sitting in the cellar for about a year, crummy weather night = beer testing

eyes...
good 2 fingers of head rise on an average pour, slightly off white, slightly audible crackling head, orange tone with some amber highlights, lots of carbonation racing towards the north, as the head calms down the bubbles in the head become quite uniform mini marbles of carbo bliss, the crackling has now subsided and the head retains quite nicely, lacing is decent, a nice looking brew.

nose...
aged sweet straw (no barnyard tones), sort of like corn bread or some sort, it has a dryness to the odor, and the sweetness rides on this, almost like how champagne smells but not as punchy, faint herbal notes are skulking about the back, pretty good.

taste etc...
on the initial sip there is almost nothing.. until the after taste, and then it all flows in, there is a muted caramel flavor with lots of yeasty malt and sweetness that almost wants to go over the edge but doesn't. in the end the sweetness fades and a mild bitterness balances this out as well as an interesting sour note that leaves you wanting a touch more (perhaps this is the note that prevents this from becoming mouth puckeringly sweet), this stuff is smooth and the carbonation (which is quite active) is married very well here to the overall feel, this beer seems simple but really has a nice variety of layers for such an easy drinker.

verdict?
tasty, definitely worth trying, something very different, not as yeasty as some kellers, perhaps more tame ? or more refined ? that's up to you.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do I go to Beer Advocate, stay thirsty my acquaintances...

This is a nice beer for a night cap. It has the nutrients, supposedly, needed for a good night's sleep and it tastes good.

Looks like a cloudy caramel liqueur with a medium sized white head. Foam dies down to a thin collar, minimal lacing. Swirling produces a bit of fizz but not much foam.

Fruity aroma. Orchards. Light toasted bread dough. Some light spice

Taste is sweet and more of an apple fruit. Malt is light but present to give it a nice body. It has a bit of zest to it, can't quite place it. Maybe some Noble hops here and there? Lack of body hints at low carbonation, but this has a nice fizz on it. Still, the lingering of film doesn't quite sit right with me.
Overall a good beer. Good for the night. I'd say a good apple pie would pair well here

500ml bottle poured into my Southern Tier glass. Darker amber in color with a thin white head barely covering the top. Nice retention and decent lacing.

Aroma has crisp fruits mixing with some sweeter caramel. It's got some grainy, bready notes to it as well. Pretty clean, crisp and smooth aroma overall.

The taste follows through with a mix of light, crisp fruits and sweeter caramel and toffee notes. It's crisp in the finish and the light fruit flavors linger. Nicely balanced and very flavorful beer of the style.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being a little above average. Overall, it was a very solid beer of the style. Very clean, crisp and flavorful.

Had this on tap in a half liter marzen glass. Served with a inch of off white head that fades but laces. Overall taste is malty, caramel sweet breadiness with smooth earthy hops. Reminds me a of a marzen and definitely worth checking out if you like old style german lagers.

A - Pours with a small head of off white foam on top of an amber-brown body with light haze. The head settles at a moderate pace but leaves little lace on the glass.

S - A lightly fruity aroma with some toffee and red apple notes.

T - Lots of bread and toffee up front with red apple yeast notes. Some caramel and more apple in the middle as well as a bit of spice in the finish.

M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Oddly, this seems more like an English winter warmer than a German beer. Even so, it is quite pleasant, if not overly complex, and it is certainly drinkable enough.

A - Honey amber, medium head. nice ring of lacing that holds up through the whole beer.

S - Sweet crisp nose with a ton of sweet honey. Malty and light, some light molasses and hints of sugary covered dates. Sugar cookies and faint grain.

T - Chewy malt, mildly bitter grains. Light and crisp, a very nice balance between sweet/bitter.

M - Light bodied, perfectly carbonated, mildly viscosity. A bit chewy and semi dry. Very drinkable.

O - Great balance and smooth flavors, an enjoyable German style celebratory beer.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours out a very hazed brownish-amber color with a fizzle for a head that leaves behind no lacing at all. Lighter side of medium body and carbonation levels, powdery, chalky finish.

Smells... like a musty yeast bomb. Which, after a bit of internet research, turns out to be true to style. There is a dollop of deeply earthy hopping on top of that with a light side of herbal and bready tones, present in both the nose and in the flavor, which is reminiscent of a toasted bready marzen with crazy amplified yeastiness.

The relative richness of the flavor presents an intriguing contrast with the lightness of the body and the texture of the beer. It also dries out significantly in the finish relative to the sweetness levels of the midsip. This brew has certainly stoked my interest in sampling more Kellers in the future.

Poured from a half liter bottle into a nonic tumbler- pours an hazy copper color with less than a finger of creamy white head, modest retention and no lacing.

Smells like a keller or marzen to me- caramel, rich roasted malts, a little grassy noble hops, some yeast. Appealing.

Taste is also quite nice- sort of blooms outwards as it progresses across the palate. Starts of low key with a little grain at the tip of the tongue, then the caramel sweeps over the mid-palate with the roasted malts, catches a little kick of noble hops towards the end and finishes with the caramel coming through nicely.

Mouthfeel is pretty nice- medium bodied, somewhat delayed moderate carbonation (at first it feels smooth and then becomes a little prickly). This is a nice one- I would certainly get it again and I imagine that it would go very nicely with some pumpkin pastry/cake of some variety.

Not your average Octoberfest but very drinkable regardless. The smell is almost of an auld ale nature, with hints of smokiness. Yet the taste is very different: easy to drink, smooth, balanced, malty. You know you've had a pretty good sized beer when you're done. Worth trying.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a slightly cloudy medium coppery amber with an active half finger off-white head that dissipates slowle to a thin film which has good retention, no lacing. Pleasant aroma of caramel malt, light stone fruit, and aromatic herbs. Flavor of toasted and bready malts, mild dark fruit, somewhat sweet. Finishes with mild malt, apples and light hops. A quite nice flavor progression and great flavor combination. Medium bodied. First European example of this style; glad to have tried it and looking forward to drinking this again.

Very good beer! Poured this at a good temperature with a large, thick, foamy, cream-colored head that slowly settles and a little lace. Color is an almost clear, honey amber with some bubble trails. Aroma is a fresh, volatile mix of malt, hop, toffee, yeast, a little fruit. Flavor's like nose, on the dry side, with a little residual fruitiness; carbonic tang and yeast/hop bitter are all up front and work well together. Body is excellent - has a softness that is checked by great carbonation. Finish is like flavor, of average length, and is super drinkable. Could drink the hell outta this one.
