2009 bottle, Red letters, shared by Brandon - thanks, man!
Pours a cloudy mandarin orange. Nice head sticks around for a bit before subsiding. This is a great looking beer.
Smells amazing. Fresh cut apples, strawberry, yeast.
Taste is so perfect! I wish we could rate batches of Fantome, as Danny makes some of the best beers ever, but every once in a while a bad-ish batch shows up (probably more due to the trip across the pond than his craftsmanship). After being a bit dissapointed with the last black label batch I picked up, I am thrilled to report the red letters batch is the bomb. Sour apple, puckering sour watermelon, strawberry and peach all sit atop a flawless light malt body, sealed into one cohesive flavor ride by the classic Fantome yeast. Mild spices and a slight cork flavor, but it all makes it better!! More and more flavors in the same vein emerge as this warms up.
Carb is lively as it should be for a lighter, fruity saison. Body is perfect.
Drinkability is off the charts. This is a killer beer, one of the best in the world, and something I will always keep a bottle or 20 on hand. World class, glad to finally start rating these Fantomes - I have a closet full just waiting to be rated :)

2012 vintage...
A: Pours a nice cloudy straw yellow with a huge amount of pure white head that takes forever to settle. A rocky layer of bubbles lines the beer, and there is really good lacing as it drinks.
S: The nose is light malt, spice, bitters, and yeast. It smells inviting with citrus and grains.
T: It starts off with a light sweetness and grass. As it moves to the middle the bitters begin to shine as it mixes with some yeast and spice. I get lemon, grass, and yeast. The finish is spicy and drying with lingering bitters.
M: Medium bodied beer. It’s refreshing to start as the beer coats the palate. It’s bright, but yeasty and a touch stinging in the middle. The finish is spice and yeast.
O: Very nice saison. I quite enjoyed this one. I’d love to drink this again.

Whaaa!
Oh my gosh, I did not like the taste at all! Wow, this bottle I had must've been a really bad one... I guess I'm getting what people describe it as "band aid" smell and taste. Wow! I can't believe I spent $14 on this bottle and I have another unopened bottle waiting to be drain poured!
All in all, it looked great, but the rest was just bad. I am really disappointed. Saison Rue disappointed me and this saison disappointed me even more!
Hoping to pay this another visit later on.
