10oz pour into GLBC tulip glass at the West 25th Cleveland brewery.
Thin, white head, minimal lacing, cloudy, orange-honey elixir.
Nice, full fruit aroma of peaches and tangerines.
Mild bitterness, fruit, yeast with the mild hops up front. Really smooth overall without any alcohol prescence. Very drinkable.
I really enjoyed this Belgian triple. It has a subtle tone and the alcohol is very subdued. Reminds me of their Anniversary Belgian Triple.

Served on tap in a 10 oz. glass at the Great Lakes Brewing Co. Pub (basement level - must see), 2516 Market Ave. Cleveland, OH 44113.
A - A bright golden-straw color with slight head and minimal lacing.
N- Bright and floral, typical of the style, with Britanomices inherent.
T- Piquant, fruity and slightly sour at the same time. Very true to the style, but with a bit of a bitter finish, and not in a hoppy way. It posesses a bit less of the sweet, bubblegum nose and flavor characteristic of many Belgian Tripels.
M - Highly palatable, and easy to drink, despite the slightly bitter finish noted above. - It masks the 9.5% ABV very well.
O- While not the greatest American brewed, Belgian style Tripel I have sampled, it is very enjoyable to drink and a fair representation of the genre, leaning slightly to the sour/lambic style. According to the wait-staff, this is a pub-only brew; therefore I do recommend it if you have the opportunity.

Served on tap into a tulip glass at the brewpub
A- Poured a very bright and hazy golden orange (looks like orange juice) with frothy head that left tons of splashy lace
S- Powerful Belgian yeast and citrus aroma, some spicy notes
T- Huge yeast presence, citrus, candied sugars, and alcohol. Very sweet, some spice notes, but sweetness is very prominent.
M- Soft on the palate on the front end, prickly carbonation on the middle of the tongue, and kind of syrupy on the finish. Kind of boozy, alcohol warming, and some burn on the finish. Kind of chalky texture to the beer too.
O- Tripels are a favorite style of mine and Great Lakes is a favorite brewery of mine. The alcohol presence was a little strong in this one and the taste was a little one dimensional and unbalanced compared to other tripels. Not a bad beer, but I had high expectations for a tripel from Great Lakes. Also a little pricey at $7 a glass.

On tap at Great Lakes...
A- Pours a hazy golden orange color. One finger white head shows good retention. Long streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.
S- There is a huge amount of banana and corriander in the front of the aroma with hints of clove and peppercorn. Rock candi sugar and more orange comes through in the middle of the aroma. Belgian yeast dominates the ending of the nose.
T- There is a nice sweetness to the front of the beer. Pale malts and a rock candi sugary sweetness. Next comes the hints of the Belgian yeast...clove and banana most of all. Peppercorn and corriander do make appearances next in the overall flavor. The alcohol makes a sweet warming ending on this beer. Strong in flavor and to the point yet a little more complex at times.
M- Medium-heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Belgian yeat, peppercorn, and clove are left on the palate. Aftertaste is banana, clove, warming alcohol, and pale malts in the background. Flavors were very well balanced and put together well. No off flavors were present when I was drinking this beer. Medium alcohol drying on the palate.
D- This beer was a nice surprise for sure. Great Lakes makes good beer but this one is more of a standout than the rest of the beers I have had from them. The higher ABV does limit the drinking on this but a nice sipper to have during dinner at the brewpub.

I wonder if this is the Anniversary triple from a few years back repackaged or rebranded? At any rate, GLBC said it was a new brewpub exclusive and that's good enough for me.
The beer looks great in the glass - it's a cloudy orange color with some brown edges. The nice white head has great retention. A nice looking tripel and a good start for this beer tasting experience.
The smell is primarily comprised of yeasty esters which provide some banana and coriander notes, and a bit of clove and pepper as well. Some orange and Belgian candy sugar are there as well. I guess this could be a touch more expressive, but it is certainly still a nice smelling Belgian Yeast strain.
So, the name of the beer is a reference to Christmas Story, the movie filmed in Cleveland in the 80's. The movie was funny, but this beer is serious business. Some Belgian candi sugar and some Belgian pale malt touches set the stange. The yeast adds fruity depth and spices, most notably corriander, orange, banana and white pepper. A touch of tartness on the end is fleeting, replaced by sweetness. Some banana and orange linger. What a great beer. I know GLBC normally brews to style and sometimes it helps and sometimes it hurts. This was a huge win!
The mouthfeel is slightly sticky and syrupy. Lower carbonation is appropriate for the style but some bubbles sneak in from time to time. The beer is medium bodied overall. Some slight lingering booze rears its head, but is well concealed for thee most part. This was very drinkable for the style and for the 9% ABV. An enjoyable American take on the belgian style. Kudos, GLBC. Don't shoot your eyes out!
