Tall frothy head lays atop fluid sparkling with carbonation, reminiscent of an orange sunset...
Aromas of wheat, belgo yeast, and citrus come off the top. Sweetness hits the palate, followed abrubtly by bitter hops and the spice of booze, citrus fruits dominate. Body is medium built and contrasted with furious champagne like bubbles.

Overall this beer gives me a relief from the local Okinawan fare, Orion, Kirin< etc... I appreciate the bitter with the sweet. Nice, tripel I recommend it.

Bottle 33cl at home
Poured into a Palm glass.

A: Large top which lasts for a normal time. The color is yellow with a brown tint, I noticed the huge amount of bubbles..
S: Smells of apple, pear and a bit dry..
T: Combination of apple and pear, the pear overwhelms the apple. Ends a bit dry with some sweetness.
M: Smooth, mix of the sweetness and smoothness + bubbles is good in balance
O: Good beer, the smell and taste got apple and pear and nothing else, so you taste the fruits..
Its a nice combination of fruits and dryness

I stopped into Cafe 't Pothuiske in Maastricht on 04Oct12 after touring some WWII battlefields near Nijmegen. After a quick Delerium Tremens, I settled in with a 0.33l bottle of Tongerlo (€4.10) for round two.

My very top-shelf bartender poured most of the bottle into a small chalice, with the remaining yeasties drawn into a little shot glass. Nice touch, Bro! I drained the yeasties first, getting my vitamin B fix with the spicy dregs! The main portion was a clear, light to medium golden hue. It had steady, slow carbo, and a long-lasting, creamy, white head. Lacing was A-1. Nose was a combo of bready/crackery malt and tropical fruits. The feel was pretty decent, with some light carbo roughness and a medium body.

Tasted of light crackery malts with mild sweetness. Pear, green apple, honeydew, and honey itself hit the palate. Had minimal bitterness, witha smidge of spicyness at the finish. Quite nice! Had a couple more on subsequent visits, and brought a bottle home, too. Zum Wohl!!

Tongerlo Tripel has a great label, a nice bottle and is certainly drinkable. A closer look learns that something is missing. The absence of funk?

L: good top but not very special, clear yellow/gold Amstel-colour;
S: round, creamy, pear;
T: pear, yeast, a bit too sweet;
M: bite is too thin;
O: drinkable? Yes. Will I drink it? Yes. Will I buy it? No, I will pick up something more special.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2011 (bottled April 2010), so it's a bit out of date. Purchased from a supermarket during a trip to Belgium in Sept 2010.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A hazy golden colour with fine yeast sediment and plentiful carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; it eventually reduces to a thick surface layer. Aroma of fruity yeast esters, especially banana, and hints of spice and marzipan. Dry and slightly sweet, with a background whiff of booze.

Tastes of fruity yeast esters and alcohol. Notes of bananas and sugar, with faint hints of almonds and spice. A warming, boozy flavour hits the back of the throat - solventy and astringent. Mouthfeel is smooth and full-bodied, with tingly carbonation. Dries the palate. Aftertaste of fruity yeast esters.

A run-of-the-mill tripel - decent but not outstanding. Smooth and drinkable, but nothing in the flavour grabs your attention. Doesn't seem to have suffered excessively despite the age of the bottle. Quite boozy and a bit hot. Nothing to go out of your way for.

Picked up a four pack of 33 cl bottles from the NEX in Spain poured into my affligem chalice where I saw about one inch of white head and noticed a cloudy yellow body with some sediment. Smell is atypical of a Belgian blonde; not overly ambitious just can smell a fruity yeasty bread like aroma. Taste is good, not too sweet the hops have a place with a pear tartness and some mild yeast flavor. The body is medium with a bit of carbonation fizz hitting the throat. Overall a decent triple blond; will drink at least three more times but have a few better options available

Light blond color, slightly cloudy. The nose is far from exciting and offers little flavor. The mouth is very syrupy, light hints of melon acid very subtle, and far from appetizing. Presence of alcohol in the throat too intrusive in that it prevents other flavors - if there are other flavors - to develop. Triple very weak compared to its glorious sisters.

Part of a gift set with Beer and Glass.
.75L Bottle served in Prior Tulip Glass

A: Bright straw color with a thick head with course bubbles.

S: Slightly hoppy and a little malt. Similar to a German Keller beer.

T: Mildly malty with a touch of honey; balances to slightly bitter aftertaste.

M: Fairly carbonated. Medium body, easily drinkable beer. Alcohol is easily masked.

D: Very drinkable beer. The .75L bottle is too much for one person at 9% alcohol.

Abbaye beer, 33 cl bottle.
Flavoured with Saaz hops.

Very curious.
Looks golden, with a huge head, good carbonation.

Smell very fresh. Malts, yeast, and some grassy and herbal notes.
Taste is similar. Bittersweet, with bitterness as dominant character.
Aftertaste is pretty long bitterness too. Alcohol is present, but most of is it well covered by the flavour.
Overall, i'm not disappointed. The Saaz seems to have enough power to flavour a tripel of 9%.

A: pretty big, creamy rather firm head on this one that collapses more than it disappears, lovely sight really nice hazy yellow colour
The instructions on the bottle seem kind of retarded, it says in Dutch & French but not in English "Tip: either pour the yeast into the glass or drink it separately." Is there a third way to do it or?
S: primarily Saez hops, some yeast, bready, floral element, smell is not that strong
T: floral, bitter hops, not too overt but definitely present, bready yeast, some banana/fruit & spice
M: slick, medium bodied, decent (somewhat above average, towards high) carbonation, I am thinking more of a good Belgian Strong Pale Ale rather than a tripel
D: pretty high, seems sesionable whilst it probably shouldn't be, definetly a nice beer, enjoyed it

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 9%. Fairly clear yellow colour, huge white head. Strong sweetish aroma of ripe bananas, coriander and Belgian ale yeast. The flavour is spicy and rather sweet, okay but not really remarkable. A hint of anise in the aftertaste.

A: extremely carbonated. fluffy uneven head. carbonation rushing to the top like I've never seen. slightly dull gold.

S: alcohol very apparent, yeast and therefore bready.

T: alcohol is quite forward, however fairly well blended. otherwise difficult to describe. soft and medium bodied. slightly yeasty

M: Soft but mutely astringent

D: Not bad, but the flavor doesn't stand out. inoffensive but uninteresting.

Extra points for the presentation: It is served in the bottle with two glasses: one the traditional stemware, the other a shot glass--this is for the yeast sediment. I poured the larger glass first, moderating the head. I was impressed to see it last as well as coat the glass with a blanket of fine bubbles. The main glass was nearly clear and was golden in color. The shot glass was definitively whiter.

The aroma was mild. Despite being a trippel, it was not notably alcoholic to the nose. There was also little hop. This smelled like a pale amber beer.

The flavor was nutty with a strong alcohol bite given the nose. The swallow featured an acidic citrus bite. The finish has a lot of pepper to it, but it is short lived. The body was thinner than most trippels, but the carbonation was very good.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 15 Nov 2010, reviewed 06 Aug 2010. This was part of a four pack bought in Belgium and brought home to review at leasure.

Poured slowly into a Corsendonk stemmed tulip: Light amber, even light orange in colour, with a good white head on top. Plenty of carbonisation showing on the sides of the glass at first. The brew had a slight haze to it.

Very floral, spiced and sweet country garden type aroma.

The initial taste was of sugared water (with alcohol), a headache in the making! I tried to find flavours or a taste, some yeasty hints could be found within the sweetness, but not much else.

If I have had a sweeter, less flavoursome Belgian Tripel in my life I can't remember it.

Sorry to say the smell is the best part of this beer. I had to get some brown bread and Pié d'Angloys soft French cheese to help me finish the beer.

Drank this tripel during a game of Colonists of Catan. Poured in a La Trappe chalice it is a pity that the head disappeared very fast. This makes the beer less 'good looking'. That's why i have to rate it with a 2. The next bottle i got had the same problem.

The smell is as a triple should be. The yeast is good noticable together with some spices and citrus. For the rest a very nice triple but the head should be better looked after.

Poured with a nice large, white, foamy, frothy, fluffy hefad and light frothy lace. Head mostly disappeared within minutes. Color is a clear amber. Aroma is classic Belgian Triple ale: yeasty, malty, hoppy, candy sugar vinieous. Flavor is similar and with the standard effect of sweetness, bitterness stand out more. Alcohol is pronounced. Good beer. Nothing great. Good body and carbonation. Like many other Triples. Could be a session for slow drinking.
