Clear copper appearance. Pale head, slightly wanting and settling to a skim early. Nice ropy ring laces, however. Light apple skin aroma, honeyish tones as well. Caramel in its purest form makes up the initial taste, matched well by good moderate carbonation and a light but pleasant mouthfeel. Good balancing hop snap to the finish, in the style of Hallertau. Futher sips reveal a touch of popcorn buttery diacetyl, works well in its moderation. A very drinkable beer here, one of the best I've had from Lakefront, which seems to shine in Lager-style brews.

been ages since i had a beer from lakefront. they kind of fizzled out in the places ive lived where their beer used to get sent, but i guess they are still alive and well in milwaukee, good for them. this one is pretty pedestrian, a basic amber lager, but sweet to me, overly malty even in a malty style, a little cheap and watered down too, metallic as it warms, best when its ice cold, but even then i wouldnt call it a clean lager, and overall this ended up leaving a bit to be desired. copper colored and high headed, just off from full clarity but close, simple looking, appealing. the aroma is understated, generic malty, sweet, hints of brown sugar, chestnut, and minerals if i am being nice, cheap almost extract malt and metal if im not, very subtly european lager yeast character, faint smoke, sort of an autumnal profile but lighter than it looks. it takes on a copper pennies thing as it warms, but when its cold it has a light herbal hop note on top of simple heavier crystal and kilned malts, light english and german grain character too to me, nutty but mellow enough still to be approachable fully. it doesnt quite have the body for what its trying to be, and with scare huge bubble carbonation, it felt watered down to me where i had it. fine with spicy and salty foods, maybe even enhaced by them, but on its own a lackluster malty beer that hits part old school fat tire, part toasty vienna lager, and homebrew kit beer. old school in a way that im also kind of saying its a relic of a bygone ara of craft, not enough attention to detail to be considered good by current standards. i liked the other lakefront beer i had while recently in wisconsin quite a bit better...

Appearance: Pours a completely clear, bronze to amber color with a moderate white head. SRM of 15. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of rich bread, brown bread, rich amber malts. Some honey. (3.75)

Flavor: Strong flavors of rich bread, honey. Mild amber malts with some toasted notes. Smooth honey to finish. (3.75)

Feel: Medium to heavier bodied, average carbonation. Malty and leans sweet. (3.50)

Compared to Humble Forager Hidden Headwaters 1/28/2023: Pours similar, milder head. Milder aromas. More rich bread and honey. Less roasted amber malt, cherry, flowers. Winner: Humble Forager

Compared to New Glarus Cabin Fever 2/2023: Pours darker, milder head. Stronger aromas. More floral and toasted notes. Less smooth honey.

Compared to Surly Oktoberfest 2/2023: Pours darker, similar aromas. Slightly more amber and toasted. Less smooth honey and floral sweetness. Similar.

Compared to Great Lakes Eliot Ness 2/2023: Pours lighter, similar head. Stronger aromas. More honey and bread. Less toasted and amber notes. Similar sweetness, less hoppy. Slightly maltier.

Overall: An okay Amber ale here. Rich bread malt, toasted, with a honey sweetness. Didn't have a whole lot of roasted flavors which would have helped. Mostly honey which is pleasant. The honey evolves as it warms, some floral notes too. Have to let this one warm a bit, but it grows on me. (Rating: 3.73)
*Would compare to Dortmunder Gold*

I am a huge fan of the label and all that MKE jazz. The bottle tasted flat, not a lot of foam action. "A muddy puddle on a dirt road" a fellow observer described the beer as....

On tap at Oscar's Alehouse in Milwaukee. Toasty, caramel malt with lightly bitter, lightly citrusy hops. Great beer to pair with fried cheese curds and a burger on a cold December afternoon.

Look - poured from a 12 oz. can into a standard pint glass. amber/copper in color, hazy, with a small frothy head that mostly dissipates, leaving behind moderate lacing.

Smell - strong malt scent with moderate sweetness, complemented by caramel and a bit of dried fruits.

Taste - robust malt flavor with light tartness. moderate hops also come through in the taste, and finish is relatively clean.

Feel - medium bodied, average carbonation, and pretty standard on ABV at 5.7%.

Overall - an interesting, refreshing hazy amber lager with more complex notes but remains easy drinking.
