I've never been a big fan of the GL lagers to-style, but they're always well-made and enjoyable, so when I was in the mood for something light and saw this, thought I'd give it a go.

12 ounce bottle six pack, best by 8/27/12 clearly stamped on the label, $10.

A -- Clear, light gold color with a dense white head.

S -- DMS and light, spicy hops.

T -- Sort of a dry graininess up front with bitter, herbal hops in the middle and finishing with a mellow breadiness. There is some light citrus character in the aftertaste and the hop bitterness lingers to the end.

M -- Smooth to crisp mouthfeel with a dry finish and medium light body.

O -- A pretty standard micro-brewed Pilsner -- which is to say much better than any macro-brewed light lager, but lacking in a good Pilsner malt base that would round things out nicer. The dryness can become palate-fatiguing and a touch of sweeter malts would help that.

Looking at the grain bill from GL and I'm pretty surprised to see that there is no Pils malt listed at all. A little odd for a style originating from the malt itself.

Appearance: Excellent carbonation with very good lacing. Straw yellow.

Smell: Very neutral. A bit of lemon

Taste/Mouthfeel: Sour lemon. Extremely bitter lemon rind really overwhelms here. Crisp mouthfeel that works well with bitterness.

Overall Drinkability: Pretty eh for Great Lakes.

12oz bottle into a tulip. best by 8/28/13

Pours a light golden color with a half inch white head. Smell is crisp and refreshing. Earthy and light citrus. Good example of the style. Taste has a bit more hops than a traditional pils, but i'm not complaining. Refreshing and easy to drink. Simple beer but enjoyable. Lighter side of medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall a good summer beer that would be hard to dislike for anyone who likes beer. Wont be anyones favorite but hey, it's a pils!

Poured The Wright Pils into a Belgian Tulip.

A - Pours a transparent golden color with two fingers of white head.

S - Getting a light citrus, faint hops, very light bread qualities. Some sourness in their as well.

T - Some more fresh baked bread flavor in there. Sour, almost skunkiness in there too. This fits in there pretty nicely. Light hop flavor to balance things out.

M - Smooth beer, a little heavier than expected for a Pils. Medium carbonation.

O - A decent Czech Pilsener, hits all the notes. Great Lakes again does a good job.
Recommended! Cheers!
