Notes:
A full-bodied, traditional IPA, well balanced with a healthy dose of English hops. Reminiscent of “historical” Knoxville IPA’s.

What you'd expect in an IPA. Golden pale color with moderate head.
Smell of floral hoppiness.
Taste is a good hop kick but not overpowering. Strong, yet smooth wallop of hops with no strong aftertaste.
The feel was smooth and on the crisp side.
Very drinkable. I'll have another.

Draft. Good for a brewpub. Big fish, small pond brew. Nothing unique, but hoppy enough to remember. And while this is a beer review forum, I feel compelled to say that the atmosphere is worth the stop alone. We came in from Pigeon Forge while on vacation and walked into Live Jazz Sunday Brunch. Food was stellar!
*This place has phenomenal 1 and 2L growlers with Grolsch-style tops! A must-have if you don't already!

I had this on tap at the brewpub, in a pint glass. It was a bit of a disappointment to me, sort of a bitter English IPA with little in the way of hoppy character. Otherwise not much to note about it. Clear, golden color, decent head, etc etc. The body was maybe a little fuller than usual for an IPA, that was the highpoint for me. But the lingering bitterness left me wanting something else. Not bad per se, just kind of middling.

Growler. Poured a clear, golden color with a medium white head. Strong lacing. Pleasant citrus aroma with a hint a sweet malt to it. Mouthfeel is nice. Flavor is a pleasant hoppy taste. Citrus is very apparent, with a nice sweet caramel touch to it. Finish has a pine taste to it. A nice brewpub IPA.

First off this is not a double IPA but rather is just a regular single IPA. It poured a nice pale amber with a good frothy white head and some side glass lace. The aroma was fresh, nice floral hops with a touch of sweetness. The flavor was a touch muted, somewhat thin, but still quite decent. The finish was very nice and I actually seemed to like this more as time went on. Overall not a bad IPA, but I have had better, needs a little more depth to make it special.

I closed out the night with their most popular beer.
It poured a nice copper wih a 1/4" head. The bartenders need to stand the glass up sooner to produce a bigger head in my opinion.
The smell was clearly a hoppy one.
WOW.... I thought the porter was hoppy.... this one blew my doors off (in a good way). Heavy on the hops but typical of a good quality IPA. Other minor taste additions were a pine, citrus that enhanced the bitterness.
This is a full-bodied beer that lets you know who's boss.
Overall, I would definately have this again... perhaps just one or two a night would be enough.

Got this at the Brewery...
Appearance: copper with a half inch white head (great looking)
Smell: lots of hops; good smell; no mustiness
Taste: this is a great beer; very hoppy; no fruitiness as some IPAs have
Mouthfeel: medium to full bodied
Drinkability: had two in a night
Overall, a very impressive beer. This was a nice treat to start off my trip in Knoxville.

This is the staple brew for the Downtown Brewery and Grill. And it should be. It's the best beer they serve. It's everything that you'd want in an IPA, and little that you wouldn't. A good hop-heavy balance between bitter and sweet, citrusy and smooth, malty and piney. It heald a nice head retention and adequately carbonated. Lacing well and releasing a strong grapefruit and pine boquet. Very nice and assertive flavors of a medium caramel / bready malt base and very spicy hops. Not over the top, but nicely balanced. Bigger than moderate in the body with a sweet, dry finish. Very nice.

On my way to Chicago, we stayed in Knoxville, I was also told by the server that this was the most popular beer. The style it is listed as is wrong though, this is an American IPA, not a double.
That being said, I am glad the people of Tennessee have taste because this was my favorite beer as well and it had a great hop aroma and flavor. Extremely drinkable well made beer.
Restaurant is very big and food was more than acceptable for the pub fare we ordered.

The beer arrived at the table a medium goldern with a white persistent head which laced the glass.
The aroma was citrusy hops even though the desciption was English hops. There was also a slight fruitiness.
The flavor was earthy English hop flavor and bitterness with caramel.
The finish was dry with a lasting hop impression into the aftertaste. The body was medium.
A nice beer.
The server said the IPA was the highest alcohol beer she served. I did not sense that at all. She also said this was their best selling beer.
