i use to like this place a few years ago. ive gone on the tour plenty of times, and even tho i practically had the thing memorized i still enjoyed it most of the time.
however, my last two experiences with this place is enough to turn me off from lakefront forever. i dont know what happened to them, but their employees and their service have gone way down hill. they tours are now over crowded as they try to jam too many people into one tour. on my last visit to lakefront, the tour guide was terrible, tried too hard to be funny (and wasnt at all), was condescending as he "educated" some of the touree's (the information he gave them was incorrect too), and just did not do a good job being a tour guide.
the beer is good, but its not great. not the best in the city, and no where near the best in the state. its not worth it to me to support this brewery anymore given the service they are offering now. theres plenty of other local and wisconsin breweries that i can support that still care about their customers.
i will still go to the fish fry tho, as its one of, if not the best, in the city.

Went on the tour for the first time with friends coming in to visit Milwaukee. The place had a strange lay out. Bathrooms were hard to find a tucked away through the tiny, crowded gift shop. The bar and bar area was huge, with plenty of space to sit before the tour. I like the fact you can use any of your 4 beer tokens before the tour. Lots of brewery tour wait till after tour to give you beer. Here you bring your beer with you on the tour and they even give you a re-fill in the middle of the tour. I did like the tour. It was a little crowded, but the owner/tour guide shared good knowledge and was pretty good. The building is an old powerhouse right on the river with lots of character. The tour was only $7 per, which is good compared to others. I just found the bartenders kind of unfriendly and the the flow of the customer areas awkward. They had no food or snacks which I thought was pretty lame. Finally, they had about 5 beers to choose from at the bar, none of the beers I wanted to try from this brewer. I was satisfied with the tour, but wanted more from the beer and the staff. So So!

Visited for both a tour and some beer tasting.
The tour was terrible. The tour guide tried too hard to be funny and it seemed like the goal was to say as much sexual innuendo as possible rather than educating us on the brewery, the beer and the brewing process. We were taken down to the floor of the brewery and "greeted" by a couple of the brewers who were seemed pissed off to see the tour (yet they have them daily at this exact time) and they were rude.
The tasting room itself was huge with about 5 or 6 beers on tap and a number of other offerings in bottles. I tried the IPA and the coffee stout, both of which were very good.
I would drink Waterfront beer again but I am not sure that I would want to do so at the brewery.
Tour price was $7 and included 4 tastings and a pint glass, which was cool.

Visited both the brewery and the restaurant the day after Christmas. I figured everone would be returning terrible gifts. I was wrong.. This place was SLAMMED. The tour was great and much more informational than most. The tastes at the end are a nice touch, although I am not much of a fan of Lakefront beers. It was tough to move around upstairs. Again, it may have been because of the day. If business is like this everyday, they won't be effected by the economy. It is well worth the trip if you are in the Milwaukee area.

This brewery was the second of four I toured in my first day in Milwaukee. I was very relieved that I had purchased one of the few "select tickets available on line for advanced purchase" as the line for the 12:50 tour was probably a half hour long (about a third of the way down the ramp. Upon leaving the line was to the end of the ramp. I would recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time too or get there way early.
The tour it's self was a blast! The tour guide was well educated, humorous, and entertaining. Not the most educational tour but well balanced in Milwaukee beer, baseball, and Laverne and Shirley history as well as brewing.
The beer was delicious! My favorite was the Riverwest Stein Beer, I picked up a sixer from the gift shop along with my "free" pint glass. The beer is, apparently, distributed throughout greater Milwaukee so I picked up another sixer and a sixer of their IPA to bring home.
I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting (or living in) Milwaukee. But heed my advice pre-purchase your tickets or get there at least 45 min to an hour early to buy your tickets.

I stopped here on a Saturday evening on a day where a whole bunch of tours were done, mine being one of the last. The guide seemed a little tipsy, and while Bernie Brewer's shack and the Laverne and Shirley bottling line has a certain amount of charm, how things were packaged had unfortunately a sort of juvenile feel to them. Information about the brewing process was presented, although not as extensively as other brewery tours. Still the people are very nice there and for the most part their beers are solid. Even though they are not my favorite brewery, I would go back to see if the vibe has changed, as I've heard their fish frys on Friday nights are outstanding.

I was very impressed with my visit to the Lakefront brewery. The establishment is cool, the beers arent bad, and the tour is entertaining.
Lakefront is in a huge old building in the Riverwest neighborhood along the river. You start off (after paying) in a large room sampling, unlike any other tour Ive been on where a sample comes afterwards.
The tour was conducted by John (Zutz?) whom I recognized (he is very recognizable) from the Blessing of the Bock festival he led and organized a few weeks back. He was funny and interesting.
You drink as you tour, and afterwards there are more samples. Quite nice.

Went specifically for the once-a-week environmental tour with the President. Jam packed tour, lots of people doing the Riverwalk brewery thing. Very large place, and lots of staff helped ease the crush, as well as the slightly laid back nature of the locals. Corny tour, but hey we like corny jokes. very generous with pouring lots of beers on tap to taste. Very nice area with tables in back to complete the tour. A good deal, lots of tours available. One bartender really knew his stuff and that's the one I stayed near for recommendations and knowledge.

This is the best brewery tour in Milwaukee. You're greeted as you eneter and asked for your I.D. and $5.00. That's if you can get their early enough. I've gotten there before and been turned away because all the tours throughout the day had been filled up.
The $5.00 gets a pint glass, and 4 drink tokens. As you make your way to the bar you'll find several beers on tap. You get an 8 oz pour with each token. Try not to use up all your tokens before the tour starts because there's another tap-stand halfway through the tour for refills. When the tour is finished hang out with friends, while making new ones, in their warehouse of a bar/dining room.
Make sure you try the Eastside Dark. Its a fan favorite!

I went for the tour and I was quite impressed. You get four tokens for four pours of your choice, and the best part is that you can request a bottle if they don't have your pleasure on tap. The tour was interesting, but perhaps just a tad too long...maybe I have a short attention span. You also get a pint glass at the end. One recommendation is avoid the last tour of the day. They sort of rushed us out right after the tour and I still had a token left over (thankfully I traded it in for a bottle to-go just in time!) Cute part of town too.
