12 oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a short-lived off-white head and crazy carbonation. Aroma is of fermented apple juice and hint of peppery hops. Body is medium and tangy. Taste is caramel malt and peppery hops. Finish is long and spicy. There is something wrong with this bottle.

A: The crown has some blistering under the plastic so this might be an old bottle. A medium copper with a slight haze. The light tan head dissipates after a minute, but that might be a result of this glass having gone through the dishwasher with the jet-dry, surfactants and all.

S: Moderate malt and dark fruit aromas of raisins and plums with moderate crust bread melanoidins. No hops and no alcohol aromas.

T: Moderately-strong malt flavor with moderate crusty bread and plum flavors. There is a moderately light hops bitterness that is about about even with the sweetness putting the balances in the middle. The finish is off dry and the aftertaste is of malt and dark bread crust. There are no signs of oxidation but the flavors seem flat.

M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: A middle of the road bock with muted flavors that might be due to this being a little old. The balance between the bitterness and the malt sweetness is nice.

Dark reddish amber in the glass. Foam dissipates quite rapidly along with most of the carbonation. Aroma of old fruit crates left in the garage.

An overripe melon tossed in with the dishwater. Dosed with sweet vermouth. A touch of metal shaving. Maybe another splash of seawater with some seaweed. Ahhhh... perfect.

I can't believe how many years they've been making this swill and, to give Lakefront the benefit of the doubt, they still can't get the quality control figured out. Label says bottled in JAN in WK3, but they don't say what year. Purchased at Total Wine, thanks, guys.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – red color, pretty clear, with about half a finger’s worth of creamy white foam that dissipates quickly.

Smell – hearty and malty in general. No particular notes of anything special, at least nothing very evident.

Taste – much like the smell, hearty and malty, with a tinsy bit of a bite in the late middle of the taste. Has almost an oatmeal type of quality to the taste. Interesting and nice.

Mouthfeel – very well-balanced. If anything, it leans a little on the creamy side.

Overall – nothing super special about this beer, at least nothing new or thought-provoking (that I can tell), but it is a very good-tasting beer overall.

This beer poured a reddish-brown, with no to very little head. I felt the taste, at the beginning, was crisp to slightly sweet. As the beer warmed slightly, crispness faded. The smell was honey-like. This beer had a full flavor, robust yet refreshing. Seemed lighter than other bocks I have had. I could not taste or feel the alcohol warmth, although the ABV is 6.7 percent. Overall, a beer that is on the upper end of good, and one that enjoyed and will try again.

A: Pours a dark bronze color with a decent head that fades to some lacing.

S: Aroma of roasted malt, some caramel sweetness and bit of spice.

T: Flavor of roasted malt with caramel sweetness and bit of vanilla. Mild bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Fairly medium body, smooth and somewhat creamy. As it warmed, it seemed to become more robust.

O: Nice beer, quite good for the style. Worth visiting again when I get a chance.

Bottled 2/2012.

Pours a murky brown with a 1/2 inch dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and some brown sugar aromas. Taste is of toasted malt, brown sugar, and some slight caramel flavors on the finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but nothing that really grabs my attention and would make me want another.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
Bottled during Mar Wk 2 (2012) notched on the label.

A - A tall pour created a massive tan head that ended up settling to a loose, soapy ivory pile. The color is a brilliantly clear and carbonation-less dark bronzy amber. A ring of thick clumpy lace was left.

S - Lightly toasted malts are primarily caramel-sweet with a hearty pilsner scent. Crisp and clean, there is a low hop noble hop aroma that follows as well as a touch of light, lingering alcohol.

T - Smooth, clean malts populate the taste buds with lightly dry pilsner flavor overshadowed by toasted caramel malts with a moderate sweetness. Noble hop spice gently prickles the tongue on the finish.

M - Like a nicely lagered bock should be, this medium-full bodied beer is ultra smooth and clean with a mild sweetness that turns dry in the end.

O - For the malt-lovers out there, this bock is another easy drinking, very well made lager from Lakefront that features loads of toast and caramel sweet malts with just enough balance to keep it from being cloying. Smooth and drinkable, there's a faint warming sensation of alcohol for those cooler spring evenings.

Reviewed from tasting notes.

Mahogany color with a flash-in-the-pan head and no real lacing to speak of. Smells and tastes of a toffee malt with decent nuttiness and light presences of milk chocolate. Garnish levels of fruity yeast esters (stone fruit) exists in the background as well. Creamy, smooth medium-heavy body with gentle carbonation. It is difficult to find something to criticize but I do feel that it suffers somewhat from a lack of 'toasted' character. Other than that, it is a somewhat better than average Bock.
