Had occasion to stop by here a week or so back. I stopped in with the intention of buying a bottle of Panil, but ended up dropping close to $100 on some other goodies there.
This has to be one of the odder wine/beer/liquor stores I've ever come across. The place is out in the middle of nowhere, just off the interstate in Elkton (right at the border of Maryland and Deleware). The whole area looks kind of run down and dumpy, and State Line (at least from the outside) doesn't inspire much confidence either. Until you walk in.
This place has an excellent selection of just about everything (beer, wine, liquor) and is very good size. It appears they have a separate area for craft brew and imports, and I have to say they have a particularly outstanding selection of imports.
The folks there were quite friendly and helpful, and it was apparent that they are used to assisting beer geeks like myself. The place had an altogether excellent vibe to it. Prices seem reasonable, and if you join their "club," you get an additional 10% discount on bombers and a 5% discount on 6 packs. Prices are not all that high to begin with (they were pretty comparable to prices at Well's, for instance), so this ends up being a pretty good deal. There is no charge to join this club, and if you fill out the paperwork at the store (takes about a minute - or you can fill it out online and just mail it or bring it in), you get the discount right there on the spot.
The only problem with State Line, at least for me, is that it's about an hour drive from where I live in Baltimore. Also, you have to pay the stupid Maryland Interstate $5 toll just before you arrive in Elkton, which is another annoyance (and pretty much wipes out whatever savings you might get as a result of the club discount).
It's a pity this place is not closer to Baltimore. It would quickly become my beer store of choice for pretty much all purchases. Oh well.
Update from 1/1/09.
A lot of time has gone by, and I've frequented many outstanding liquor stores throughout the country. Seen from that perspective, I feel as if I have to upgrade my score. The only place I've visited that comes remotely close to the selection at State Line is John's Market in Portland. John's has a slightly better selection of craft brew then State Line, but State Line is the winner when it comes to Imports and service. This is as close to perfection as any place I've ever been to. Plus, I've figured out how to avoid the stuipid $5 toll.
Yes, it really is that good.

Making this my new stop every time I ride into Philly. Best selection I've ever seen at a bottle shop, and the coolest part is you can take singles out of any package and buy them alone. If they distribute it in Maryland you can find it here.
The growler selection is awesome and cheap, 5 dollars for a 64 oz growler and I filled it with old Rasputin for 10 dollars.
Staff was super attentive and helpful. I asked if they had more of a certain item and a staff member came back 1 minute later with what I wanted no hesitation.

This place is awesome! They have an amazing selection of craft brews as well as imports. The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you get inside you are blown away. Granted anything is an upgrade from the stores in DE, because of distribution, but this place is my favorite. They have 20 taps to fill your growlers. The service is top notch and all the employees are eager to help you, if you need it. I highly recommend making a trip to State Line. They also have their inventory on their website and typically it is very accurate, if a price is listed for an item, that generally means they have it in stock.

Do not judge this book by it’s cover. Looks like your typical local liquor store from the outside, but inside this place is a gem. The selection is huge. Beer is somewhat organized by country. Has a great selection of American craft breweries and has the best import selection I’ve seen. Lots of meads as well if that is your thing. I knew what I was looking for, but they had a lot of people on staff and I was asked several times if I needed any help. The staff was very friendly and are happy to just talk beer if they aren’t too busy. Prices are reasonable and the free discount club takes an extra 10-15% off of everything as a great bonus. Definitely a bottle shop I wish I had in my backyard. I try to make the 2 1/2-3 hour round trip down from Central PA at least 2 or 3 times a year.

Robert, you have quite a place. My one friend took me here because he was shopping for kegs and other essential items that only State Line can provide at a steal. I highly recommend visiting this venue if you have an opportunity to do so. You can explore this place for a couple of hours and you still won't uncover everything.
Thanks goes out to Robert and the staff for such a great experience.

From the road, you would never know what a gem this place is. Looks like a small warehouse, but when you walk in you are greated by coolers, a domestic craft section and a huge import craft section. If you are into import crafts, their selection is tough to top. The domestic craft section is solid and has a pretty good local selection as well. The staff is knowledgable and is willing to reserve or order something you may be looking for. The e-mail list provides a discount that makes the prices very affordable. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Wow! All I can say is this place blew me away compared to what I've seen so far.
A: Moments after I walked in a staff member was walking by and asked if I was looking for anything in particular or if I needed help. Everyone else seemed super friendly.
Q: LOTS of great quality stuff, shelves were pretty nicely organized and arranged.
S: Service was amazing. Two of the gentlemen that worked there were more than happy to answer my questions since it was my first time there. Super friendly, quick to answer my questions, and knew what they were talking about. Also had another guy ask if I was looking for something in particular and if he could help in any way. (Maybe it's because I'm a girl, or maybe it's because I looked lost due to the large selection - who knows? Haha.)
S: Really large selection with a lot of domestic and import beers. Found things that I've only seen at either World of Beer (in Arlington) or in Germany. I was impressed with the selection.
V: If you join the discount club you get a few bucks off. I got $5 off a sixer and a 750ml. Not much, but I was happy.
