Do you enjoy those off-the-wall places that can be described as, say, "very low key?" If so, then it's off to Manhattan Pizza, which is a pizzeria/beer bar that invites all ages - though mostly of college age, of which your truly is not - to enjoy hearty, but reasonably priced Italian cuisine (pizza, subs, calzone and appetizers) alongside a nice selection of beer. This being Vermont, the many regional quaffs are also represented, including Rock Art, Switchback and Long Trail.
It does have a rustic appearance; the bar area is a large single room with several packed tables spread amidst wobbly high tops. In the back, there is a pool table - this is quite prevalent in Vermont. While Manhattan Pizza is about as far from intimate and romantic as one can get, it still provides for a comfortable evening of great beer, decent food and some well chosen music.
Since there is no table service, you must order from end of the bar; a number is shortly placed on your table, and soon the food arrives. Did I mention that it was "low key?" In any case, it is much better than the Three Needs, which was the next stop. (See Review.)

I've been here a handful of times now and it's really a decent place. If you're getting a pizza they're usually pretty good, I haven't had anything else but for a drunken pizza it's awesome. For what they are, they've got quite an awesome beer selection. A variety of your standard macros (pbr, bud light, etc) but they also usually have some good craft brews (rock art, rogue, trout river, long trail, etc) mainly VT beers which is nice but the occasional larger out of state micro.
They play their music kinda loud for me, but they've got pool a couple arcade games, big screen TVs with ESPN (It's real fun when there's a Sox or Pats game on). I think it's a pretty decent bar to go with a couple buddies, have a beer and a slice or two.
Now if you're in the area, and you're a BA... skip it, go two blocks away to American flatbread, you'll get better 'za and much better brews.

This is another bar/pizza shop in Burlington! I can see 4 pizza places from one corner of Church street. This one has the best beer selection of the 4 but that is saying to to much. It did have Allagash white, switchback blue and red, and Brooklyn lager. As well as some other locals on tap. The Mixed drinks are soooo pricey and the beers are not cheep by any means. It is a place on the rise and has a good mix of locals and college kids. Good place to watch the game at but the food is probably the worst of the 4 pizza places on the block. People do like going for the all you can eat pizza and wings for 8$ or so. I haven't done that deal in a few years so i am not sure if that price is up to date. The staff is getting better as well and they are starting to know there beers! I went to school with a new bartender there and when i asked him what was the best beer on tap he said the Switchback red but the Allagash was a close second. I might have to agree. Three years ago the people working there only cared about PBR tall boys with a shoot dropped in the ripped open can top. Hopefully more good beer to come. They really need to work on their food though.

went there alot when I was in school there.
some of my friends worked there, the food is pretty bad and the pizza sucks and is so middle of the road, its also very exspensive.
the beer is pretty reasonable, they always have switchback on ( a beer that as far as I know doesnt leave burlington)
they have about 20 taps, probably about 16 micros and 3 macros
no evidince of belgians, an ecclectic tap selection... with... suprise suprise alot of vermont beers, but this place will not just have magic # 9, they are not afraid to put up seasonals and new and bizare beers
worth checking out, but dont go hungry.. your wallet and and stomach will thank you
ps bring 2 forms of id, they tend to harrass people with out of state ID's
pps go to flatbread too..at all costs, much better than manhatten

Stopped by here last Weds. on my way back from a biz trip to Montreal. Got there about 6ish, so not too busy. Some outdoor seating. Upon entering fairly bar is on right side, after some tables in the front of the place. More seating to the left of the bar. Typical college pizza joint motif with some TVs, including projection screen over the bar. The Sox/Yanks game was on. In the rear was a pool table and a couple of vid games.
On to the beer. 20 draught lines. 15 running that night were:
Bud, Bud Lite
Otter Creek Manhattan Ale (private label)
Sierra Nevada Pale
Shipyard Old Thumper
Pabst Blue Ribbon
Trout River Red
Rock Art Ridge Runner
Magic Hat #9 & Circus Boy
Labatt Blue (eh?)
Shed Mountain Ale
I had two beers there, Shed Mountain Ale & Trout River Red. The 3 bartenders knew their stuff.
Didn't have any food.
Overall a good place.

this place was hoping on a saturday night, it was fun lots of freindly people and plenty of good beers on tap, all the locals and a few other surprises. had a few pints and ordered a pizza, wich didnt take long consodering how busy it was. there pizza was one of the best i have ever had, i been looking for a place that balances that grease and cheese just right. service was good again it was real busy. may be better when less crowded. overall it was a good experience would definatly go back again.

Oh Manhattan Pizza, how I long to be in covered with your grease and sauce again. Seriously Vermont is an oxymoron of the food world - more cheese than they know what to do with, several world class cooking schools, and no edible pizza to speak of (sorry Ken's, Hoagies, et all) except of course for Manhattan Pizza. These guys are like a little island oasis in the middle of downtown Burlington and they make fresh, delicious (greasy, oh yes) pizza to order, and some pretty unassuming, yet magnificent grinders, wings, cheese curds, etc. The beer selection is pretty damned awesome too, mostly local micro brews, and then the odd Newcastle, or Double Diamond stick to help even things out. Last time I was in there (last April) they were a little Harpoon heavy on draught, but they usually follow the rules and support local beer. So worth the visit, the pizza cannot be denied - note: don't be a dumby, avoid single slices and order a fresh pie.

Very unassuming and unpretentious beer bar with and impressive local selection.
Had the widest selection of local vermont beers on tap and was a good first stop in Burlington to get an idea of what the towns beer scene was all about.
Had Rock Art, Trout River, Shed and Longtrail all on tap as well as some imports and out of state beers.
Bartender was very friendly and told us about other bars and breweries to check out.
Did not intend to go in for food, just a beer but the Pizza was too seductive to resist.
One of the best Pizza and Beer joints I've been to.

A nice pizza place on main street. Solid atmosphere, a bit divey, but it works. Quality of the brews and pizza aer solid as well. Service was friendly, fast, and good. Selection is good with 20 taps, at least 10 local VT micros, some imports, other micros, and retro beers. Pizza here is good and cheap and the prices are reasonable on food, but beers that are not on special are a bit pricey compared to other places in town. Still a nice place to grab a slice and some local beer. Freshness counts here as well. Me likey.

A great pizza place right on main street in Burlington. Shed, 2 Rock Art, Magic Hat, Otter Creek, 3 Long Trail, Trout River, Dogfish, Sparten, Sierra Nevada, Bass, Guiness, Molsen, Labatt, Bud, Bud light are the tap handles I remember off the top of my head... Food and service are solid. Love to hit this place up when Shed goes on special.
Update: so great to see Rock Art Midnight Madness on tap. A great reason to hit the Pizza joint any night. Tuesdays are all you can eat nights. Solid draft selection.
