aspect. Tad bit on the light side of a body, but an enjoyable dark ale. (#2778, 4/7/2007)

Appearance: dark brown with an almost purple tint to it, off-white head, some lacing.
Smell: a touch of cocoa, with some nuttiness. not a whole lot.
Taste: Cocoa, nuttiness, more bitter than I expected. Not bad.
Mouthfeel: smooth, no carbonation complaints, light-medium body.
Drinkability: I don't think it paired as well with the lamb as I'd hoped - I needed something with a bit more oomph to stand up to all of the strong flavors going on in the lamb, but it wasn't bad.

A: Reddish brown with almost no head.
S: Not very strong. Very malty with cashew.
T: Very malty. Biscuit and sourdough bread, with a few earthy hops thrown in.
M: Too carbonated to be smooth, not thick enough to be chunky. Interesting mouthfeel, but not unpleasant.
D: I would much rather have the bourbon stout, but it is an acceptable compliment to it. Would prefer to drink after a better beer. Altogether, it is not a great brown ale.

Served on tap at the brewery. Nut brown colored brew with some amber highlihgts. Clingy tan head with loads of lacing on the side of the glass. All caramel and malt on the nose.
Hearty, chewy malt brew. Reminded me of the "toucan" brew that brewery Lauer made with Olivers. Bready, toffee, caramel, and just a wisp of chocolate on the finish. No hops to speak of.
Chewy mouthfeel and drinkable as all get out.

Brown in color with a short 1/2" head. Some light lacing develops. The aroma is of simple malts and a soft nuttiness. The flavor is light toasted hazelnuts, caramel, toffee, and finishes with a wisp of chocolate. The flavors are not overpowering, but simple and well balanced.
The mouthfeel is lightly crisp at the start. The finish has some light nuttiness that rides the tongue. Medium body. Nice drinkability if you like to have a few nut browns in an afternoon.
