A: Pours light golden with a few, but large bubbles in the liquid. A small white head dissipates rather fast, leaving only little lacings.
S: Lots of bready pilsener malt, a bit dry, but still sweet. Some spices and nice bitter hops.
T: The balance between the bitter hops, as well as the florals and the malt is really nice.
M: Dry bitter aftertaste lasts for a long time. Body is medium and the carbonation is rich but very smooth.
D: This is a really nice German Pilsener - I'm getting myself a whole case, next time in Germany.

I had the good fortune to tour the Rostocker brewery in Rostock Germany this past summer. The adjacent "Braukeller" (beer cellar) serves up fresh, cold Rostock beer and hot, soft pretzels. I was able to enjoy three cold ones (and one hot pretzel) before it was time to move on.
The beer arrived cold and smelled slightly hoppy, It had a lovely clear, golden straw color with a half inch head of white foam. The beer was slightly bitter and went down smoothly. The first tasted like a second and the second tasted like a third. Each was satisfying and left my palate clean and ready for another.
Rostocker beer is the main beer in the town of Rostock (and I assume the immediate surrounding area). The brewery sponsors many of the summer social events and Rostock beer billboards can be seen on every corner. It was hard to find another beer in this town. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The locals have a good locally brewed beer and they tell me they like the beer and like the brewery behind it.
Rostock is a lovely city. It was destroyed during WWII and then spent a few decades as part of East Germany before being integrated into the Germany of today. Today the city is alive and improving. I was told by several locals that Rostock has a ways to go to reach parity with more prosperous parts of Germany. At least they have a good beer to start with.

I received this from a non-beer advocating buddy of mine who is a ships agent. The captain of one of his ships was so pleased with him, that he gave him a case of Rostocker Pilsner. My buddy is not a fan of the beer- but he likes his beer served in brown bottles with Miller Light on the label... and thats good for me!
A- This beer pours a light gold, with a white head that quickly recedes. Only a few faint lacing marks on the glass show where the head once was. Carbonation is visible. Brew is very clear.
S- Slightly spicy nose that is distantly reminiscent of a Saison? (odd).
T- Noble hops jump right out and blend in with a light malt. Very pleasing to the pallete. The beer finishes slightly bitter.
M- Light body, good carbonation
D- Goes down easy. Nice summer beer.

Courtesy of my flatmate's sister, this bottle is hand-carried from Greifswald, NE Germany. Coming in a slim 500ml brown bottle, BB 11/07, served chilled in a weizen glass.
A: pale straw in colour, poured with a thick, creamy white head that slowly breaks down and leaves dirty, sparse stains of laces behind; constant flows of semi-lively carbonation in action. Looking really lively and nice.
S: a clean floral scent and distinctive doughy sourness come hand in hand; a bed of juicy grainy maltiness plays a significant part in retaining a balance overall. Very clean, balanced, and fresh.
T: the taste goes extensively bitterly-hoppy from the first second onwards, bringing aboard lots of subtle aroma of floral & herbal hops, while the muted flavour of lager malts assumes a rather subdued role, sometimes in the form of a rather "plastic" type of dryish palate and sometimes as popcorn's undernote. The lingering aftertaste is grassy, bitter, and very dry.
M&D: the mouthfeel benefits as much from the light but sufficient fizziness and the rather chewy hop bitterness, as from the sound lagering process that renders a crisp and clean palate overall. All in all, this is a reasonable North German pils, thirst quenching albeit not complex.
