This has a different ABV than the other pissenlit entry for fantome, so I have entered this as a new beer. If this is in error, please merge with the previous, noting that this is the 7.5% limited version. Label is different than that pictured for previous entry as well. As usual with fantome I have no actual idea what style is, so selected saison.

This is from the summer 2006 charity auction shelton brothers had. only 20 bottles, no idea what to expect - small-batch brew from this very talented brewer. No cork here, just a crown cap.

Pours with a large tan head which fills half the glass, this beer is dark red and a bit cloudy.

Nose has strong notes of what seems like coriander; this reminds me of a barley-wine smell more than anything, with a belgian twist to it. (actually it reminds me of traquair jacobite with a belgian yeasty odor).

very lightly burnt bitter malty notes dominate the initial taste, with notes which leave a good bit of sourness into the aftertaste. the maltiness is candy-like to some degree as well. there is some background sense of 'fantome barnyard' here but it is secondary. this initial taste leave afternotes more like a barleywine or more malty beverage than is normal for fantome.

Further into the bottle the hops become more prominent as the palate discounts the malty overwhelming initial taste.

In the end I feel like I am drinking a super-hopped barleywine, where the hops are those typical of belgian rather than british beer but the effect is similar.

I would be curious to see the brewer's own ideas or notes about this batch.
