Unlike the other Elephant Carlsbad beer, this one is a distincly different appearance. First, the can itself is big and badass design wise. Like a Foster's oil can, but w/ better graphics. Red and light beige appearance (usually reserved for head) that leaves and even lighter beige head on it, very flimsy and small, 1/8" at best, no retention, no lacing.
The aroma wasn't scottish or red styled malts at all. It was just a bunch of rubbing alcohol solvency.
The taste was pretty bitter actually, I guess they use some high alpha acid hops combined with a very thin body and an alcohol presence that seems well above five and a half. This tastes just as hot, if not more, than the 8% elephant in the green bottle! If you can get past the lack of a malt body that gives way to explicit bitterness, you might find an unsweetened caramel note in there. Like, one of them. Mild nutty accoutrement.
Ultimately, this beers biggest failing/liability was its inability to cover up the alcohol.
I figured it was about time for a retired beer review to get entered. Been awhile.

As much as I belittle the lager/pilsner line, this one of those not so popular beers that really hits the B spot on these 112 degree days, but its getting hard to find as most places have stopped carrying it, mores the pity.
The beer disassociates itself from the can a brownish red color with a portly head that is semi-creamy in texture and a winsome light tan color, with the residual lace a thin sheet to cover the glass. Nose is the archetypal lager sweet malt that is crisp and fresh, start is sweet with a decent malt presents and the top light to moderate in feel. Finish is prickly in its acidity, the hops apropos to the style, quite dry and long lasting aftertaste.

On tap at EJs Baden tavern. Tapped a copper-red color with a thin offwhite cap that did not last and went to a lace that stayed the drink. Low effervescence. Aromas of caramel-toffee sweetness. Started a bit thin with lots of sweet tastes and some nuttyness with undetectatable hop accents. Finished thin, sweet and clean. Im glad I was thirsty (just got off a motorcycle on a humid 95% day)otherwise I may have been tempted to leave this sweet drink on the bar and order a Pilsner.Too sweet for me or for any style of dark lager.

Very drinkable, mild red lager packaged in an oil can. Possibly an Americanized (Canadianized?) version of Carlsberg's Elephant Bock.
This is one of my standard "crap beers," the ones that you're ashamed to admit you enjoy (hey, we can't drink belgians all the time). It's cheap, easy to stomach, tastes decent and has a cool elephant head on the label.

Wow, my brother and I bought this because the bottle looked cool, it said imported and it wasn't too expensive. What we did not know is that this is malt liquor masquerading as a real beer.
Harsh, that is all I can say about this beer. The alcohol taste is so overpowering and the beer so uncharacteristic that you might as well drink vodka. It will get you where you want to go with less pain. I tried to think of some good flavor note to type but I really cannot think of any.
Buyer beware.

You can taste the alcohol in this malt liquor. It has a small crap beer head with a bad taste.
The taste was a sweet caramel malty flavor if you can get through the alcohol flavoring.
Would not recomend this one unless you are on a dare!

I like the dark red color in my glass. When poured it leaves a nice white head that surprisingly stayed for awhile. It's lace stayed on the sides very nice. The aroma is sort of malty and alcohol esk. It's taste was kind of smooth and a slight sweet malt, hops and molassas or caramel. You can taste the alochol in this beer which is kind of a turn off unless you like that kind of brew.

Nice red color. Decent off white head.
Taste is quite malty, lots of caramel notes, slightly rich. Slight alc. in the aftertaste.
An easy beer in terms of taste, not overly complex by any means, but tastes good. I nice beer. Compliments BBQ food rather well.

Has a slight veggie/green smell with very little flavor. Very mild flavor with trace of sweet malt is barely enticed out by some foods. Slightly fizzy.

Dark red color with a prominent off white head that lingers, quite decent lace. Malty aroma with alcohol notes. Taste is very smooth with lots of slightly sweet malt flavor, caramel, and mild bitter hops, strong alcohol taste in the otherwise clean finish. Brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Carlsberg A/S. Package reviewed was 750ml can.
