Large 500ml silver can with a shadowy image of the Petra Treasury. Red "petra" echoes the slogan "The taste of the rosy city". Ingredients listed as water, malted barley and hops. Hopefully we're off to a good start with this.
Syrupy goldon colour, with a huge amount of carbonation. Pretty nice fine-bubbled sticky white head leaves excellent lacing. The masses of carbonation make me a little wary, but otherwise it looks pretty good.
Sugary, herby nose, predominantly sweet, almost to the point of being like candy floss. It is tempered by a very slight aroma of citrus or crushed dried herbs. Maybe thyme or true mint. But yeah. Very, very sweet.
Taste is unfortunately heavily based on an unpleasant wet yeast flavour, which creeps up after the initial sweetness on the front palate. Also a fair amount of alcohol showing, probably not that surprising given the ABV and the lack of body, but it ends up being quite unpleasant. Tastes a lot stronger than it is, too, with an unwelcome booze warmth on the back of your throat.
But hey, it's got character, and at least it's not another bland, sluggable Arabic lager.
