Bottle: Poured a dirty hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of rustic Belgian malt base with some herbal notes clearly identifiable. Taste is also dominated by rustic malt base with some unique herbal notes with light peppery yeast notes. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Another superb creation from Fantome.

Shared with JLindros and company at the last whale tasting. Reviewed from notes

A - Poured into my Kate the Great tulip a hazy golden hue with a light one finger head that fades to leave a thin cloud.

S - Nice light citrus notes here, super earthy with nice light farmhouse funk. Very floral and aromatic.

T - Taste is more of that citrus pith with light earthy notes and good soft grassy hops. Good light farmhouse funk and a nice dry finish.

M - Mouthfeel is nice and sharp and crisp. Solid.

O - Overall a solid beer. A hoppier fantome beer is nicer than I expected. Solid offering that I was glad I got to enjoy.

750ml corked, capped and foiled wrapped bottle. (The difference in batch 1 and 2's appearance is the color of the foil. Batch 1 has black foil, Batch 2 has gold foil.) Poured into my matching Fantome tulip, the brew fills the glass with nothing but forthy white heady foam. Even a slow pour could not stop this brew from erupting inside the glass. It takes 3-4 steady slow pours to fill the glass with this clear golden orange colored solution. Bubbles of carbonation constantly rise through solution maintaining a finger of froth atop. A full curtain of lace sticks to the glassware.

The aroma is fruity with a hint of something along the lines of peaches, pears, apricots or pineapple. Really it is quite tropical and very enjoyable with a mild peppery spice that is more like green bell peppers at first and it then morphs into freshly crushed black pepper. The fruited quality also changes from tropical essence into something more along the lines of lemon. All across the board though, despite the characteristics I mentioned above, there is still an underlying familiar fantome yeast character which ties everything together.

The taste is mildly tart with an immediate hint of of lemony essence. This brew really tastes similar to the classic Fantome Saison but with stepped up tartness and lemony essence. The peppery quality is like freshly crushed black pepper mixed with a hint of green bell peppers but instead of being really spicy black pepper and mixed with clove like you typically find this style, this brew has a very mellow but lasting black pepper flavor. The aftertaste includes mild hints of earth and then focuses back on some of the tropical fruit flavors: mostly apricot, pear and then more lemon. It isn't until I completely empty my first glass of this brew that the 10% alcohol is felt across the back of the throat.

This is a medium bodied brew with an effervescent and over-carbonated look to it. However, once you get it to settle into your glass, it has a rich and thicker/smoother than expected feel and the carbonation does not feel out of place, it keeps the brew light and lively inside the mouth. The 10% alcohol is so well integrated and hidden inside this brew that it makes this beer dangerous. Without restraint I could down this bottle in no time. I really wish this brew was made more readily available and at a cheaper price. Holy shit is it a winner in my book. For not really fully enjoying batch 2, this first batch is killer. Consider this a perpetual want in my book if offered to me I will never say no to this.

Thanks to Xenon for sharing (don't remember your BA name, sorry).

Pours a big fluffy head of 1+ finger, decent lacing, hazy blond orange color.

Nose brings golden Belgian malts, fluffy, light farmhouse funk, plenty saison aromas, hint of grassy hops, light typical saison spices. Quite floral and aromatic.

Taste brings earthy hops at first, sweet malts, light grassy herbal hop flavors with an earthy bitterness, semi sweet saison malt flavors with a light farmhouse funk, quite earthy. Finish is semi bitter and dry, light funk and saison spices lingering.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, good carb.

Overall pretty good, nice saison flavors, bit of farmhouse funk, dry and very earthy, with more hops than I expected too.

Thanks for sharing! Snifter.

A: Dark orange with a monstrous white head.

S: Lots of apricot with strong floral aromatics. Lemon zest blends with orange and pepper. Light coriander and notes of apple, white grape, and peach.

T: Tart with Chardonnay grape and pronounced oak. Lemon, peach, apricot. Lightly peppery. Rustic and earthy.

M. Medium body with very high carbonation. Very dry mouthfeel.

Overall: Very good. This drank like a beer half its ABV.

Appearance: hazy peach/apricot, more opaque than the standard fantom offering. Not much head or lacing

Smell: Very similar to the standard fantome offering, light malts, golden fruits, lemon grass, earth, hay and funk light

Taste: Tastes like the standard fantome offering with the malt bill increased by about 75%. Light malts, citrus and golden fruits, hay and earth.

Mouthfeel: a bit full, very light carbonation

Overall: I think the bigger body detracts somewhat from this otherwise excellent beer.

Bottle from Etre Gourmet. Served in a Fantome tulip.

Pours bronze with a nice off-white head and fairly-good retention. A bit of lacing as it goes down. The nose starts with a bit of light bready malt and then falls into familiar Fantôme territory, with some nice peach and tropical-fruit aromas, followed by a slight bit of must and earth.

The flavor hasn't quite caught up with the nose in terms of the Fantôme funk. The fruitiness of the nose is there, though not quite as much of that musty farmhouse character Fantôme is known for. It's starting to develop, but I'd say this one probably needs a bit more time for the yeast to take over a bit. Body is medium and a bit chewy with good carbonation. Overall, very solid and something I look forward to revisiting.

Purchased from Etre Gourmet. Shared with a few friends, 750 mL foiled topped, capped and corked Armand'4 style bottle.

Pours a cloudy peach, darker than the regular Fantome saison poured next to it. Thin, wispy off white head fades to a thin ring of bubbles. Aroma has a strong fruity peach and lemon presence, balanced by straw, hay, grain and pale malt. Not as citrusy as sweet as the fresh Fantome. Flavor tastes like the regular saison with the malt doubled. Peach and strawberry with a strong pale malt and straw backbone. Not particularly earthy and funk hasn't started to develop in this yet. Lighter side of medium body, with effervescent carbonation and a grainy, dry finish. Fresh, this tastes like an "imperial" version of the fresh saison; aged this might be interesting.
